Wekfest San Jose 2023 Coverage… Part 2…

Wekfest San Jose 2023 Coverage… Part 2…

For this second portion of the Wekfest SJ ’23 coverage, I’ll actually be spending a bulk of it spotlighting very specific builds that I encountered that weekend. San Jose is technically a 2-day event for the Wekfest crew because roll-in and set-up occurs the entire day prior to the actual show. Being that it is such a huge event with over 450 cars, it takes a good amount of time to stage every car and vendor. Add to that the time it takes to build the entire booth and the hours just fly-by. The good thing about having an entire weekend of Wekfest is that I actually get to experience the show. That sounds crazy from a spectator’s perspective but we literally spend all of our time work when the show happens all on the same day. Most of it is spend judging, some of it is doing all the announcing, even less of it is spent eating/relaxing, and whatever time I can muster in-between is used to shoot content. The bigger San Jose and Los Angeles events are fun for me because I have a few hours to actually walk the show and be a spectator myself. Los Angeles is obviously a good one for me because I can just go home and not be in a hotel. There are no suitcases involved. San Jose is nice because the hotel is directly connected to the convention center. So we can just walk back to our rooms after we are done for the day. There’s no rush to leave and the people at the San Jose Convention Center gives us as much time as we need to set-up. Long after the exhibitors are gone, we can stay behind and walk the show in peace. The doors are locked, security roams the building, and we get to do whatever we want…

Wekfest San Jose 2023 Coverage… Part 1…

Man, it has been quite a while since I put together one of these blog posts. Things have been so crazy hectic here that I find myself stuck in one of the rare occasions when I actually have TOO MUCH content to show you guys. Being in Japan for most of the first-half of the year will do that I guess. I collected so much photo content during those months that there was much catching-up to do after I returned home. And once I got home, most of my time was dedicated to executing the CHRNCLS x ADVAN collaboration properly. It was such a unique opportunity that there was so way I was going to NOT give it my all. As much as I hate to admit it, everything else went on the backburner as a result of that. I wanted to leave no stone unturned. There was no way I was going to allow someone to say “that’s nice but this could have been done better”. I wouldn’t let it leave my hands if that was the case. It wouldn’t be fair to my years of hard work. By the time the collaboration rolled-out to the public, there really wasn’t a second to breathe. The summer season had come upon us and I was immediately back on the road…

Why The WEST is BEST: WEKFEST SAN JOSE!!…

Why The WEST is BEST: WEKFEST SAN JOSE!!…

Crazy that we are already at the 15-year anniversary of Wekfest! It just seems like yesterday when we were surprised to be at year 10. What a ride it has been. Northern California is the birthplace of Wekfest so we always try to bring out the top-tier builds. It’s understood that expectations are high and all eyes are on what’s happening in the West Coast so no amount of energy was spared in planning out this entire show. As busy as it was, I tried to vlog the entire weekend and put something together for you guys to enjoy. I apologize that the quality of the video inside isn’t the most spectacular. The lighting isn’t the best so I had to use a mounted flash to add some extra light wherever I could…

It’s Friday already which means that tomorrow is already set-up and roll-in for the Los Angeles portion of the Wekfest 2022 tour. This schedule has been so jampacked that it feels like we have a show every other week. I say that knowing that in two weeks, we’re off to New Jersey for the East Coast stop. So yeahhhhh….it’s been busy. The positive side of heading to the East is that I have no car to worry about prepping or booth to run at the show. I get to just shoot and judge. California is so much more work because I’m involved with so many things and want to maximize on my opportunities at these big events. Next year might allot me more time to do even more though, because we’ve toyed with the idea of making the San Jose Super Show a TWO-DAY event. Yes, a car show that spans the entire weekend. I don’t know how that will work or what it looks like logistically…but it is definitely a very realistic idea. Whether it comes to fruition or not is another thing. We shall see. During the awards I asked the crowd of exhibitors and show-goers if a two-day event would be something they would be interested in and the response was overwhelmingly positive…

Like last year, Wekfest San Jose was pretty packed. It’ll never get to the point of how it was back at Fort Mason, because this venue is much bigger, but it continues to grow even after 10+ years. We would never allow it to get as crowded as it was back when the show was at San Francisco because, frankly, it was pretty dangerous. Like, you couldn’t even breathe it was so damn packed back then. But, we didn’t know any better. Now we’ve all grown-up and just want everyone to be able to be comfortable in their own space while having the ability to enjoy the cars on display. Early in the morning, I was honestly a little worried because I thought that it would be tough to be the vibe from 2021. It was our first time back after the lay-off from the pandemic so everyone was excited to just be at one of the biggest car shows of the year. The energy just felt so different. There was excitement in the air…

Every year around this time, everything seems to happen all at once. We go from not having any major car events to having them back-to-back. Sometimes events even overlap. After I got back from Japan, I thought things would be slow so I can catch-up on life but then I wake-up and it’s already time for Wekfest San Jose. This summer season just zooms by and at a blink of an eye, it’s already fall. I think it felt especially sudden this year because our San Jose event didn’t happen until much later in 2021. It hasn’t even been a calendar year and here we are again at the biggest Wekfest show of the season. Should I even mention that Wekfest Los Angeles is this weekend?? Talk about a time crunch. This year was especially stressful because Kristian and I were busy putting a car together…

California Dreamin’ At Wekfest San Jose…

California Dreamin’ At Wekfest San Jose…

With the Battlecraft x Exceed GR86 together now, it was time for me to make the 6-hour drive up to San Jose for the annual Wekfest super show! Not only was I shooting and working the event this year, I also had to make sure to get the GR86 there for display. Our goal was to have this car showcased at the two biggest Wekfest events of the year so it was important for me to get the car to San Jose. The drive itself wasn’t so bad, but it definitely made me remember why I stopped driving so far for shows, lol. Being that it was such a hectic event, I didn’t have too much time to film during the show but I did manage to capture some of what happened behind-the-scenes. After I got back to Los Angeles after the show, I found out that there was another event to attend mid-week so I cleaned-up the GR once again and cruised over!

Wekfest San Jose 2021 Coverage… Part 2…

I am currently sitting on a kitchen counter top in Austin, Texas as I type out this concluding portion of the San Jose Wekfest coverage. It’s about 9PM Texas time and we just wrapped-up dinner at the AirBnb house we are staying at, just a couple days away from the last Wekfest show of 2021. It’s been a pretty wild year to say the least. It started out a bit slow, the months dragged on it seemed, but then by mid-summer, things just took-off. Things started to open back up, there seemed to be an endless amount of car meets going on every weekend, and indoor car shows officially resumed. In the past two months, we’ve done three Wekfest events that took us from Seattle, back home to Los Angeles, and to San Jose for the ‘Super Bowl’…
