Back Home But On The Road Again For Wekfest Seattle!…

The Japan content was great and it was amazing to be out there for a whole month, but I have to remind myself that I have a life here at home in California. After returning home, I received some unsettling news that our brand new Voltex wing for our GR86 might have been damaged by UPS!! So Kristian and I finally open-up the box to see what was happening inside. A few weeks after, I was right back on a plane once again as I headed to Seattle for the first major Wekfest event in the U.S. It was July 4th weekend so we made the most of it too, enjoying to sights and of course, the food! Unfortunately, I was so busy that I didn’t film nearly as much as I would have liked. Instead, I spent most of my time covering the cars that I liked the most from this year’s Seattle Wekfest show.

Wekfest Japan 2022 Coverage… Part 3…

Wekfest Japan 2022 Coverage… Part 3…

As I found myself going over the photos I shot from my visit to Top Fuel late last night, I decided that I would wake-up, eat lunch, and head to the office to get the final portion of this Wekfest Japan coverage up. I know for many of the Japanese, this coverage comes a little later than expected but hey, let’s just say we are saving the best for last, okay? Lol. As if these photos would be the finishing touches on yet another great year of this event. It’s a shame that I missed last year’s show, since it was the only one that I’ve missed since we started doing this back in 2014, but I’m glad a lot of the spectacular car builds returned from the 2021 event so I could see them…

Wekfest Japan 2022 Coverage… Part 2…

Welcome back everyone! It looks like there has been an influx of new viewers and visitors coming in from who knows where. For all the new people, thanks for visiting and I hope you stay awhile. I think this most recent Japan trip has brought a completely new audience to the site and to my socials, which is always cool to see. I never expect it, but I think people just like seeing car content from Japan. And being that I was probably one of the first foreigners to make my way back there since the world shut down, it makes perfect sense. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at some pretty impressive builds from the inside of the Port Messe venue in Nagoya. In year’s past, I think I didn’t shoot as much as I would inside due to the low-light but it’s one of the best-looking natural-light venues I’ve ever seen. I just had more fun shooting outside when a lot of the cars were in motion or not arranged so strategically. But this year, I made more of an effort to collect photos from inside because this is the final year Wekfest will be held here…

Wekfest Japan 2022 Coverage… Part 1…

Now that all the videos are done and 14 different episodes are up on YouTube, I can FINALLY get to the photos I shot while I was in Japan for a month! I love making videos but there’s nothing I enjoy more than shooting photos. I mean, photo content is a mainstay here on The Chronicles but I opted to release Vlog episodes first because I just don’t enjoy editing photos on my laptop. The colors are just so different than what I’m used to here at home on my desktop and I’m also spoiled with this giant monitor I have in my office. It just wouldn’t be doing my photography work justice if I did everything off of my laptop. Not many will notice but even the Vlogs are slightly different compared to the ones I create at home…

Wekfest Chicago 2022 Coverage… Part 2…

Wekfest Chicago 2022 Coverage… Part 2…

YES I AM STILL IN JAPAN. I am not sure when or if I will ever return. Just kidding of course because the government will definitely not be too keen about that and also, summer is coming and it is starting to get pretty hot here in Osaka. Now I know what people mean when they say the summers here are unbearable. It’s not even summer yet and the humidity is weighing on me like a heavy blanket. Do I wish I was home already? No, not really. There is still much to do here and much to see. I was fully prepared for the weather too because Yasu told me it was hot. All I brought were shorts thinking it’d be blazing but then I came to realize that Yasu probably doesn’t understand what the word “warm” means. It’s either hot or cold so his definition of hot probably just meant that it was warm. I soon discovered that when it’s hot, he just says that it is “fucking hot”.

Attention, attention, we are now interrupting what seems like regularly scheduled posts from Japan to give you some photos I’ve long been waiting to post. As most of you will have realized by now, I am currently in Osaka, Japan. I have so much content to upload as I have been making Vlog episodes basically real-time that I haven’t had much time to post anything else. Right before I left for Osaka, I had literally crammed two nights into completing these photos from Wekfest Chicago only to have them sit on my hard drive for another two weeks, lol. There’s just been so much cool shit happening on this sound of the pond that I haven’t been able to sit down to lay out this post. It’s a shame because I really enjoyed how these photos came out…

Why You Should Go To An Itasha-Style Car Show In Japan…

Why You Should Go To An Itasha-Style Car Show In Japan…

When I first landed in Osaka, Yasu mentioned that there was an Itasha-style car show happening just two days after Wekfest—at the exact same venue in Nagoya. He asked me if I wanted to go and I thought about it for a whole 2 seconds before I said “YES DEFINITELY”, lol. Why? Well, I’m here in this country that I haven’t been back to in two years so I want to experience as much as possible. More importantly, I want to see and experience NEW things that I haven’t had access to before. Itasha-style car builds are SUPER popular here in Japan and from the photos I’ve seen on Twitter, they always look to be of pretty high-quality as well. SO OF COURSE I WANTED TO GO. And if you watch this episode, you might want to go too! I think everyone experiencing car culture in Japan should try to go to one of these events at least once. Would I go back? Uhhhh….YES.

One Of The Main Reasons Why I Came Back…WEKFEST JAPAN

One Of The Main Reasons Why I Came Back…WEKFEST JAPAN

As many of you may have figured it out by now, one of the reasons why I returned to Japan in 2022 was to attend the Wekfest event in Nagoya. I’ve been to every single one since the very beginning, with the exception of last year’s due to the global “thing”. It felt weird not coming back, especially since it has long become a regular checkmark on my annual travel calendar. When I found out that there was an opportunity to return, I leaped at the opportunity. This year was a bit different for me. I decided I wanted to experience the show as a spectator and shoot the event for myself. There were so many great builds that I wished there was more time to cover it all, but I had to find a balance between vlogging and photography…so, here is the video portion of my adventures at this Wekfest event…

Finishing-Up A DC5 Integra For Wekfest Japan…

Finishing-Up A DC5 Integra For Wekfest Japan…

It’s that time of year again for both the Golden Week holiday and Wekfest Japan! Now that things are starting to get back to normal, everyone can get back to building cars and getting them buttoned-up for the Wekfest event in Nagoya! One of the main reasons I came back to Japan finally was to attend the Wekfest event but before that takes place, we spend an entire day wrapping-up a DC5 Integra build that has been in the works now for the past few months. Parts show-up just in time, good fun was had, we met Yasu’s mom, and more!…

Just A Regular Day For Car Guys In Japan…

Just A Regular Day For Car Guys In Japan…

As I begin to settle into my stay in Osaka, Japan, we get to work on some of the cars that are going to Wekfest Japan, spend a day-off in Osaka, and stop by a local car meet before getting back to work. This is just your average day in Japan for car enthusiasts like Yasu and myself. I promised I’d be doing more videos while I’m here and though they might not be daily, I’ll continue to upload as often as time permits while I’m here!…
