WEKEAST 2013 Coverage…Part 7: The Grand Finale…

thefinale_Edit

I just wanted to take the time now to really thank all of you for coming onto the site to view my ramblings and my photos. I tried my best to cover WEKEAST as it was presented to me that day from start to finish. All 400 photos that you’ve seen throughout these seven parts were all shot in chronological order so you saw exactly what I saw during my weekend in New Jersey and New York. It was an amazing experience as I knew it would be after seeing coverage of it from other people the year before. I was honored to be brought out there to do coverage and to judge the Honda/Acura Class and it was a pleasure speaking to and meeting everyone that I did. I couldn’t have asked for much more. The community is certainly a different one compared to how it is out here but I’m happy that I was able to experience it. Like I said before, no matter what our differences and backgrounds are, the passion remains the same. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip out to the East Coast but it wouldn’t be the same without the people from Wekfest. They welcomed me with open arms and I had a blast hanging out with them on our adventures to New York City. Also a special shout-out to Sean Bradford and the guys from SNTRL NYC for inviting me out to go check out their pre-WEKEAST meet-up and cruise. It was an experience I won’t soon forget…

Today marks the end of my journey. We will take a look at a couple more cars from the show before wrapping everything up. Please take the time to read through it and thank you all once again…

Below are Parts 1 through 6 chronologically organized for your viewing pleasure if at any point you missed any of it…

And now….The Grand Finale…

Kicking it off with a shot of this RL3/4 Honda Odyssey Mini-Van bagged and planted to the floor. Would look great with a better set of wheels but the XXRs will do…

IMG_9559-Edit

The widebody Mitsubishi Evo X on SSR Professor SP3s that you first saw in Part 2 of this 7-part series…

IMG_9561-Edit

Metallic green(ish) vinyl-wrapped Evo on CCW LM5s…

IMG_9562-Edit

White MK5 Golf GTI on gold BBS LMs…

IMG_9563-Edit

Can’t believe how many Subarus I saw on air suspension at WEKEAST. Pretty wild considering how so many people complain that being “static” is everything. I guess when you’re out on shitty roads everyday, priorities change…

IMG_9564-Edit

IMG_9565-Edit

J-swapped 6-cylinder Honda Civic hatchback on 16-inch VIP Modular VX210…

IMG_9567-Edit

IMG_9568-Edit

4-Door Honda Civic from Dark City Racing on CCW LM5T wheels. Engine bay is shaved with a B-series swap. Notice the Rum bottle used as a coolant resevoir. Not sure how that holds up during normal driving but it makes very a unique (and odd) touch…

IMG_9570-Edit

16-inch Barramundi Design Elevens look perfect on Jorge Ramos’ Shuttle from Team NSU….

IMG_9571-Edit

Another Civic Wagon from Team NSU, owned by Alexander Cardona, with Spoon Sports brakes and polished Sprint Hart CP-R… Both Jorge and Alex have JDM EF9 SiR front bumpers but Jorge has a Chargespeed front lip added onto his…

IMG_9572-Edit

G35 coupe on ISS Forged wheels… Random but I haven’t seen shaved door handles in a while…

IMG_9573-Edit

K-swapped Civic hatchback with First Molding Flugel Plate and Desmond Regamaster EVO Brites. Engine bay is missing some stuff, most notably an air intake, but it’s getting there….

IMG_9575-Edit

Second gen. Acura TSX on Vossen wheels and JDM Accord front grille. Notice the clear hood deflector…

IMG_9576-Edit

Boosted IS300 on air suspension and polished CCW Classics…

IMG_9577-Edit

Yet another car on bags at WEKEAST, this an Audi TT on step-lipped BBS RS…

IMG_9578-Edit

Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet on flat black concave Rotiform NUE…

IMG_9579-Edit

Really liked the deep green tone on this Volkswagen Jetta on gold BBS LMs. Not a big lover of two-toned engine bays but it’s nice that it matches the wheels. Overall this is a pretty well-rounded build; custom engine bay, air suspension, wheels, custom paint, Status seats, color-matched roll bar, not bad…

IMG_9580-Edit

Acura TL on D2 air suspension and SSR Professor MS3. Nice touch with the custom front lip and brick red interior. Also has a D2 big brake kit too…

IMG_9581-Edit

Aggressive, VIP-styled 7th gen. Honda Accord sedan on custom Cognac Copper VIP Modular VX210s…

IMG_9605-Edit

One of the best builds of WEKEAST was this old school Datsun Fairlady roadster. The owner was super stoked when he won an award and everyone seemed to really dig his build….

IMG_9603-Edit

Powering the Fairlady is this SR20DET swap with upgraded Garrett turbine. I believe this Fairlady is also on nitrous oxide induction too because in the rear of his roadster was a Nitrous bottle done in a similar finish to that of the custom woodgrain valve cover…

IMG_9586-Edit

Around this time, everyone gathered by the Wekfest booth to listen to the awards announcements. I didn’t really take any photos at this point because I wanted to focus on the crowd itself and how they reacted to their fellow enthusiasts winning…

IMG_9588-Edit

The girls organizing the awards and lining them up so that Junior from Wekfest announced them in the correct order…

IMG_9592-Edit

Junior doing his thing and thanking the show participants and attendees…

After the awards wrapped-up, I walked around the show and said goodbye to the people that I knew and congratulated the winners that day. Then I was in desperate need of a drink so I grabbed something from the vending machines and chilled outside for a little bit while the cars exited the venue…

IMG_9607-Edit

Outside, I spotted an Acura TSX with Accord Euro-R conversion and black CCW LM5s….

IMG_9609-Edit

Also saw this Mercedes Benz wagon on some aggressive BBS RS wheels…

IMG_9610-Edit

Spotted Jorge Ramos leaving the building…

IMG_9615-Edit

IMG_9613-Edit

Couple more shots of Anthony Dicarlo’s ’65 VW Beetle as it sat outside the venue…

IMG_9618-Edit

And one of my favorite shots of the day featuring Joe Cheung’s Subaru WRX STI and Nawshin Basher’s Mitsu Evo…

Once everyone grabbed their stuff, we hopped back into our rental cars and left the show. A bunch of people stuck around to do photoshoots and what not since the parking lot was so huge. I didn’t stick around for that but if I had some free time, I probably would have shot some more stuff while I was there. We were all hungry and I hadn’t eaten anything all day other than some donuts early in the morning. We ended up at a Asian food spot not too far from our hotel that was just amazing. It probably had more to do with the fact that we were starving but the food there was really good. It was so good that I didn’t even bother pulling my camera out to document it. I just wanted to eat and relax after a long day of shooting and judging cars at WEKEAST. I know the coverage went to seven different parts but you gotta remember that I did all of this in just a couple hours time in one day. It was a lot of work but well worth my time…

I thought about going into NYC one more time but it seemed like everyone was super tired and not down to take a train out to the city. The MTV Video Music Awards were going on that night too so we just hung out downstairs at our hotel lobby and watched it together. It was our last night there in New Jersey so it was great to just hang out and have some drinks. There was a bar in the hotel too and we took full advantage of it….

IMG_9625-Edit

Aaron, Steph, and Ray having some drinks as the MTV VMAs started…

IMG_9626-Edit

The Asian Hair-parted face of Wekfest, Kenneth Li, checking out some shit on this phone. I barely saw this guy all weekend other than at the show and at dinner so it was nice to hang out with him for a bit…

IMG_9628-Edit

Elissa Alva was with us as well, along with the rest of the Wekfest staff. Will and his family, along with Junior and his family, decided to call it a night early and knocked out so it was just the youngins’ drinking…

IMG_9633-Edit

I usually drink Red Bull Vodkas, some other shit mixed with Vodka, or a Jameson and Ginger Ale mix but decided to just drink whatever everyone else was drinking that night. I don’t recall what it was but it was Amaretto mixed with something…whatever it is we drank quite a bit of it…

IMG_9634-Edit

After watching Miley Cyrus shake her no-ass and wave her stinky vagina around, we were all a little disgusted and turned our drinking level up to the max…

We hung out some more and ate some ice cream and chatted, then everyone parted ways back to their hotel rooms. I still had to pack so I spent the next hour just cleaning up and getting ready for my flight home tomorrow since I didn’t want to wake up early to do it…

IMG_9636-Edit

The next morning, I made sure to get a group shot of us after we checked out of the hotel. These are the faces of Wekfest from behind-the-scenes that helped to make the show run so smoothly. A round of applause to these folks…

IMG_9638-Edit

We had a couple hours to kill before our flights out of Newark and our stomachs were feeling completely bulletproof so we decided to take a trip over to a local White Castle to eat some soggy ass meat sliders. I’ve never been much of a fan but I’ll sometimes eat just about anything so I threw some down and waited for my stomach to give me the good ol’ “fuck you”…

IMG_9639-Edit

Half the Asians in our group can’t not eat without having a smoke break after so we hung out outside of White Castle while they got their smoke on…

Once we ate, smoked, got a stomachache, and dropped off the rental cars, it was time for me to part ways from the rest of the group. They were all flying back to Northern California while I made my way back to Socal…

IMG_9642-Edit

My flight was a little later than there’s so I went over to the Nathan’s inside the airport by my terminal and ate some cheese fries. Nothing like throwing down some hot cheese to layer the wet burgers that I ate earlier…

IMG_9643-Edit

My air chariot arrived soon after and I took off back to Cali. So ends the epic seven-part mini-series of WEKEAST 2013 coverage. It is my hope that all of you enjoyed what you saw and I can’t wait to go back next year to do it all over again. Thanks everyone for looking and sticking around to see this coverage until the end. Til next time ladies and gents…It’s a wrap.

  1. The entire show was awesome, We’d like to THANK you guys for all the support, all the hard work, effort, and time it has taken to build this show on the East Coast.
The articles you have written drive us to continue to build these cars for ourselves and our clients. You were able to showcase the entire event in a few pages which is a feat in itself.
Shows like Wek’Fest along with great show coverage, gives shops like us a platform and stage to showcase work, help customer’s feel accomplishment and receive gratitude for what they have spent several hours and dollars building. It keeps food on the table for those of us who make a living off of building cars.

Thank you, as well as your staff.

P.S. Please let Ernesto know that we will continue to support you guys whenever needed.
