It’s rare to have a weekend update typically here on The Chronicles but since there is still so much to cover, I figured this weekend would be a good time to pump out some more coverage. I still have so many photos to go through and I know the TAS stuff might seem a little repetitive at times but once we get through the coverage, we will have a ton of cool stuff to look at that is totally unrelated to the show itself. My trip took me to so many different areas of Japan that I ended up seeing and experiencing so many unexpected things. I’m blessed to have so many good friends in Japan and have met so many great people that my trip would just not be the same without them….
I got some stuff to take care of on this beautiful California weekend so I’ll keep it short for today. Enjoy the coverage and have a good one…

The Chronicles 2014 Japan Trip Coverage… Part 1: An Intro, An RWB Meet, and TAS ’14 Coverage…
The Chronicles 2014 Japan Trip Coverage… Part 2: Tokyo Auto Salon Coverage Begins…
The Chronicles 2014 Japan Trip Coverage… Part 3: Tokyo Auto Salon Coverage Continues…
Today we conclude day 1 of the Tokyo Auto Salon ’14 event and day 2 is actually quite smaller so we’ll wrap up the rest of the TAS stuff pretty quickly next week before moving onto other adventures I had while in Japan…
Kicking off Part 4 with one more shot of the Aimgain Toyota 86 on WED’s Maverick wheels…
GReddy R35 GTR on the new TE37 Ultras…
GReddy Rocket Bunny Toyota 86 with classic GReddy livery…
Rocket Bunny Version 2 Toyota 86 on new Work Meister M1 step-lip wheels…
Ben Sopra Z33 Fairlady…Pretty wild front canard on this kit but it flows pretty well with the car so it works…
Bright magenta Toyota Mark II Qualis at the StyleWagon booth… You rarely ever see these things modded. Almost had me thinking it was an Accord wagon or something until I looked closer…
Widebody Toyota 86 on Volk Racing G27….
Rocket Bunny Ver. 1 Toyota 86 on the Volk Racing ZE40…
Weld Technique Factory came out of nowhere and debuted their Toyota 86 build that ended up probably being the best build of Tokyo Auto Salon ’14….The whole thing just comes together incredibly, especially with the engine bay. Rarely do you see extensive work with this chassis, especially in Japan, so it was pretty wild to see this in person with little to no build-up on the web or anything…
The deep candy red paint and molded widebody really makes this whole build pop…
TRD widebody AE86 Corolla on bronze Volk TE37V….The fuel set-up and motor was pretty bad ass on this thing but soon after I got these shots, people swarmed the car and I couldn’t really get near it, so uhhh…just take my word for it…
Full Stage Tuning Garage R34 Skyline GT-R on their new GTM7 wheels…
Spirit Rei produces, what I feel, is the best looking aero kit for the S13 180SX chassis. I loved the red one they brought last year and was fully expecting to see it again this year, but instead they had this white Spirit Rei car in its place in the Option magazine section. The engine bay on this one is rea`lly nice with the tubbed wheel wells and all. Just very clean execution overall…
V8-swapped Toyota 86 RC that you guys have probably seen a ton of online in the past year or so. Really cool build with the original, non-painted RC bumpers with individual throttle bodies and Work wheels…
The winner of Speedhunters’ “Car of the Year” was the Ben Sopra 380SX, which is a 180SX chassis with full R35 engine and drivetrain swap. I captured photos of it in a nearly completed state at last year’s TAS event but this year, the car was finally together and fully operational…
Love how the rear of this 380SX looks with the exposed rear wing and no rear bumper….
Nissan Skyline on Glow Star wheels parked near the Drift Tengoku booth…
Rocket Bunny 180SX with GM LS-swap. The Japanese were going crazy over this car throughout the day and were pretty surprised to see an American V8 in a 180SX. The swaps seem to be pretty common over here but not so much in Japan. They even had a speaker and iPhone set-up right in front of the car to play the audio of how the motor sounds revving up and down….
Panspeed FD3S RX-7 on SSR Professor SP1 wheels…
Cleib Subaru BRZ on Volk Racing TE37RT… I know Jay from JDMEGO would appreciate this build…
Toyota 86 parked right next to the Cleib car, this one with Zele aero…
Nobody how many times I’ve seen this car, I always stop to take a look at the Top Fuel S2000RR. Just a magnificently-built race car that looks just as good as any show car you’d see at an event. The aero is insane and it just creates such a menacing presence…
Pro Shop Screen’s R35 GTR demo car…
Two R35 GTRs from Phoenix’s Power on BBS RI-D wheels…
Another R35 GTR from Car Making: Revyou….
Endless Total Tune and Performance R35 demo car….
Art Tech Hanatsuka’s R34 Skyline GT-R…
There were probably less than a handful of R33 Skylines in attendance at Tokyo Auto Salon, as most of the BNR33s I saw were outside in the parking lot. This rare sight is from Wing Takeo…
One car that was one of the surprises of Tokyo Auto Salon was this turbocharged second generation Mitsubishi Lancer. This thing was in perfect restored condition with Volk TE37Vs and Endless Racing brakes…
The Lancer was a part of a pretty cool display because right next to it was a very modern Varis EVO X…
Two System R35 GT-R on black Advan Racing GTs…
Top Secret had a full array of R35 GT-Rs on hand. I only got a couple shots of them as I was too busy trying to by Top Secret goodies from their booth…
Top Secret Toyota 86 with molded Rocket Bunny V1 kit…
Kuhl Racing Toyota 86 with incredible paint job from Artis. Yes, this is paint…
I really liked this Toyota Aristo. The body work and custom flares and all looks incredibly aggressive. I forget the name of these new wheels that were on the car but they look like really deep, concave variations of OEM R33 GT-R wheels. Great execution….
Liberty Walk had one of the largest and most extravagant displays at Tokyo Auto Salon 2014…
TAS was the debut of the LB*Works’s Kenmeri Skyline build, which is a throwback to the cars that they started out building when they first created the Liberty Walk brand…
Liberty Walk Ferrari 458 Italia Spider on SSR Executor series wheels…
LB Performance widebody R35 GTR…
Liberty Walk 458 Italia, this one a non-convertible…
Liberty Walk Lamborghini Murcielago. Directly behind it is the Liberty Walk BMW M3 which was on a lift that was also on sale…
A better look at the Liberty Walk widebody kit for the R35. This one also has their new LB Performance wheels…
Liberty Walk widebody Murcielago on air suspension…
Closing out Part 4 with a photo of some of the Liberty Walk scale models. The guys from Liberty Walk were actually nice enough to take the display case off of it so I could get a good shot of them… I really wanted these too but couldn’t justify spending 30 dollars each on models that I would never build. These would literally just sit in the original boxes and be on my desk forever…
Well that’s all for today. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend….Coverage resumes Monday…
