Welcome back to Part 2 of 2 of the 2013 Akebono USDM Meet coverage. It seems like everyone thoroughly enjoyed the coverage yesterday so why not just pick up where we left off and keep the positive vibes going?..
One viewer said it best in the comments section of Part 1. If there is anything to say about the Akebono USDM cars, it is that they have a TON of character and though they are all similar chassis, they all seem to stand out in their own way. Not every build may be to your liking, but there’s no denying that these guys do their own thing to really set themselves apart from one another. It’s prove that a little creativity goes a long way and that “every Honda looks the same” is a completely inaccurate generalization of the Honda community. I love covering stuff like this from Japan and particularly from the Akebono guys because their cars just seem to stand on their own and don’t fit any particular generation or trend. Some of the mod choices are just plain odd to me but again, that is what gives them “character”. Another great thing about this event is that it also brought out a lot of other Hondas that weren’t a part of the Akebono USDM crew but still brought their own flavor to the meet. Some of these Hondas you just won’t see anywhere else because they don’t normally get the attention of the internet. I’m glad I can bring you guys these photos and I’m always grateful to have Shota Mori over there documenting these smaller events that most photographers wouldn’t attend. I’m lucky that Mori-san is so connected within the Japanese car community and can provide so much variety and depth with his photos…
I accidently used the wrong watermark on these photos but the photos are indeed shot by Shota Mori, and processed by me, StickyDilJoe…
In any case, let’s go ahead and get the rest of these photos out to the world. Thanks for looking and if you missed Part 1, I invite you to go back because you don’t want to miss out on any of this stuff…
Akebono USDM Meet 2013 Coverage…Part 1…
When we last left off, all the cars had lined-up by chassis-type and Shota was able to get a closer look at each individual vehicle…
Another view of the EF line-up at the Akebono USDM Meet…
Something about this EF that really brings me back to my highschool days when I first started getting into cars. Back then, this was a very common look with a clean EF slammed on some Acura hubs. Sometimes there would only be hub caps in the back to give it that FF “street/drag racer” look. I’m glad those days are gone but instead of the “two-hub-caps-in-the-back” look, now we’re stuck with the awful “knock-off-wheels-on-every-car” look…meh…haha…
Another comment that was really helpful yesterday was in response to my question as to who could identify these wheels on this EF. User “Hanzel” stated that they could possibly be Walter Wolf wheels and after some research, they do look to be those wheels…Pretty cool and thanks for that…
The red EF on Mugen M7s that you’ve seen a lot of here on The Chronicles as of late…
I’m not gonna lie, I think OZ Turbo wheels belong on Euro cars but they look pretty good on this EF…
CR-X from Akebono crew sitting on some Work Carving Head 40s with the spinner-type center caps that I will call “Batman Ninja Star-Looking Motherfuckers”…
I always enjoy seeing complete Mugen CR-X Pro.2s… just a beautiful aero kit for this chassis that will always stand the test of time…
Very detailed, highly-accessorized, Civic Wagon on rare, old school Pirelli mesh wheels…
Big fan of this white EF on red-faced GAB Sport wheels…One of my “bucket list” set of wheels that I hope to own one day, and to find a car to put them on…
Another white EF, this one on Drag wheels..
JDM Woody aka Mokkun’s EF…
The DA line-up at the Akebono USDM event…
DB sedan on white Enkei NT03…
Love the great condition of the paint and body on all of their cars. Whether they have been repainted or not, it’s good to see that people care…
One more look at the four red EFs in the EF line-up…
Curious as to how they came up with this name…
I’ve always really liked how clean this Prelude was. We just never really get a chance to see photos of it unless it’s at one of Type_K’s “Kday” events or other, smaller, events. It’s great that Shota appreciates it too and took multiple photos of it…
Two more of the Honda Integra SI-VTEC on old Volk CV-Pros…
One can never get enough of the classic EF8 CR-X chassis…
Another of the EF8 on Carving Head 40s…
The rear of the Mugen CR-X Pro.2…
The CR-X del Sol on Barramundi Design Snook wheels and the Civic coupe from yesterday on Panasport G7 C8Rs…
This decal seems fitting on these particular chassis’…
Two more of the EF on GABs… Notice the Hawaiian details…
The Chargespeed-equipped EF hatchback on Spoon Sports wheels…
Side profile of the Pro.2…
The money shot…
Nice to see American-made JDP aero parts on Japanese Honda builds…
Two EFs with very different intentions…
I remember Takeshi telling me a story about how the owner of this Prelude had 11 grand in cash in one of his cars during the huge Tsunami a couple years back and he actually swam out into the water to retrieve the cash. Pretty nutty story that I’m sure I left out some details of but if it’s true, holy shit, haha…
Loving this photo that Mori captured as the sun began to set on the event…
It wouldn’t be a 90s-styled Honda meet without a classic Nardi woodgrain wheel…
An EG Civic that I often see cruising with the Akebono group…
Last shot of the Wagon as it left the meet…
Mugen CR-X Pro.2 taking off…
One of the only non-Hondas that day, an turbocharged Eunos Roadster….
One of my favorite EM1 builds in the world…
Wish I could have seen more captures of this Civic Ferio…
This image currently sits as the banner image on The Chronicles Facebook page…
DA Integra from Slappyz…
The always classic OZ Racing Turbo wheel…
More of Mokkun’s EF since it always seems to be a crowd favorite…
Everybody loves gas station shots. Lower one features Mori’s CA Accord that always seems to be on a different set of wheels…
I’m glad that Mori and I have a similar eye and he went and captured more of the Hondas that I really liked…
I guess we can officially say that this is the EF on Walter Wolf wheels unless someone else wants to chime in with another idea…
One more gathering before the drive home…
…and a parting late evening shot of Mokkun’s slammed EF….
Thanks for looking and I hope you all enjoyed this look into the Akebono USDM world…
I love how when you see pics from these kind of meets the cars always seem to be so clean and Im never weeding through 100 plus pics of cars on rotas, drags, xxrs, etc to find the one car of the day on real wheels.
the white ef hb is not on mr5, but actually drag pros =)
Reblogged this on fkhan09 and commented:
