Formula D Long Beach 2013 Coverage…Part 2…

Welcome back to The Chronicles’ ongoing coverage of the 2013 Formula D Long Beach event. This is the second of three parts and like yesterday, will be pretty random. It’s just a collection of photos that I took in sequence that day. Anything that caught my eye I shot it as I always do here on the site. I apologize in advance for not getting any actual track coverage, but if you read my intro in Part 1, you’d likely realize the reason why I didn’t. Instead, I just walked around and took in the ambiance of the entire day. As you’ll see I personally prefer to walk around the paddock area and to see the drift cars up close instead of in a cloud of smoke. It helps me to appreciate some of the builds more and get to see the team of people that are behind each car. Despite how ravaged these cars can look at times, a lot of them are pretty well-built. I still wish there was more of a Japanese influence like I said yesterday, but it doesn’t diminish the work these people have put into getting these cars ready for competition…

With that said, here is a link to Part 1 in case any of you missed-out. It’s actually right before this post but as the posts this month start adding up, it might be a little harder for you to find later. Also, I’ve attached a link to a special feature I shot last week featuring Autofashion USA and model Julie Mai. I really like how the photos come out and I invite you to view them if you haven’t already…

Autofashion Shoptour Featuring Julie Mai…

And now, here is Part deux…

Good to see the MOTHER’S-built Ford Mustang RTR again after seeing it debut at the SEMA 2012 event last year…

IMG_3106-Edit

Sparkle Garage Toyota Cressida on display at FD, looking as raw as ever…

IMG_3102-Edit

A model that was probably thinking that it was way too early to be there and be wearing tiny red shorts in the rain….

IMG_3122-Edit

Over at the SSR Wheels booth, the widebody Nissan GTR from Auto Concept was prominently display, along with the debut of a new wheel from SSR…

IMG_3117-Edit

…the new lightweight SSR GTF01…

IMG_3119-Edit

SSR’s Executor CV01 wheel, which is starting to pop-up on more cars out here in the Socal area…

IMG_3074-Edit_2

To make up for the lack of actual track coverage, here is a photo of eventual winner Dai Yoshihara’s V8 S13 (RC car) doing some sliding with smoke added by me later in Photoshop, haha…

IMG_3124-Edit

VeilSide Fortune Acura NSX from R-Rydes…

IMG_3126-Edit

Justin Pawlak’s Ford Mustang back in the pits getting some minor maintenance done to it before the next session….

IMG_3132-Edit

Darren McNamara’s Rocket Bunny S14 drift car rocking white HRE wheels…

IMG_3136-Edit

One of the cars that I had been excited to see was Toshiki Yoshioka’s widebody Subaru BRZ drift car. I had only caught a glimpse of it a couple weeks back at the Formula D Tech Day event, and it didn’t even have it’s vinyl graphics applied yet nor were the parts completely mounted to the car…

IMG_3153-Edit

At FD, it was finally complete and I was able to see the finished product. Their work area wasn’t very big but it kind of helped to add to that old Japanese drift car appeal. Here we are crammed in their section trying to get some better shots of the car while Yoshioka talked to others…

IMG_3143-Edit

He was also kind enough to pop the hood for us to check out the TOMEI-built EJ26 Genesis motor…

IMG_3149-Edit

One of the rare times I can say I enjoyed looking at the engine bay of an FT86-chassis FR-S/BR-Z… You can read a little bit more about it on the TOMEI blog HERE…

IMG_3155-Edit

Serial Nine Lexus 2GS drift car looking good tucked underneath the tent on Work Meister M1Rs…

IMG_3157-Edit

Ryan Tuerck’s Rocket-O Bunny FR-S drift car getting worked on…

IMG_3159-Edit

Wild radiator and fuel cell set-up in the trunk of Tuerck’s FR-S…

IMG_3165-Edit

Conrad Grunewald’s Chevy Camaro on jackstands….

IMG_3170-Edit

Tyler McQuarrie’s Camaro was also on jackstands…

IMG_3168-Edit

…with the entire rear end taken out for quick repairs…

IMG_3182-Edit

IMG_3178-Edit

IMG_3177-Edit

Better shots of the RWB Porsche from eGarage that you saw yesterday in Part 1. Wheels are HRE’s 501 Vintage Series…

IMG_3186-Edit

Regular Mag Blue and Mag Blue in a Matte/Satin finish on these new Rays wheels….

IMG_3189-Edit

More of the Mackin Industries’ Rocket Bunny FR-S, wearing colors reminiscent of the classic Gulf livery…

IMG_3191-Edit

IMG_3193-Edit

…and of course, the Evasive Motorsports FR-S…

IMG_3200-Edit

Always enjoy seeing this beautifully-assembled Lexus LS430…

IMG_3196-Edit

One more of the CTS-V Wagon from Sanctioned…

IMG_3203-Edit

At some point during the late morning/early afternoon, Jonathan Wong from Super Street got thirsty and decided to spend a fortune on one beer. Shit cost more than an admission ticket to Hot Import Nights, and both are equally as unfulfilling…

IMG_3205-Edit

The “Fatchance 2.0” Chrysler 300C…

IMG_3207-Edit

Enrique Mendoza and his S13 drifter cruised by as we ventured over to the “Slammed Society” showcase area of Formula D…

IMG_3209-Edit

As did Forest Wang and his 2JZ-S14 from Get Nuts Lab…

IMG_3212-Edit

Ming’s Y34 on TE37SL…

IMG_3217-Edit

I got some more shots of Noel’s T&E Vertex/Rocket Bunny FR-s while DPK David and Noel’s brother Bert re-connected…

IMG_3218-Edit

The Vortech-supercharger also went in recently along with the laundry-list of additions Noel made to his car. I can’t help but think how terrible the engine bay looks in these cars. It’s the only car that looks like you’re looking at the engine upside-down, haha…

IMG_3227-Edit

B5 Subaru Legacy slammed on Rotiform NUE…

IMG_3228-Edit

Subaru WRX laying on the ground on white CCW Classics…

IMG_3230-Edit

Nimo’s IS…

IMG_3232-Edit

Keith aka Keychain’s Accord with complete Wings West lip kit and Work VS-KFs…

IMG_3233-Edit

…and closing it out for today with a shot of this Lexus 3GS from 88Rotors….

That’s a wrap for today. Looking to close it out tomorrow with part 3 of 3. Thanks for looking…
