Our Weekends Are Loaded With Hondas… CHRNCLS Vlog 2021 #6…

As things begin to open back up slowly, I’m reminded of just how much of our weekends are consumed with Hondas—but in a great way! On this episode, we continue to follow the progress on Ryan Der’s EK build as he finalizes his interior floor harness and adds power accessories to the Civic. Hatchbacks of that generation never came with power windows so it was one of his main objectives to add it with OEM components he sourced from wrecking yards. While that was going on, Phil’s S2000 made its return to the shop so that Yuta could do some repairs to it in preparation for a local drift event at Willow Springs. Our friend Gary from Auto Factory Realize wanted to test out the car to see what it felt like to have a drifting-oriented set-up on an S2000 since he had one of his own. The day after that, Der and I stop by the Doghouse Garage meet to support our fellow car enthusiasts. There were some pretty nice builds that showed-up and we found some time to just relax and chat with friends. This might be the best-looking Vlog of the season so far and I hope you enjoy it!! Make sure to stop by for the Premiere as well so you can chat with us while we watch the new episode!

Doghouse Garage Meet 2021 Coverage…

It seems like there is something going on every weekend these days out here in Southern California. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing, because people seem to be staying safe and what not, but I do find myself just a little bit reluctant at times to be out and about too often, if that makes sense. I think maybe just being a little bit older now I’m just more precautious. When I was young, I’d probably just say ‘fuck it’ and go to everything. The want for content would triumph my own best interests at times and I’ve adjusted my expectations over the years. The only reason I’d go to something now is to either support my friends or other car enthusiasts who have supported friends in the past. It’s more for relationship building and seeing people now than just trying to flood the feed with photos…

Classic Hondas, Special Guests & More Build Updates!! CHRNCLS Vlog 2021 #5…

Oh boy, this is a jam-packed episode!! Cody needed to finish the livery on his FD2-converted Civic SI so he stops by to use our vinyl cutter. Somehow that turned into an entire night of hanging out with some friends and Ken Suen comes by to talk his usual shit. For whatever reason he has a MoTec display in his daily now and we try to figure out why. A few days after that, Der and I stop by a couple of car meets to check-out the latest in Southern California car culture. Things are opening back up now and there seems to be a car meet every week! Back at the shop, Der does more random stuff to his new EK build and Yuta is hard at work doing a Kaaz LSD install into our friend Gary’s S2000 from Auto Factory Realize. This one is loaded with content and you’ll even see some special guests pop-in to chat. Enjoy!!

Can It Be Real?…

Can It Be Real?…

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more real—it’s definitely still NOT real, lol. When I randomly came up with the idea to create a SNES game box a few days ago, I had no idea it’d be so well-received. I honestly thought people would think it’s kinda corny but maybe that’s exactly what we need right now. A little bit of nostalgia to remind us of our childhoods never hurts, I guess. So I took it a step further and created the intro for this imaginary Chronicles video game that must actually exist somewhere in an alternate dimension. I took some old photos I shot from the past, did some cool 16-bit-style stuff to it, added some assets I found from around the web and turned on the game for the first time, haha. I’m currently in the process of producing more game boxes for those who want to have one as a keepsake. It makes for a cool collectible/art-piece for the enthusiasts who support The Chronicles. Hope you like it!!…

The Chronicles ‘Highway Attack Challenge’ in 16-Bit…

Anyone that knows me will tell you that I enjoy collecting things, especially if they are nostalgic and/or remind me of my childhood. I grew up in the ‘90s and a lot of my time was spent playing Super Nintendo. It was always so cool to go to the store and see new games come out and holding them in your hand after they were taken out from behind the display case. Just seeing all the boxes and the box art was so cool. Lately I’ve been trying to consistently be in a creative space so one day I decided to create something that had a mix of both my childhood and what I do as an adult now. I thought it’d be cool to imagine The Chronicles as an SNES Racing video game. It’s completely unrealistic because the eras don’t match-up, nor would a game ever have these types of features or graphics but the main thing I wanted to do was create the box art for this imaginary game.

More Goodies For Der’s EK, Cody’s Civic Gets Aero & The Illest Car Meet!! CHRNCLS Vlog 2021 #4…

Cody recently got all his aero painted and put on his FA5 Civic SI so he stopped by the shop to show us. He seemed pretty excited about it which was unusual for him so we had to see the car for ourselves. Meanwhile, the guys from RCompound USA mounted some tires on Der’s temporary RS Watanabe wheels so he could install them on his EK. Once the wheels were on, we quickly realized that the car had to be lowered some more. A week later, we make a stop at Rodeo Public Market yet again for the Illest Pop-up and Car Show to check-out some cars and we finally get to see the new Volk Racing 21C wheel in-person.

It seems that these days during these strange times, I’m either at the shop, at home, or at Rodeo Public Market for a car meet. Admittedly, I don’t get out as much these days for obvious reasons, but whenever there is something going on that is car-related down in Stanton, California, I’ll try to be there for it. It’s just a good central location to see some car stuff where my friends and I can meet up for a little bit to shoot the shit. I’m always looking for good content as well for the Vlogs and the car meets that are hosted there usually offer some pretty decent builds. Variety is also good too so you’ll see a little bit of everything at the Brekkie gatherings. While I was at the last event, my buddy Mark invited me to the Illest Pop-Up and Car Meet. They were set to drop some new merchandise and wanted to have a car meet at Rodeo Public Market since everyone was already pretty familiar with the locale. I hit up Der to see if he wanted to meet me there before we came back to the shop to work on his Civic and he had a roll of film to finish off anyway. We didn’t stay very long since Der was waiting for someone to drop off some parts he had purchased at the shop but I did manage to get some photos and video in the brief time we were there. Unlike the Brekkie meets which happen in the early mornings, this event was held during the late afternoon so it provided some pretty great lighting for photos.

I don’t know if you guys are enjoying these regular updates or not but there’s been plenty more work at the shop lately so I thought I’d keep you guys up-to-date. Der said he wanted to get some different wheels to roll around on since he didn’t want the car on steelies much longer so I went digging around one night and found him a set of wheels on Upgarage. This Civic is going to be a long process with a slow build-up so getting some wheels are just the beginning. Before that, we took a morning to go and check-out the latest Brekkie Car Club gathering. The meet is pretty new but is starting to pick-up a good amount of steam as it seems to be growing every time there’s a new one. We also mess with Der’s cup-holder for half the episode.

I’d like to say that we’ve changed because we’re starting to build newer cars but then we realized that cars like the FA5 Civic SI is already old and it just caught up to us in age. Whatever the case may be, we still get just as excited for our friends when their cars come together and we get to see how happy they are with the fruits of their labor. Cody Chan has been loading up on parts for a while now and his daily is looking pretty cool. I’m happy for him cuz he hasn’t been this excited about cars in awhile. That feeling when you can look at your car and just have this sense of joy knowing it came out how you wanted it to—it just hits different…

Brekkie Sunday Service January 2021 Photos…

I didn’t originally intend to take photos of these events before because I had only been to one prior, and wasn’t aware at that time that it would become an event I would go to regularly. And by ‘regularly’ I mean I’ve been to TWO. Lol. But I captured some pretty good photos so I thought I’d compile them here and start posting more photos from these gatherings whenever I go since there are some interesting cars that show-up. The Brekkie Car Club “Sunday Service” events are just meets held every few weeks (usually on Sundays) at Rodeo 39 Public Market. It’s a new food spot down in Stanton, California at the plot of land that used to house the one and only Super Autobacs in the USA. Autobacs shut down years ago and because of the bad economy during that period, the entire area and surrounding businesses suffered. Most of them shut down and eventually that land just became sort of abandoned, other than the DMV, which took over the massive defunct Autobacs facility to service the state of California. Eventually the DMV shut down as well and the entire area was completely leveled and reborn to what it is today. Rodeo 39 launch recently but because of the ongoing ‘thing’ that’s affected our world, it hasn’t seen the type of outpouring of business they had expected during development. So people who are associated with Rodeo 39 decided to start hosting events there to bring people to the local business hub and provide a safe space for car enthusiasts to congregate. My friend Jonathan Wong started telling me about these meets and I decided to go see it for myself. The most recent one was pretty big. Way bigger than I thought it would be because the first event I attended was a decent size, but I wouldn’t say it was ‘packed’. This last one was pretty packed. To the point where I think people that didn’t know about the meet were annoyed because so many car enthusiasts had packed the lot. Even with the amount of people there, it didn’t seem too sketchy as everyone abided by the rules to wear masks and stay generally 6-feet away from one another. They tried their hardest. I still get nervous about being out and about with a bunch of people but I stuck around and tried to experience the meet the best I could. I wish I had taken more photos, to be honest, because the day before we had some rain which always makes photos look good with the water reflecting light off the ground.
