Year.Three Coverage…Part 1…

Thank you.

There are no two other words in the English dictionary that can better explain my gratitude and appreciation for your continued support of The Chronicles. It’s still pretty wild to think that it’s already been three years since I started this site and how quickly it has grown in that time. You guys hear me talk about this on occasion but to put it in perspective, man, it’s been a pretty wild ride. I started out with no camera, decent writing ability, and perverted sense of humor and in my first month, I achieved a staggering total of like 120-something hits for the ENTIRE month. Since then the site has grown to the point where I can get 120-some odd hits in a matter of 15-20 minutes. I taught myself how to use a camera, got a little bit better at writing, and I guess you can say that I created somewhat of a fan-base. Throwing meets and events have never been my thing…I like going to them and having the freedom to do as I please without worrying about who is going where, what’s happening, or anything related to organization. Last year, when I did the 2YRS two-year anniversary event, it was mildly stressful. I had never put a meet together, I really didn’t have anything planned, and up until a month or so before the event, I didn’t even have a venue! Luckily Ryan from Eibach Springs was kind enough to offer me the Eibach Springs facility and everything just sort of fell into place. People had a good time, and that’s what mattered.

This year, I really wasn’t sure if I wanted to do an anniversary meet. Everyone kept asking me when I was gonna have it and I told them that my goal was to only throw an anniversary meet if the site got bigger and I was happy with the direction of The Chronicles. We are sitting here now talking about the Year.Three event because the site has continued to be successful. I have met so many incredible people throughout these three years and it’s actually only right that I was able to get everyone together to celebrate not only the success of the site, but also to celebrate the great relationships that have formed because of the site. It’s the people that matter to me and I honestly do appreciate the friendships that have developed throughout these three years. I’m not just talking about people from California either. I’ve met and spoken to people from all over the world…Japan, Canada, Australia, and all parts of the United States. Last year’s meet had such a great reception and positive feedback that it was an easy decision to bring it back to the Eibach Springs facility. It’s a gigantic open space that everyone knows of, because of the annual Eibach Honda meet, and it’s tucked away in the industrial section of Corona, CA where no one unrelated to the event would be able to disturb anything that was going on. I hit up Ryan from Eibach and he was more than happy to let me use the Eibach lot and the planning began.  I didn’t want to do anything drastically different from last years because everything went so smoothly in 2010. One thing I wanted to do this year was bring along some vendors and friends of the site for the ride as well as doing something that nobody expected, which was to present a small set of awards at the show. I like to show my appreciation for great builds every year with the annual Top Ten Hondas list so I thought that it would be a good idea to have some awards to spotlight some of the best builds that came out to the Year.Three event.

Everything really couldn’t have gone any better. I would say that I am about 97% happy with how everything went down at Year.Three, with the remaining 3% left to the incredibly hot weather that day as well as the horrible traffic leading to Eibach, both factors which were completely out of my hands. As for the coverage, I spent the majority of the first couple hours that day setting up the booth, making sure everyone else’s booths were situated, and parking cars. There were quite a few cars that I didn’t get a chance to get photos of simply because they left before I was able to. I didn’t really get to start shooting until maybe halfway through the meet and I wish I could have covered the entire day. The same thing happened last year but there’s just no other way around it. I didn’t want to burden others with having to help me out just so I could take pictures and I’m lucky that there were already more than enough people lending a hand. I pretty much got the bulk of the meet though as far as the cars that were up front in the VIP section. I walked around the side and rear of the building to check out the cars but that wasn’t til the end of the day when I was taking out the trash and cleaning up. If you don’t see your car in the coverage, that doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate you being there, because that just isn’t the case. I either just plain missed you, or I was busy chatting with people that were coming up to me. I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out to support Year.Three. You guys make this possible and you make it fun. Let’s keep the positive vibes going into 2012 and we can do it even bigger next year…

With that said, we should probably start getting to some photos. I’ll continue talking your heads off in part 2 of the coverage. You do come here for the spoken word and commentary, you know? Any other site can just post up photos and move along. I’m here to numb your mind with non-stop rambling and some decent photos…Enjoy…

Huge shout-out goes to Tony Jackson and Ryan Hoegner for taking time out of their weekend to be a part of this event. Without these guys Year.Three wouldn’t be possible. Ryan even coached his daughter’s softball game before making his way out. Tony was there bright and early waiting for May and I to show up to set-up the meet. When I got there at 11:30am, he was the only one on the lot and he was trying to set-up a canopy on his own…Thank you guys…

Here’s a look at what the front vendor area looked like a couple hours into Year.Three…This year’s meet was way bigger than last years but it still had the same, laid back, chill vibe that I really wanted…

I was happy to see some of my favorite cars out, and I was really happy with the amount of love I got from enthusiasts that came out from my hometown of San Diego, CA….I would say that probably a 1/3 of the event consisted of people from San Diego…Bryant and Ly’s TSXs are some of my favorites from back home…

Another car that I was overjoyed to see was Sam Ip’s 8th gen. Civic…

Gumby also apparently is a supporter of The Chronicles…

Tony from Phaze2 stopped by after work in his daily VIP 1GS…he recently got new wheels for it and was anxious to bring it out to show us…Here he is taking a moment to chat with Arnel from Phaze2…

Tony’s 1GS laid out on the ground…

RC from Arizona made the trek out to show us his updates on his EG9 Civic…The last time we saw this car was at Nisei when he parked in my “GENERATIONS” section…More photos of this build will come later…

Random shot of DPK JP helping out in May’s “Walk for Hope” Cancer Walk booth…

What I liked about this year’s event compared to the 2010 meet was the variety of cars that showed up. I’m a huge fan of all sorts of different cars so it was cool to see equal support from non-Honda heads…

The lovely Ms. Holly Lee on hand at the “It’s JDM Yo!!!” booth…

These two guys made the trip all the way down from the state of Washington to check out the meet…I had been exchanging emails with Greg (left) leading up to the event but I really regret not being able to chat with them more because I was busy running around everywhere…

May had a cool purple-themed set-up at her own booth to raise money for her Cancer Walk on November 6th…

Keith aka Keychain from “It’s JDM Yo!!!” reppin with his Stickydiljoe.com Chronicles tee…

I had a huge turnout of Accord enthusiasts last year so I was honestly a little bummed to see that they didn’t come out for this year’s meet, but luckily, a huge number of TSX owners represented and I think a lot of people that day were surprised by the quality of all these TSX builds…

Arn Reyes kept his Integra at home for the day and instead brought out his Mini…He was posted up front alongside DPK JP and Enrique Rosario’s cream-colored hatchback…

Absolutely love JonJon’s IS350…

I wasn’t really sure if any of the ATS Garage guys would be able to come down from Norcal so it was a pleasant surprise when I showed up at the Rywire facility that Friday and saw Ryan Der and his EK….

Freddie and the Autofashion crew not only supplied the music and entertainment but also brought out a pair of Honda Ruckus’…The guys from Standard Functions also came out and brought a large group of Ruckus’ as well…

Good to see JP’s Civic coming out of hibernation and making public appearances again…

Really nice Acura NSX that was posted up by the front gate. The owner wanted to purchase a VIP spot and park closer but we all felt that it was perfectly placed where everyone could see it…

A couple guys checking out JP’s “Bling Gauge” on his carbon headlight cover…

Enrique Rosario’s Civic…this guy has always been a huge supporter of The Chronicles. I still remember when he had a green valve cover and a Chronicles sticker plastered on his spark plug wire cover…

Arn’s Mini on SSRs…

Good to see DPK Jared’s S2000 in a near complete state. This car spent much of the year out of commission because Ryan was busy doing a wire tuck as well as custom brake lines and custom radiator…

Here’s an updated shot of the engine bay after everything was relocated, hidden, and the entire bay resprayed…

One obvious change since you guys last saw it is the Mugen air intake…

Downstairs Frank from PG+K…

James Nguyen aka OldManJames’ S2000…

Michael Mao’s NSX on Volk CE28 Genesis wheels…

I was happy to see my favorite AE86 build of all-time at Year.Three…Mr. Ka Wong also helped supply the L&L Hawaiian BBQ food that I ordered for all the close friends and family of the site….

Big Steve’s LS teleported from the magical land of Narnia and mysteriously appeared at the meet….I went from never seeing this car to seeing it three times in one year…it must be some sort of miracle…

Another angle of Phaze2 Tony’s 1GS on Work Varianza D3S….

Take another look at RC’s engine bay and tell me later on if you think that this car deserved to win the “Best Engine Bay” award….

Yogi from Fatlace along with some of the other Ruckus guys getting set to take off…

The line-up as they rolled out…

Rodrez from Honda Tuning magazine getting some video footage…

On that note, I’m gonna cut it off for today with the video that resulted from what was going on in the image above…Thanks goes out to Rodrez for taking time out of his day to create this cool video…

Back with much more tomorrow!…
