Autocon LA 2014 Coverage…Part 2 of 2…

Welcome back everyone. Today we’re going to pick up from where we last left off and continue with the rest of the Autocon LA 2014 coverage. Part 1 presented a variety of different cars as well as a bit of model coverage and today will be no different. One of the great things about shows like Autocon is that it is so rich with variety. I didn’t cover any of the end of show festivities with the awards and all because I honestly didn’t think it was very important. I mean, the competition side of the event is a big deal for those competing but for guys like me who were just enjoying the show and don’t have much invested in the competition, winning or losing doesn’t mean a whole lot. I’m happy for those that won and congrats to them. I on the other hand, was busy hanging out with friends and drinking some beer. That all adds up to a good day for me and I really have no complaints at all about this year’s Autocon event. Like I mentioned in Part 1, this was by far the best Autocon yet and I’m excited to see what the future has to hold for them…

Included in the end of this post is something completely new and something that I have never done before on the site. In the last couple of months, I’ve been messing around with this Fuji Instax Mini camera. For those unaware, it is basically like a new-age Polaroid camera with photos that develop after every shot. I liked the idea of being able to capture people at events this way and will probably continue to do so for the foreseeable future. I’ve always found that it was important to capture the many people that make up our great community so I use my Fuji Instax camera to get the more candid side of our scene. I’m still learning how to use it but I like what I got so far. I took all the photos that I took that day on the Fuji cam and scanned them for the web. It obviously looks better in person since it isn’t being blown up by a computer screen but I think you guys will get the jist of it. Enjoy the rest of the post and make sure to check out Part 1 if you haven’t already…

Oh I forgot to mention that during my adventures covering Autocon, I completely forgot to capture photos of the cars that were on display outside. My bad. It just completely skipped my mind…

We kick off Part 2 with some shots of two of my favorite builds by Chris Ortez and Marcus Cooke. These two are always trying to add new mods to their G35 sedans to keep them fresh and Autocon marked the debut of each of their new set-ups…

IMG_7121-Edit

New to Chris’ G35 was a Japanese Top Secret theme with a myriad of Top Secret accessories and even some Top Secret Edition 19-inch Volk Racing TE37 wheels…

The most notable addition to his G sedan was the custom Roberuta air suspension system. Laid out in his trunk were dual air tanks with steel hard lines that deliver air to each corner of the vehicle. Roberuta is perhaps thee best air suspension company in Japan so Chris knew he had some quality products in his hands. The two air tanks are painted gold to carry the Top Secret theme into the trunk and the floor features a custom trunk mat made from BRIDE material…

Here are a couple more shots of Franchesca since I think she was one of the more slept on models at the event being that she didn’t have nearly as big of a following in the import automotive community (yet)….

At the end of the day, Miss Autocon L.A. 2014 was announced and my good friend Jenn Q took home the honors. Congrats to her….

That pretty much wraps up the show coverage that I captured with my dSLR. As I mentioned earlier, I took the time to scan some of the photos that I took on my Fuji Instamax Mini. It’s a really cool camera to have if you just want to capture people at events. My goal is to collect photos of my friends and acquaintances at every event and then showcase the shots on a giant board at my anniversary meet in late October….

At Autocon, we noticed that the new thing to do was for random strangers to physically pick-up the models to take photos with them. After JDM Wong had some beers in him, he wanted to attempt the same pose by picking up Charles Trieu. I think that he pulled it off quite successfully, haha…

…and we close out our festivities with a couple shots of us from a photo booth that was set-up at the show.

Car show, model life with some of the people whom I’ve had a great deal of pleasure working with over the years producing automotive magazines for the world to see. Some of us have gone our separate ways but it is always great to reconnect at events like this and also to meet new friends…

Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoyed my look back at Autocon LA 2014!!….
