If you guys are here looking for epic Formula D coverage, my apologies because I couldn’t make it out there to cover it over the weekend. Instead, we’re gonna be heading over to Japan once again to check out coverage from our buddy Takeshi Kobayashi’s “Kday!!” Season 2 event. Takeshi is a great friend of mine that comes over a couple times over here to the states for business and we always try to find some time to hang out with him. He has a great appreciation for the Honda community over here and is often arranging his business trips around major events over here so he can be at the events with us. Last year, he decided to organize his own event back at home and called it “Kday!!” after his business, “Type_K Autosource”. The event is centered around the Honda community, with USDM-style in mind, and also includes a variety of all types of builds. The USDM scene over there is flourishing and there are many Hondas over there these days that are modeled after some of the Honda builds over here. While Takeshi is responsible for importing a lot of our U.S. goods back to the states, he’s always been a true car head and does a great job of mixing classic Japanese  style with a little bit of U.S. influence…

For the second year in a row, Takeshi has brought his Kday event back to the Sportsland Sugo Park in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The layout would be much of the same but the expected turnout was anticipated to be bigger than Season 1 and enthusiasts from all over Japan came out to support Takeshi. I asked him how the event went a couple days later and he said he was really happy with the turnout and how everything went that day. He mentioned that he was a bit worried in the days leading up to the event because there was supposed to be a storm headed that way but never came to fruition. The weather ended up being beautiful that day and as you will see in the photos, the backdrop to his event looked very picturesque. I wanted to show my support for Takeshi and Kday as well so I helped him design one of the official decals for the event and also asked that he find someone who could do some coverage so I could post up some shots from the show. I didn’t really expect anything but he actually got another pretty well-known guy in the Japanese Honda community, Shota Mori, to cover the entire event for me. Mori-san, for those that don’t know, is one of the few CA Accord enthusiasts out there and his Accord is pretty well recognized all over the world. He is also into photography as a hobby and covers various events for his own website “from JPN” (www.jdm-usdm.com). I’ve followed his stuff for a long time now because I have always taken an active interest in what goes on over in Japan. Mori seems to be everywhere all the time and as you will see, takes some very good shots. The only problem I’ve run into over time from viewing Japanese websites and blogs is that the photos are awfully small. I don’t know why that works that way for Japanese sites because I’ve always thought that guys like Mori-san should have their photos in large format so people could appreciate the quality of their work. Once I heard that Shota Mori was covering Kday for me, I was excited to see what he would come up with…

One thing that was totally unexpected was that Mori-san met up with Kazuhiro Furukawa and friends from Car Craft Boon!/OsakaJDM. I guess they decided to meet up to caravan with one another since the drive from where they were coming from was over 4 hours long. I believe Shota is about 4 hours away and Furukawa from CCB was making the trip from Osaka. In any case, it was cool to see them together because I didn’t even know those guys were familiar with each other and here are pics of them hanging out and what not…

Season 2 coverage but there were a couple of other cars that I spotted from our other Japanese friend, Koji Karimata’s, coverage from Kday that I really wanted to show you guys so I have included a third additional part to showcase some other cars that Mori didn’t capture.  I know it’s confusing with all the Japanese names but if you follow the site regularly, you should probably know who these guys are by now.
