Spocom 2012 Pre-Meet Coverage…

Just a small batch of photos for you guys today… I originally heard about this event towards the beginning of last week. It was relatively short notice but I made an effort to go out there to check it out. Paul Nguyen is the guy behind Spocom operations this year but was working for its competitor, the Motion Auto Show, last year. During that time, he gave me a free booth at Motion and really took care of me so I wanted to return the favor by supporting the guy. There’s a huge back story on the two events of course but I won’t get into it. I’m not directly related to it and both shows have been good to me in the past. Paul has always been kind to me and we had only become acquainted not too long ago. I won’t be able to attend the 2012 Spocom show this year because I have a wedding to attend that same day and it’s a pretty big deal so I can’t really miss out on it. I’d like to be able to attend to see how Paul has improved the Spocom show but it’s just an unfortunate thing that the two events coincided. Either way I’m sure it’ll be good. The Spocom “pre-meet” that took place this past weekend was relatively small, but the turnout was pretty good. The venue, K1 Speed, is a go-karting spot with a relatively small parking lot but it didn’t have any affect on the overall outcome of the meet. I pulled up thinking that there wouldn’t be much going on because I rarely go to event pre-meets but was pleasantly surprised. They also took advantage of the karting track as well and had competitions between industry people as well as a race that featured some import models. I didn’t stick around for that but I saw them setting up and the track there was pretty large…

Another reason why I wanted to check out this meet was to test out my new camera. I had been shooting with the same Canon T2i for the last couple of years and decided to finally move on to a better Canon body. I’m still getting the hang of things so I didn’t take too many photos that day. This new body is completely new to me so it is going to take some time for me to get used to all the nuances. Check out the photos below and make sure you guys attend the Spocom event in August. Let me know how it is since I won’t be able to attend….

Tomorrow I will have a huge announcement in regards to the Nisei Showoff event and if you are a dedicated Honda enthusiast, this is something that you will not want to miss…. I’ve been working on this for some time now and it is going to be one of those once in a life time events, I promise you…

I didn’t really show up expecting to see anyone familiar but we spotted Tony and the It’s JDM Yo!! crew on hand with booth and all…

IMG_0123

Michael Mao’s twin-turbo NSX on custom Mugen MF10s….

IMG_0127

Took a snap of his wheels that is very similar to an older photo I took with my other Canon dSLR so I can do side-by-side comparisons…

IMG_0125

I always manage to forget to snap a shot of his engine bay so I made sure to get one…

IMG_0129

Rarely get any interior shots of this NSX as well so here you go… I honestly had no idea he had a Vision wheel or Status seats in his car until that day…haha…

IMG_0184

Mugen engrish… “Don’t pants in your shit!”…

IMG_0131

Eulises Torres’ Honda S2000 with custom Work VS-TXs which have been re-barreled and polished by Wheelflip…

IMG_0187

These wheels were being built around the same time my Equips were getting done at Wheelflip but I had no idea it was going to end up on this S2K…

IMG_0171

Lips even have the Wheelflip logo etched into them…

IMG_0133

Clean Civic from Long Beach with EK4 bumpers and BBS RS wheels…

IMG_0135

Another red S2000, this one on SSR Varden Sport Schwarz wheels, with custom gold faces… Pretty rare set of wheels that are often overlooked..

IMG_0138

Interesting stuff going on under the hood with the clear radiator plumbing and customized intake arm…

IMG_0140

Always liked the classic styling on this S13 hatch with 180SX Type-X aero…

IMG_0143

Seemed pretty insignificant at the time I took this photo but this is probably the last photo I’ll ever take of James’s Prelude as I found out today that the car was totalled in a major accident today. James is alright but it’s a real bummer to see a fellow enthusiast lose a project because of an unavoidable occurrence…

IMG_0145

His buddy’s Y33 Q45 with Work Gnosis wheels and JDM Grand Touring front grille, headlights, bumper and lip…

IMG_0149

R35 GTR rocking a Wald Black Bison aero kit…

IMG_0151

The always recognizable magenta G35 coupe from Import Fashion…

IMG_0153

Jose Romo’s Audi was sporting a new set of white SSR Professor SP3s…

IMG_0155

Seen this Camry cruise around before and finally got a chance to see it up close at the Spocom pre-meet… Not a bad look on the Enkei RPF1s…just wish his front fenders weren’t chewed up like that…

IMG_0156

Lexus ES300 slammed on some Eurolines… Again, not a bad look at all…

IMG_0158

Silver EK on Sprint Hart CP-Rs…

IMG_0163

Don’t know this lady’s name but she was reppin’ for Drive Energy Drink, which is distributed by M7Japan….

IMG_0166

..and another one…

IMG_0172

EF on Mugen MR-5s and JDM front bumper…+14 street cred points for rocking a Chronicles sticker…

IMG_0176

Civic with EK4 SiR conversion and Mugen RnRs… even has the interior too, nice job…

IMG_0175

The RnRs look to have been chromed…

IMG_0177

This 4-door was really clean… Loved how straight the body was and how everything fit well. SSR mesh wheels aren’t my favorite on Hondas but it’s not a bad look…

IMG_0178

“I hate to watch them go but hamburger cheesecakes and weed”…or however that saying goes…haha…

IMG_0180

Maya Michelle Rew…

IMG_0181

I am terrible with names… I walked over to say what’s up to Denny and Nilo from DaYUUM! and they introduced me but her name totally escapes me now. What’s sad is that I remember overhearing her conversation with them talking about how she bought those shorts from Target. Of course I remember some random information like that but totally disregard the name…haha…

IMG_0183

Thought this AE86 coupe was pretty nice…

I hung out for a little bit more and then took off to go resume my regular Sunday. I know it isn’t a whole lot of photos but it shouldn’t reflect the event in any way. The turnout was good and everyone looked to be having a good time. There were a bunch of vendors as well as a number of food trucks on hand. It was a good time. Thanks for looking, make sure to check back tomorrow for some awesome news!…
