Year.IV Anniversary Meet Coverage…Part 3 of 3…


I hope you guys are ready for a giant blast of photos because part 3 of 3 of the Year.IV coverage is the biggest of the series. There are probably enough photos to separate them into two separate posts but I just feel like keeping them all together gives the post more consistency than dividing them in half. This way you guys get a better feel of what went on that day and what we did after. It was a long day but a great one and we did manage to find time even after the event ended to hang out with one another. Quality time with good people is of the utmost importance to me and that’s why you always get a big chunk of the “lifestyle” aspect of what goes on around here. Cars are great but without amazing people, it means nothing…

The final portion of our three-part coverage is probably my favorite one. These photos feature a lot of what went out during the later part of the event and the photos are also slightly better because the sun had begin to set, producing better shots overall. I also really enjoy shooting towards the end of every event because there is no more stress at the end of the day, a lot of spectators have already left, and the cars are more scattered apart since a lot of them had departed along with the spectators. There is almost a bit of peace at the end of every event. I like experiencing that and being able to get whatever shots I want because I don’t have to worry about people stumbling into the photos. I think you guys will notice that the pics are a bit better than in part 2, and some of my favorite shots from the day are included in this post…

As I stated in Part 1, having our Japanese friends out in the U.S. for Year.IV was one of, if not THE highlight of the day. It’s such a humbling feeling knowing that people from the other parts of the world are willing to take the time to come out and experience my anniversary event. Not only that, they also came bearing gifts as if I was doing them a favor or something. It’s just amazing. I was overjoyed to be able to spend the day with them and then hang out with them the following week at SEMA 2012. I can honestly say that it took me more than a couple of days to recover from the intense grind of work, the Year.IV event, an entire week in Vegas for SEMA, and then the VIP Festival in San Diego, but it’s totally worth it if I can get everyone together. I think after you guys see all that we did this past week and a half, you’ll realize how much we do and how much we care about the people around us…

With that said, allow me to personally thank Ryan Hoegner and Eibach Springs for providing me with the venue to do this event. This is my third year doing it at Eibach Springs and it is the perfect venue. Especially now since the Eibach Honda Meet has outgrown this facility, it’s almost turned into an exclusive venue for The Chronicles and for the supporters of the site….

By this time, it was close to 5pm so I decided to get everyone together to announce the awards for the day. Again, the awards weren’t meant to be anything serious so if people didn’t care about them, it didn’t really bother me. I just wanted to present some awards to some builds that I really enjoyed that day. Like last year, I had Holly Lee present the awards to the winners and brought Emma Rose in for some photo op’s…

Winner of the Year.IV “Most Improved Build” award went to Teddy Timoteo and his white EK hatchback. He’s had this car for a long time now and I’ve seen it go through many different stages. I can’t say I was always a fan of everything he did to the car but I think right now, his build is at its prime and looking better than it ever has with the paint-matched First Molding front lip and Sprint Hart CP-Rs… Congrats to Teddy for sticking with one car and constantly trying to improve…

The “Best Non-Honda” award went to Chris Ortez and his white Infiniti G35 sedan. He deserved the award because he had one of the most well-rounded builds there with a ton of attention to detail throughout. I’m a big fan of this G35 and its one of those cars that you just have to see in person to truly appreciate…

For “Best Honda”, the award went to Mike Trevino from Bandits. His RHD 4-door Civic is one of the best and it’s great to see that he’s also constantly looking for ways to make his build even better. The color change early this year threw me off but I think he’s got it the right combination of parts and color schemes…

You would think that at a Honda-dominated event, a Honda would win the “Best Engine Bay” award but Year.IV proved otherwise. There were a ton of really great Honda engine bays but we just had to give the award to Marcus Cooke and his ARC-themed engine bay. After learning all about his build and how much time he spent on the engine bay, I just couldn’t justify giving the award to anyone else. Like Chris Ortez’s G35, Marcus Cooke’s G sedan is also one that you should really try to look at upclose. I think the closest Honda to winning the “Best Engine Bay” award would be RC Chacon and his Civic sedan but he won last year and I decided this year that I wouldn’t have any repeat winners unless there were significant changes…

The final award was the “Personal Choice” award, which went to a car that I selected personally as a favorite of mine. Unlike the other awards, which I asked others to help me out when considering a winner, this particular award was picked only by myself. I love ATS Mike Jones’ EF aka Rusty, as well as the back story behind the build, so I just had to give it to Mike. His EF has been a big hit this year and is just one of those timeless Honda builds that will never go out of style…

A final snap from the event before I put my camera gear away to go pick-up trash around the venue. I was happy that a majority of the people that attended listened and didn’t make too big of a mess, but a huge “fuck you” goes to the guy that left his dirty ass baby diapers on the floor by the Eibach building. I mean, it’s not like trash cans were hard to find that day. It would have been nice if you had just walked like three steps to throw your baby’s shit away in a trash can. I don’t think that’s asking for too much but that’s just how inconsiderate people are these days… Anyways, DPK David, Rywire Ryan, Big Mike, Ryan Hoegner, Keychain, and I then spent the next hour going back and forth picking up trash and dumping them into dumpsters…

After we cleaned-up and tore down the booth, we got everyone together to figure out where to eat. Hiro wanted to break bread with us along with our other Japanese friends so it was just a matter of finding a place that could hold all of us. Rodrez had left a little earlier because he had to get his baby home and notified us that traffic was a mess going back that way. There was a huge accident that literally shut the highway down so we decided to just eat in that area. Mr. Kebab in Riverside is one of our favorite spots out there so we made our way east for dinner…

We were all starving by that time so no one hesitated to dive right into the food. This particular style of food was foreign to some of the Japanese guys, and I don’t think some of them even liked it, but they told us that they wanted to experience America in all facets so they enjoyed their dinner experience with us…

That’s pretty much it. I know it was a lot to take in but I hope you guys have taken the time to read through it all. Year.IV was a great event and an amazing day overall.   1. Great review! Always a fan of the “lifestyle” posts and of course the Year IV coverage!

    We have that euro Civic over here and compared to the EK/EJ (wich is the same in age) it’s worth next to nothing. It’s a bad collaboration between Honda and Rover. The Rover 400 is the same car as the Civic MB wich sais it all, atleast for me. 🙂

    • Yeah, rover got the technology from honda, & honda got a ‘5door’ from rover!! not a bad car really, but worth nothing compared to the 3door & coupe, even over here in the UK!
