The Motherfucken’ OC Car Mixer/SOC 1-Year Anniversary Meet 2012 Coverage…Part 1 of 2…

Style Over Comfort celebrated their 1-year anniversary event this past weekend at the new VIP Modular facility over in Garden Grove, California. Anh and Chris have always been big supporters of The Chronicles so I wanted to make sure to return the love by checking out their event. The weather has been dreadful here lately, by Socal standards anyway, so there was a fear of rain leading up to that Sunday. The meet was going to happen rain or shine either way but even so, as an event organizer, you’d prefer that there not been any uncontrollable factors affecting the turnout of your event. While many are willing to make the drive in the rain, there are some who aren’t and many who are worried about driving long distances to get to an event in the rain. I woke up early that morning because I decided to bring my car out to the SOC event and the weather, while overcast, looked like it was going to be rain free. May and I grabbed some breakfast at McDonalds, and then head over to the VIP Modular facility. When we arrived, there were a ton of cars set-up already and people hanging out. I had been to their older building for another meet a year ago so I really wasn’t even sure where this new spot was. The lot looked much bigger than their previous location and was much more suitable for a meet…

Not soon after I got there, it did start raining but it was just a very light sprinkling. It continued throughout the day but it didn’t really hinder people from coming out. I mean, it’s hard to say, maybe had it not rained the turnout would have been much bigger but the lot looked pretty full by the early afternoon. I talked to Anh the following day and asked him if he was satisfied with the turnout and he said he didn’t really go into it with any wild expectations. They are still a relatively new website that is trying to find their footing so any kind of turnout would have been a good thing. The most interesting thing about the SOC site is that they don’t really have a specific style that they cater to. They cover a wide array of different import vehicles and it showed in the crowd that showed up to their meet. One of the best things about the meet was the food. I am a huge fan of the Dogzilla food truck as well as the Dos Chinos truck, and both were in attendance that Sunday to serve food. Even if the meet was dead I would have been satisfied with just eating the food there, haha. I think a couple others felt that same way as well but having a good turnout was a definite plus. Congrats to Anh, Chris, and the rest of the Style Over Comfort guys and I wish them continued success in the future. I know these days there are a ton of automotive sites/blogs out there so you might think that we were competitors or something, but I don’t see it that way. If you have a site that can produce a quality product, that only helps to make our community better. There are definitely a lot of garbage ass sites out there, don’t get me wrong, but I’m always open to seeing some good quality content from hard working individuals. Enjoy…

The last time I saw this S14 240SX was at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Someone had mentioned to me that it had a Toyota 2JZ-GTE swap in it but I didn’t get to see the engine bay until the SOC event… Nice clean build with a good overall theme to it…

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve always wanted to build one of these old Infiniti M30s. They’re ugly as fuck normally but when you put some work into them, they can look pretty cool. In the rare times when I actually do see one in person, I always stop to check them out. I still want to build one and would probably buy one if I could find a mint chassis but I always change my mind because I know I would drop a ton of money into it. Otherwise I’d just be driving an ugly ass stock M30 around, haha….

IMG_7986-Edit

The coolest thing about this particular M30 was that it had a turbo RB25DET swap in it…

The car that I might actually end up getting, realistically, is an IS300 Sport Cross. My 4-Runner is getting up there in age and I really need a new daily, but still need a car that has the room to carry around all my booth stuff whenever we do events. There aren’t too many wagons out there that I like, but I am absolutely in love with the IS Sport Cross. The only problem is that they only made like 5,000 of these EVER in the U.S. so they’re still pretty pricey as a used vehicle. I’m in the hunt now so it was good to see this clean Sport Cross on Rotiform wheels to serve as motivation…

I’m pretty sure this E38 BMW was missing a front lip but it looked really good on silver Work Brombacher wheels…Love the long wheel base with the lowered ride height…

If you remember the coverage from my Year.IV meet, you probably recognize this EF hatchback when it had black VIP-styled dish wheels on it. While it was an interesting look, I can’t help but like the new set of white Work RSZ-Rs more…I think it just suits the style of the car better…

IMG_8000-Edit

I’ve been seeing a lot more of these three EFs the last couple months and I don’t know what it is, but 2012 has to be the year of the re-emergence of the chassis because they are literally everywhere, even in Japan. Seems like there are a lot more clean examples of them floating around this year than in year’s past. It’s always going to be a popular Honda chassis but I’m pretty surprised to see so many of them lately…

If you guys have never had it before, you gotta try it, especially if you like eating hot dogs….They’ve taken the classic all-American hot dog and made it better but wrapping it in King’s Hawaiian bread and putting all kinds of Asian shit on top of it. It’s fucking amazing…

Closing it out for today with this FC3S RX-7 from Buddha Customs…

IMG_8049-Edit

Absolutely LOVE these custom step-lip Panasport G7 wheels…I would have built a set of these for my own car a long time ago if I could have built a set of 19s without needing like 3-4 steps in the lip. I like the wheels but I don’t want my wheels to have more steps than a Mayan temple, haha… Anyways, that’s all for today. Thanks for looking…
