As a big Rays Wheels guy, I went back to Japan this time to go check-out their “Rays Fan Meeting” event in Okayama. All cars on anything from their catalog past and present are invited to attend, park with others and hang out with fellow Rays-lovers. They had some cool display cars and vendors but I went because I wanted to see builds that I’ve never seen before. It was the perfect opportunity because I’d also never been to Okayama International Circuit before. Everything was gonna feel new. More importantly, it put me outside of the car show environment where I typically see the same cars year-to-year. I went in with no expectations and was definitely greeted with cars I hadn’t been exposed to previously…

Loved this 80Supra with full Ridox aero paired with a VeilSide C1 wing. It also had full custom audio and interior as well…

A good representation of a time in the early 2000s when you would see Supras like this ripping through the Tokyo Wangan…

This AE86 Trueno Black Limited later won an award at the end of the day. I wasn’t sure if it was truly a Black Limited or not but after posting photos of it on Instagram, the owner actually commented saying it was indeed the real deal…

Custom refinished Volk Racing 84C aero discs to match the color scheme of the Black Limited…

My favorite from the Rays event was this very period-correct 80Supra with a full C-West half-lip kit sitting nice and low. Love the really flat, low-mount Top Secret trunk spoiler too…

Rare to see a set of these 90s-era Volk Challenge F-Zero wheels these days. A very ambitious design that never saw much evolution beyond this point…

When was the last time you saw a set of Volk Racing SE37W? Yes “W”. If you haven’t seen them before, they came out during the same time period when the TE, CE, SE37K, and GT-N was released. They don’t pop-up very often these days because they never really caught on in popularity, mostly due to how unusual they looked. As I mentioned in the Vlog episode, they look like sink drains. Or maybe even a KBBQ grill…

Despite their quirky appearance, some do enjoy them as witnessed above with a incredibly clean set mounted on a Suzuki Swift. Two things you wouldn’t expect to work together but perhaps two quirky things combined make for one cool thing?…

This isn’t on Rays wheels but over on the Formula Drift side of the event, they had the RSR 80Supra once piloted by Manabu “Max” Orido…

A close second favorite would be this slammed Nissan March on 14-inch concave TE37 in bronze with a meaty Dunlop Direzza wrapped around it. It had a set of Bride seats and a Saito cage along with an extra TE in the passenger seat…

Another really cool Nissan March, this one was slammed on 15-in 8-spoke CE28N. When it comes to the CE28, the 10-spoke is the better-looking variation but on small cars like the March, the 8-spoke looks good, especially with a fat tire…

It’s been a while but it was good to see the J’s Racing “Touge Maou” S2000 again from the famed Hot Version videos. The car doesn’t do much these days but it still looks very much the same. The engine bay still features the TODA Sports Injection Kit along with the J’s Tsuchinoko intake set-up all-wrapped in gold heat foil tape….

It’s hard to tell in the photos but the car is starting to show its age, which is expected after all these years. The livery is shrinking and there’s obvious wear and tear from all the time it spent competing with the FEED RX-7 in all those Hot Version videos…

Still incredibly cool to see this S2000 together. It’s such a ridiculous-looking build in the absolute coolest way possible…

There was a good amount of FD2Rs that showed-up too. This was a nice silver one with J’s Racing front lip, side skirts and staggered Volk CE28N…

That’s all for this one. Make sure to watch the Vlog if you haven’t seen it yet. It provides so much more information and other cars from the Rays Fan Meeting. I finally figured out what the issue was creating all the broken image links. Everything should be completely functional now! Enjoy the archives! Thanks for looking!…
