A couple months ago, I received a message on my Facebook Messenger asking me if I wanted to go to Jakarta, Indonesia to attend the Hot Import Nights event there. HIN was a big event series for me when I was younger but as the years went on, the show faded to obscurity and I don’t regularly attend their events anymore. The Indonesia event held the HIN name, but has been operating independently as a separate entity for over a decade now. They had asked me to go before, but I honestly didn’t have the time to go and Indonesia was a place that I had never been to previously, and that made me a little nervous. I usually travel with friends, which makes things a lot easier, but being invited to an event like this meant that I most likely would have to go by myself, especially considering the fact that the event was being held during the same week as our Thanksgiving holiday here at home in the U.S. There was some reluctancy on my part because I honestly just didn’t know a whole lot about the country. I had done some research in the past and looked up the HIN Indonesia events but other than that, I had no idea what to expect. I responded by telling them that I would go if I could bring Tiffanie Marie with me. It would be a good opportunity for us to explore a new place together and if they were willing to take care of our travel expenses, we would make the most of it. They obliged and even agreed to take us around Indonesia and eventually to Bali after the show. That sounded amazing and we were on our way. All I had to do at the show was pick three of my favorite builds from inside the show, and three from outside the show, which operated as a joint, smaller car show called “Jakmodfest”. It all sounded too good to be true so we were on our way…
Part 2 covers the rest of our weekend at HIN Jakarta 2016. The show runs two-days because it probably takes the judges that long to actually go through every car there and to complete the deliberation process. Since the judging is based on a points-system with a team of judges, it usually takes quite a bit of time, especially considering how many awards categories they have. While the judges were doing their thing, Tiffanie and I continue to explore the show and try our best to survive the incredibly humid temperatures of Southeast Asia. We have some fun with the people there, chat with some of the locals as they show us their cars and then I proceed to join-in on possibly the most awkward awards ceremony ever. I’d like to say it was the language barrier that caused the confusion but most of it just had to do with the MCs not being prepared enough to know what was going on. Either way, it was an entertaining experience and after the show, Reza from HIN decided to take us on a short little vacay to the beautiful island of Bali. There was a lot more that happened but it wasn’t totally car-related so I decided to leave most of that out. Hope you guys enjoy what you saw. Indonesia is a wonderfully mysterious, interesting place that I was happy to see. Thanks to everyone there for their hospitality and to all of you for watching…
