Wekfest Texas 2013 Coverage…Part 2…

Hopefully everyone got a chance to check out the first installment of the Wekfest Texas ’13 coverage. I haven’t even finished going through all the photos myself but I’m really trying to get all of this coverage out in a timely manner before the Christmas holiday. I know everyone is gonna be busy doing family stuff and what not so I don’t want these photos to get lost in the holiday shuffle because I worked really hard on them. As always, I tried to cover as much of it as I could but obviously, it is impossible to capture every single car at the event. Even if I had the time, I really wouldn’t want to anyway because it just gets really monotonous. I’d rather spend more time on the cars that catch my eye so that I can cover them in detail instead of just taking the same photo of every car there. If you don’t see your car, don’t take any offense to it either. I may have just missed it and it might have been a car that I would have spent some time looking over as well. It is just difficult to see everything when I’m walking back and forth from the venue to the set-up area. People stop me along the way to chat sometimes as well and I just forget whatever I am presently doing….

Like the WEKEAST event, I covered basically 80-90% of it in the morning. During the actual show itself, I’m busy working and judging the Honda/Acura Class so it doesn’t leave me a whole lot of time to do coverage. I think most people like to watch the set-up process anyway because you can see coverage everywhere on the web. Those who are attending the show as spectators or who can’t attend at all don’t get to see how the show comes together in the morning so it is just more interesting to see what happens behind-the-scenes. It makes for more dynamic photos in the end because honestly, you’re going to see a lot of the same shit over and over again if you look through enough coverage of any event. At least with behind-the-scenes coverage, you’ll get to see the cars in a different environment other than just parked inside the convention center. Perspective is important when offering coverage to the world and I think I provide a very unique eye of every event I attend. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here, right? Haha…

Wekfest Texas 2013 Coverage…Part 1…

With that out of the way, let’s continue onto Part 2….

One of my favorites from the show had to be Christian Santiago’s NSX on NSX-spec Regamaster EVOs…

Another angle of Joseph Clark-Molina’s BB4 Prelude also sitting on Desmond EVOs…

…as well as Tomsiik’s beautifully done AP2 S2000. Here you can get a look at his nicely tucked engine bay. No turbo or supercharger here, just a simple N/A set-up that’s basically stock other than the header and intake additions…

Rear shot of both Joezilla and Tom’s builds as they lined-up for roll-in…

Really like how these Advan RGs on this K-swapped Integra was done and how they were able to retain the original blue stripe around the inner lip. I absolutely hate it when people refinish these wheels and lose that line because that stripe is basically what makes the wheel…

A brand new Texas debut for Wekfest was this K-swapped Civic built by Javier Morales aka “Chops”. I noticed that it was missing quite a bit of final details and after talking with the owner, he told me that the car had literally been finished the night before the show….

It may not have been 100% complete but so far, it’s looking really good. The color with the Mercury Silver TE37s, along with the OEM CTR goodies and Bomex wing make for a nice package. When he gets everything together, it has potential to be a very good build…

I spent the entire morning just walking back and forth from the roll-in area and inside the venue. There was a lot going on so I wanted to make sure I was able to capture the vehicles that were in both areas to ensure that I didn’t miss out on anything. It was also cold as shit that morning so I went inside at times to just enjoy some coffee and to chill out at the Wekfest booth…

Dante Bui’s Top Secret/GReddy turbocharged ZF1 C-West CR-Z showed up to Wekfest Texas on a set of bronze Mugen MF10s. I prefer this look much more over his usual red wheels that he likes to use. As usual, he is always a strong competitor in the Honda Class category at Wekfest because of how thorough and detailed his build is…

I thought this Blitz supercharged Toyota Yaris was pretty badass. It ended up winning an award at the end of the day, probably in the Toyota Class, just like it did the year before…

People in Texas seemed to be really fond of this CR-X. A crowd formed around it at the Mayday Garage/Chronicles Pre-Meet and also at Wekfest. Overall, it’s a cool set-up. Nothing crazy or anything but man, I can’t help but think how good the car would look without such an aggressive wheel…

Scion FR-S from Low-Weezy-Ana on custom white/purple Leon Hardiritt Ordens…

First Molding stuff seems to be really popular in Texas. I mean, it’s popular everywhere these days thanks to ICB Matt but I was surprised to see so much of it at WFTX…

Kouki S14 that you also saw in Part 1 on polished Garson Deep Racing Ryujis…

Nice set-up on this blue B20 Civic hatchback. Good to see that people haven’t forgotten how to keep things simple and clean…

This Honda Odyssey looked pretty good on champagne-faced WED’s Kranze Bazreias….

Back outside in the set-up area, I spotted Jose Quiroga’s LS430 build…

Another guy that was a strong favorite to win an award at Wekfest TX was Fernando Huerta and his Mugen del Sol. He won 1st Place overall in the Honda Class last year and returned this year with some new mods to further the evolution of his build…

The most obvious addition, besides the black Volk TE37SL wheels, were the Kinsler individual throttle bodies…

Fernando’s engine bay has always looked really good but he went and got himself a new Rywire Mil-Spec harness to really finish-off his bay…

If you’ve been following his build over time, you’ll also notice that he added a set of Mugen S1R buckets…

I didn’t think the black SLs would work with his paint color, especially with the red spoke decal, but somehow, it just comes together…

This Audi S-coupe was looking great on Avant Garde wheels. It looked like it was already on display for the show but it was just parked there as the owner went to go get his paperwork for the show…

I absolutely loved how this NA2 NSX looked on bronze Mugen MF10s. It just had a timeless quality about it that reminded me a lot of DPK Jared’s S2000 build. Ironically enough, I found out that these are actually Jared’s old Mugen wheels…

The last time I saw this S2000 from Apokalypse was during the San Jose Wekfest event. It looks like it has seen some wear and tear since then but I definitely give it up to the guy for stepping outside the box with the custom front bumper and all the metal widebody enhancements….

I snapped this shot of Ken taking a break during the morning set-up and shot the shit with him for a little bit before going back inside the venue to see what was going on….

Once inside, I grabbed this shot of this custom blue-painted Lexus LS460 featuring a Mode Parfume Phantom Gamu-Regalia aero kit. You don’t see blue 460s very often since they don’t come in this light blue tone but I think it looks really good. It’s tough to pull off a custom color since the VIP culture has always been about white, black, or silver, but I dig how this Lexus makes it work. I believe this 460 used to be white as well so he really took a chance switching up the color of it…

Z33 with an Amuse-style Z34 front bumper and Luxury Abstract wheels…

One build that people on various social media outlets constantly reminded me to look at was Tricky Ricky’s EF Civic. I mean, I already knew about the car since I’ve seen photos of the build process but man, people really wanted me to look at it, haha…

The wheels are a little outrageous but the whole car is actually done very well, especially in the customization of the engine bay. The bay came out great and was one of the best engine bays from the WFTX event….

People who are all about stance love this car and the people who aren’t just sort of write it off, which I think is a little unjustified because I think the build itself other than the wheels should make you appreciate how a clean, simply-built Honda is put together. If it really bothers you that much, do me a favor and take two fingers and just sort of cover the wheels in the above photo… Better? Haha… The Work Ewings are a bit much for me but honestly, it’s a cool build…

Quite a bit of fender work was done to acommodate the Work Schwert SC5 wheels. I dig the custom front bumper as well…

One of the more popular cars from the Texas Wekfest show was this VW MK1 Golf. Interesting exhaust outlet design. Probably isn’t the most healthy thing to drive around in with the exhaust blowing right back into your face…
