To be totally honest with you, when I first started visiting Japan over a decade ago, I never fathomed that one day I would own an EK9 Civic Type R in Japan. It just never seemed realistic to me. So to say that I have one now is still a bit surreal. When I found out that we had the opportunity to display the CTR at Osaka Auto Messe, it all sounded even crazier. To have a car we put together at one of Japan’s biggest car shows was an unexpected addition and checkmark on my bucket list!

The plan was to have my EK9 and Yasu’s FL5 Type R together at Osaka Auto Messe but Yasu received an unexpected call from Rays a couple weeks before the show. They wanted to use his FL5 for their display to showcase the new CE28N-Plus SL wheel so that left us with an open spot. We decided that it would be fun to finally finish the Mintia EK race car for the show. The engine was tired and needed to be swapped anyway after years of one-make race duty, plus the interior needed a refresh. Why not just take this traditional Honda race car and give it a bit of love. There was only about a week to get it all done, what could go wrong?…
