I was packing up some stickers and shirts for the Tactical Art guys this week when I remembered that I had some photos that Yasutaka from Tactical Art sent me awhile back. He always sends me a huge bundle of photos at once and it takes me some time to go through them all and edit them for the site. With so many events going on lately, I just hadn’t had the time to go through them and just plain forgot about them. Now that we have a couple weeks free of event coverage content, I can finally put these up on the site for you guys to see. If you follow The Chronicles, then you probably know about our good friends from Tactical Art based out of Osaka, Japan. I’ve come to know these guys well and after visiting them last January while on my trip to Japan for Tokyo Auto Salon, I wanted to make sure that I got to see the finished product of their builds. Back in January, their shop was filled to the brim with cars and car parts as they were getting ready to rebuild their entire fleet of Hondas. The only Hondas that were in a completed state at that time for Taku Kusugami’s EK and Toshiyuki Yanagi’s Integra Type R, both of which were featured in Super Street magazine the past two years. Yasutaka Shimomukai, the one responsible for documenting all these builds with his camera, has a EG6 build in progress too but his was the last on the list as they still had to finish Atuki’s EG6, Sasaki’s Civic Ferio, and the car you’re looking at today, Kazuya Kawashima’s EG9 Ferio. Kawashima’s was particularly interesting because at the time I was visiting, it was the only 4-door there that was being built and it had a full roll cage. I had no idea Kawashima even had this car since I’ve always remembered him having a Honda Stepwgn. I guess he wanted to join in on the fun too and have a Civic of his own and picked up this Ferio. Atuki is the mastermind behind all their builds and not only does the engine work, but all the cage/metal work, as well as most of the paint work. The guy does it all and he is definitely talented in many aspects…

Today, we are going to be looking exclusively at Kawashima’s Civic build. It may seem a bit confusing since you saw his car previously on this site in a randomly assembled state but this photo set will cover most of the build from start to finish. There was nothing really crazy about this Civic before, unlike the others that were previously built already. It was just a stock Civic Ferio basically and just had some Mugen wheels on it. Atuki tore the whole car down and began the rebuild process. I know many of you will not like the whole “stance” approach that he has taken but it’s a popular look overseas and I understand why they decided to go with this style. The Tactical Art guys are also very big fans of American tuning culture and while some of them have taken to the whole custom engine bay/full track car style, some are also into the aggressive wheel fitment/stance look. I myself prefer the track car style but hey, to each their own. These guys are cool dudes and I appreciate the work that they put in. That above all else is more important than any specific genre or style of building. Enjoy the photos below, if not, I don’t mind that either…

Exclusive Content: A Look At Atuki’s EG6 Build From Tactical Art…

There aren’t too many photos as his build is pretty simple. It was basically stripped down, a custom cage was created, the entire chassis repainted, and then they swapped in a B16B motor. Everything else is your run of the mill stuff mixed with some custom metal work by Atuki from Tactical Art….

I don’t recommend any one doing this out in the open because it’s generally bad for the environment but here Atuki is re-spraying the engine bay in a custom “Tactical Art Grey” tone which is inspired by the classic battleship grey look….

While that was going on, Atuki also found time to paint the B-series valve cover and re-install it onto Kawashima’s B16B….

Old factory engine mounts will be replaced with Hasport mounts…

If you were to timeline all of these photos and put them in sequence, this post would go first in front of Atuki’s EG6 build as well as Sasaki’s build. You can tell because you can clearly see here that the cage has yet to go onto Atuki’s EG6 (Civic to the right)….

After the paint in the engine bay settled, the steering rack and cross member were re-installed…

The CTR motor was then dropped into the freshly-sprayed bay…

Fuel system assembled with a Golden Eagle rail and AEM FPR…

Paint is laid down on the custom cage…

Only thing left to do before the chassis is sent off to a bodyshop for an exterior re-spray is to coat the floor of the Ferio…

Atuki does most of his work like this confined to tight spaces in the shop since his shop isn’t too big…

The next set of photos comes after the chassis is returned from paint. Unlike the interior and engine bay, the exterior paint is not done in-house and is sent off to a bodyshop where they adequately prep and paint the chassis….

The Civic as it looked the day it was unloaded off the trailer and returned after it’s brand new paint job. Kawashima decided to really change things up and had the car redone in a rich candy red paint…

It was then pushed back into the shop where re-assembly began…

He went with a brushed metal face with a high-polished step-lip…

Fresh interior also means that its time to put a brand new Bride bucket seat in there as well…

Everything else consists mainly of re-assembly but since the interior is completely gutted, there isn’t a whole lot to put back in other than the dashboard and plugging in all the electrical stuff…

The car was completed a couple months back but there aren’t too many finished photos of it floating around. I’ll have to get some more from Yasutaka when he has time. They seem pretty busy over there between the business side and attending events and what not…
