Forever, Civic Type R…

I don’t do it very often but once in a blue moon, I used to post up various stuff from other parts of the world either from the web, or from overseas publications such as Option, Option2, etc. I don’t get to view this mags enough as I used to when I lived in San Diego because the Mitsuwa Market up here in L.A. is a bit far and in an area that I’m not too familiar with. On Wednesday, I had to take DPK David and Jackie to the airport in SD because they were heading for a nice little vacation in Hawaii so I just decided to spend the day in SD with May, being as she was still recovering from her L.A. Marathon adventure. We had lunch with my parents up in the area where the Mitsuwa was so we decided to hang out there for a bit. There’s so much Japanese stuff to look at so we usually spend awhile there. I’ll peruse the books while she’s running around just trying to look at everything. Anyways, the title of this post is kinda weird but it’s actually the headline for one of the publications that I bought while I was there. I usually will pick up a Option mag or two and maybe a VIPCAR mag but this Honda Style issue really caught my eye…

One of the reasons I picked it up is well, because we all share a love of Hondas, and also because I love the FD2 Civic Type Rs and I am determined to build a U.S. counterpart with a CTR conversion if and when I ever decide to get back into building Hondas again. Right now just isn’t a good time but I always keep an eye out for what’s new for the FD2 chassis even though they are discontinued now. There are a handful here in the states that I am pretty fond of but I mean, if I was to actually build one, I’d do it very different from how the guys here are doing them up. For now, I can only plan and dream and look at magazines like this for inspiration. This Honda Style mag is something I’ve seen there before but I decided to buy this one so that I could get a bit of motivation and also to show you guys what publications are like over there and the stuff they’re covering. I can’t read Japanese for shit of course so most of my understanding of these publications come from pictures…

I thought this shot was pretty cool. It was on the table of contents and it covers all the generations of the Civic hatchback…

All three generations of the Japanese CTR…

Kinda digging this Honda Access Sports Modulo Type R…

They talked in detail about the Mugen RR concept…

Big fan of the Mugen FD2…They did like a little comparison on the Mugen FD2 Civic and the Mugen Edition Civic here in the U.S….There’s no comparison because the Japanese one has so many more parts available and it just looks so much better…

Here’s a couple shots of the mag covering the older generation Civics including the EF8, EG6, and EK4 SiR…

Never been a fan of how M&M Honda makes their kit for the FD2 resemble an R35 GTR but it does look good with the TE37 Super Laps on there…

Of all the aerokits available for this chassis, the M&M one is definitely not the most attractive…I’d take those AP Racing brakes all day though, haha…

Cool head-on shot of two Scoot FD2s…

They did quite a bit of coverage on the FN2 Civic Euro Type R too but I didn’t take any other pics of them because I don’t really get exposed to them too much and I doubt you guys are as well. When they first came out I thought they were a little hideous but the more I look at them, the more I like them. Still not really that big of a fan of the back part of the car but the rest looks pretty good…The crappy pic above is the Scoot FN2…

The RG-O FD2…nice and simple. Really like the look of the Enkei wheels on there too…

Here’s a more detailed look at the RG-O EK9 Civic Type R. I don’t think very many people stateside know about this company compared to the likes of Mugen and Spoon Sports and what not. Hell, FEEL’s Twin Cam might be considered “well-known” in the U.S. compared the RG-O and barely anyone really talks about the guys over at FEEL’s… You should really check out what RG-O has though. Their site has some pretty cool stuff and they even have a blog with some good images. What’s also cool about it is that their site is still on Geocities…when was the last time you heard of that site?… http://www.geocities.jp/rgohsumi…

Thought this was a pretty cool shot of the Esprit CR-Z in a Japanese Prodrive ad in the book…

They had an indepth story on the J’s Racing CR-Z. When I say “indepth” I’m assuming of course because I have no idea what any of that shit says…

Backyard Special CR-Z…

A majority of the book is dedicated to the Civic Type R but there was a huge section in the middle where they strictly show CR-Z stuff and all the new gear that’s coming out for it…

First time I’d ever seen anything from “CRaft A”. Don’t know much about them but I thought it was cool that one of the hatches had a full wire-tucked, two-tone bay…

Here’s a shot of all the cars at the FEEL’s Honda Twin Cam “meeting”…Let me know if you guys want me to blow this shot up so you can actually see all the cars…

…Speaking of FEEL’s, their FD2 is what really inspired me to want to build a newer body Civic. I love everything about that car and I swear, when I get back into Hondas, my build is going to be based off of their FD2…I absolutely love that car…

I also picked-up the new issue of VIPCAR while I was there. I usually either pick this up or the VIPStyle magazine but this particular month, the VIPCAR came with a gift so it made it the easy choice to buy…

This is where my lack of knowledge for the Japanese language fails me. I really didn’t know what the gift was and merely thought it was something from Garson D.A.D…I didn’t notice the 90cmx60cm measurements which probably would have gave away what it was but oh well…

I took it out of the bag and it was just like, a sheet that had the D.A.D logo on it…No idea what it was for or what they mean by “Luxury Leisure Seat”. Maybe I can use it to sit my ass on the floor or something, who knows. I’d be disappointed but it was free so I can’t really complain. Makes for a cool collectors item I guess, if you’re into giant black sheets that really serve no purpose, haha…

That’s all for today. Make sure you guys try to head out to the Need For Speed: Shift 2 release car meet this Saturday at the Source Interlink El Segundo offices. It’ll be a cool time and we will all be out there so come by and check out the new game and say what’s up…See you there…

  1. That D.A.D thing usually known as a “leisure sheet” in Japan, otherwise known to us as a tarpaulin. People take them when they go to watch fireworks or sit under cherry trees, etc. You sometimes get them with baseball team logos on them as a free promotion with sixpacks of beer.

  2. Good shit! Shoulda picked me up a copy of the fd2 mag. Woulda bought it!

  3. “i absolutely love that car”
    haha, who doesn’t 😉
I’m also interested building the type-r version of the sedan Civic, here in europe all we can see is lame 1.6 sedan Civic and that ugly space shuttle hatchback as type-r 🙁
Keep up the good coverage work, i like it so much that i check everyday(atleast once in a week) whether you’ve updated the site, you rule 🙂
ps. i own a sedan Civic 1.5lsi haha, drinks lots of oil but drives and handles great!
