Wekfest Texas 2012 Coverage…Part 4 of 4…The Conclusion…

Happy Monday all… Today we’re gonna take a look at the final concluding portion of The Chronicles’ 2012 Wekfest Texas coverage. Hope you guys are ready for some photos and to have your phones bricked because Part 4 of 4 features the largest collection of photos from the Wekfest TX event. Reasoning behind this is because of the number of photos remaining. If I divided it into two parts, the two would end up with smaller batches of photos than I would like and I would rather have that extra day so we can jump into the other stuff I have to show you guys. I know it’s been slow for the last couple of weeks but things are definitely picking up. I have a bunch of shit to show you guys from Type_K Autosource’s “Kday” event in Japan as well as a very solid collection of shots from the Slammed Society Japan event that happened last weekend. There are some pretty interesting builds from Japan and I’m excited to show you guys the latest from our Japanese friends. After that we have the Race Day 2 event coming up this weekend and following that, I will be hosting the Year.IV Chronicles’ Anniversary meet. It’s getting busy again and the week following is the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas. To say that things are picking up towards the end of 2012 is definitely an understatement…Add that on top of regular everyday work and the plate is getting pretty full, if you know what I mean. I think Formula D is coming up too and if I have some time for that I’ll try to squeeze that in as well…

Even with all the upcoming events, we can’t forget about how great Wekfest Texas was. This last batch of photos will cover the rest of the cars that I had time to capture, the awards, and whatever else we had going on that weekend in Austin, Texas. Once again, I have to thank Adam, Ken, Junior, William, ATS Mike Jones and everyone from the Wekfest group for putting this all together and giving me the opportunity to go out there with them to experience this show. Everything could not have gone better and it is one of those trips that I will always remember. I’m glad I got to share a room with my boy Mike Jones and all the random shit we did that weekend. It was a blast and I look forward to doing it once again…

With that said, let’s recap the previous three portions of coverage with links to each, just in case you guys happen to have missed any of it last week…

Wekfest Texas 2012 Coverage…Part 1…

Wekfest Texas 2012 Coverage…Part 2…

Wekfest Texas 2012 Coverage…Part 3…

All good? Alright, let’s roll through part 4 of 4…

Couldn’t leave Texas without getting one more shot of Thomas Pinai’s Mode Parfume GS400…this guy once again took top honors at Wekfest Texas and won the “KING OF THE SOUTH” aka overall best of show award. Definitely deserving of all the credit in the world because this is one of those VIP builds that could compete at any import event anywhere in the world and probably could place. It is just one of those special builds that you have to see in person. The level of quality and attention to detail throughout the car is something that I think every enthusiast can appreciate and really shines a bright spotlight on the U.S. VIP community.. Congrats to him for earning his accolades with hard work…

IMG_4521-Edit

I had the wrong settings on my camera for this shot so it looks like it was taken during a fucking Hot Import Nights event or something but it wouldn’t be a Wekfest event without the female face behind the event series, Ms. Elissa Alva… ATS Mike Jones with the creep in the back…

IMG_4496-Edit

Very unique Infiniti G20/Nissan Primera build…These cars are often one of the most overlooked platforms to build upon and they are actually very good cars. The Primera is a chassis that was once heavily involved in various Japanese racing series in the 90’s and they even came with Nissan’s non-turbo SR20DE… Pretty cool car that just never got the footing it should have here in the U.S. It makes me smile every time I see one of these modded because they are a rare breed…

IMG_4502-Edit

Jeremy Hancock’s VIP Honda Odyssey…very well-built Honda that won an award at last year’s Wekfest Texas event…

IMG_4503-Edit

Accord coupe from Fat Cats sitting on some TSW Lodrinas…

IMG_4504-Edit

Zenki S14 looking very raw on Work Emitz wheels…

IMG_4505-Edit

Edward Torres’ Hypnotic Teal Mica Honda S2000 w/OEM hardtop on some really aggressive Work VS-XXs…

IMG_4500-Edit

Also couldn’t leave Texas without another shot of the Futura Designs’ LS430…

IMG_4497-Edit

Living the simplicity of the trunk… When I finally get around to doing my trunk set-up, I’ll probably be aiming for something similar to this…

IMG_4501-Edit

Always been a huge fan of the ever-classic OZ Futura wheel, this one of the step-lipped variety…

IMG_4509-Edit

350Z from “Bottom Out” crew on white SSR Professor SP1s…

IMG_4510-Edit

Another Z from “Bottom Out”, this one on Gram Lights 57s-Pro wheels…

IMG_4512-Edit

IMG_4515-Edit

A couple more of Fernando Huerta’s authentic Mugen del Sol… I absolutely loved this build and that’s why I selected it as the 1st Place Best Honda of Wekfest TX…

IMG_4513-Edit

IMG_4514-Edit

Another great Honda build at the Texas event was Jorge Torres’ del Sol from Team 5star…Loved the execution of the engine bay…

IMG_4541-Edit

Infiniti G37 sitting aggressively on Luxury Abstract Stella-X wheels… Still undecided on whether or not I like this line of wheels but props for trying something different…

IMG_4542-Edit

Loved the candy red on this Z33…WED’s Kranze Cerberus II wheels rarely look good on anything but it works on this Z…

IMG_4545-Edit

Mike Gutierrez’s custom FG2 Honda Civic coupe build… Interesting utilization of the Mugen RR replica bumper molded to fit the coupe chassis along with the custom sheet metal widebody. Definitely not for everyone’s tastes but you gotta give the guy credit for building practically the entire car, inside and out, on his own…

IMG_4547-Edit

Absolutely loved this custom sheet-metal widebody Infiniti G35 coupe from Team 16niss… This car has it all; custom audio, custom body work and paint, boost VQ motor, air suspension, the list goes on. Great execution of the custom widebody and how it still flows with the original lines of the G-coupe. Gotta be one of the top G35s in the nation….

IMG_4548-Edit

Cool slammed BMW E28 from Team 16niss…

IMG_4550-Edit

Dennis Meriel’s NSX from 16niss with rarely-used Do-Luck front bumper…

IMG_4553-Edit

BRG’s “Pandora One”-inspired Nissan 350Z…

IMG_4554-Edit

Another Z33 from BRG, this one on ultra-aggressive SSR Viennas…

IMG_4555-Edit

DPE ST-5 on this 350Z…

IMG_4556-Edit

One more of Rami Qasem’s S2000…

IMG_4557-Edit

Brian Davis’ Civic hatchback from car club “Low-Weezy-Ana”…

IMG_4559-Edit

Tony Bui’s Lexus SC300 with custom purple paint, T&E Vertex aero, and WED’s Kranze LXZ…

IMG_4560-Edit

VW Golf bagged on Image F40 wheels…

IMG_4562-Edit

Mike McCollum’s Evo X on WEDsport SA55Ms..

IMG_4561-Edit

Gangnam Style FA5 Civic on CCW Classics…

IMG_4563-Edit

IMG_4564-Edit

Richard Cayetano’s sick AWD Eclipse build…I rarely see Eclipses built anymore after being a fan of the chassis as a kid but it is cool that there are still some guys out there willing to take a chance and producing cars like this one… Great job…

IMG_4565-Edit

Clean BMW M3 cab that caught my eye…

IMG_4567-Edit

Blue Z33 with a set of Work Euroline wheels…

IMG_4568-Edit

Emotion’s Top Secret turbocharged C-West Honda CR-Z, which won the 2nd Place honors in the Honda Class at Wekfest TX…

IMG_4572-Edit

IMG_4573-Edit

A pair of Infinit M sedans, both on VIP Modular wheels, both from Team 16niss…

IMG_4574-Edit

Lexus IS on a refinished set of purple Work VS wheels with gold hardware…

IMG_4575-Edit

E90 BMW with a set of polished Work Brombacher/VS-XX wheels…

IMG_4577-Edit

Khiem Pham’s 2JZ-swapped FD3S RX-7 from MayDay Garage…Didn’t get a chance to get a shot of his bay since I caught him as he was getting ready to leave…

IMG_4578-Edit

E36 M3 BMW looking good on older BBS RF wheels…

IMG_4579-Edit

Infiniti G37 coupe with Top Secret-style front bumper made either by AIT or 180custom….

IMG_4583-Edit

Stopped for a moment to check-out this Toyota Yaris from Team 16niss. May has a Yaris and we’ve been thinking about doing some minor things to it here and there…

IMG_4585-Edit

Older 5-series BMW slammed on SSR Vienna Kreis…

IMG_4586-Edit

I made the mistake in thinking that while in Texas at a car show, I’d run into a ton of big booty ratchet-ass hoes but that definitely was not the case…The only girls I saw were either people’s girlfriends or looked like they were on a field trip from highschool…I guess we were just in the wrong part of TX, haha…

IMG_4520-Edit

Junior from Wekfest on the mic thanking the crowd for attending Wekfest Texas and announcing the award winners at the show…

IMG_4526-Edit

A look at one of the most organized crowds that I have ever seen at a show. Everybody was quiet when it came to announcements and very patient the entire day….

IMG_4529-Edit

A quick glimpse at the awards, both of these were the 3rd place awards in the Acura and Honda classes…

IMG_4535-Edit

There’s a lot going on in this photo but the story behind this was the guy that ended up winning the award was a huge fan of Elissa Alva’s and didn’t even care to win as long as he got a hug and photo with her…I thought it was a cool candid moment to capture from behind the awards table…

IMG_4581-Edit

Congrats to Ahobbs Racing for building a car that is not only fast as shit, but also built well enough to compete at a car show… He went on to win Wekfest’s “Import of the Festival”…

That was pretty much it for the show itself. After the awards ended, we hung out for a bit while we waited for everyone to leave the building. Then we chatted with a couple of our friends from Texas before heading back to the hotel to rest. We gathered the troops and then drove down to a local Tex-Mex spot called Curra’s Grill. The food was decent but the service took fucking forever so we were beat after that. I hung out for a bit and then watched some ESPN to catch-up on NFL scores from that Sunday and fell asleep. The next morning ATS Mike Jones and I packed up our luggage pretty early and walked about 5 feet over from the hotel…

IMG_4592-Edit

…to this chromed-out Denny’s next door…

IMG_4588-Edit

Since everyone was still getting ready, Mike and I ordered some breakfast. I got this “Meat Lover’s Omelette” which had like a fucking steak in it, every kind of other meat imaginable, and a thick layer of cheese over it… It was good but my tracks were definitely greased, haha…

IMG_4596-Edit

After we finished eating, we walked outside and met up with the rest of the Wekfest staff and loaded-up the two SUVs we had rented. There was a couple of hours left until our flight late in the afternoon so we all decided to head over to South Congress Ave. to see what Austin had to offer…

IMG_4597-Edit

They had a couple of different shops down there but the spot that caught our eyes was this old school soda fountain/candy store…

IMG_4599-Edit

I wanted to make sure to get something for May while I was out in Texas so I grabbed a couple bags of sour candy that she would probably like while everyone else bought stuff for friends and family…

IMG_4604-Edit

Junior and Mike Jones on South Congress Ave…

IMG_4605-Edit

Jones’ lobster ice cream…(not really)…

IMG_4608-Edit

We did some more exploring and saw this old school bus that was converted to a sandwich truck… I knew food trucks were huge here in Los Angeles but didn’t know they had a following in Texas. I’m not gonna lie, I don’t keep track of current events in Texas, haha…

IMG_4610-Edit

Appropriately named the “Short Bus”…not sure whether or not they sell Derp Sandwiches…

IMG_4607-Edit

We had already eaten an hour early so we weren’t hungry but the rest of the group was so we stopped at the South Congress Cafe for grub…

IMG_4614-Edit

I didn’t plan on eating so a couple of us just hung out at the bar and grabbed some drinks. I don’t always drink beer but when I do, I honestly do drinK Dos Equis… It’s been a favorite beer of mine since my failed college years, haha…

IMG_4615-Edit

I forgot what they were drinking but I believe it was an Amaretto and orange juice…

After they finished eating, we realized that we had to bring the rental cars back earlier than we remembered so we made our way to the Austin-Bergstrom International airport…

There was still a chunk of time before our flights departed so we hung out by the food court near our gate. Many locals had told us about how great this BBQ spot called “The Salt Lick” was so some of the guys gave it a shot. This is Mike Jones’ tri-tip/sausage plate. I was hungry by that point but didn’t want to risk having to drop a massive deuce on the plane so I just hung out and watched them eat…

Everyone one of them was flying back to Norcal and I was heading back to Socal, but our flights were set to leave at essentially the same time. By 5pm, it was time to depart so I said bye to everyone and hopped on my flight…

IMG_4619-Edit

A final shot from Austin, Texas…A good bye and thank you to all the people that came to Wekfest TX…

IMG_4622-Edit

Flying the friendly skies on the way back to Cali…

That’s a wrap… Thanks for looking and hope you all enjoyed the 4-part mini-series of coverage from Wekfest TX 2012…
