Wekfest Japan 2015 Coverage…Part 2…

What’s up all!! Well, it’s a long holiday weekend here in the U.S. so why not get another update up for all to see? I hope, HOPE, that you guys have already gone through the latest Chronicles Vlogs because it will help to shed better light on what exactly went on at Wekfest Japan. With the video, it helps to alleviate the long, drawn-out intros that I have to write for you guys because there is less of a need to capture the essence of the event. I try my best to give you guys a good feel of what the event is like with the videos and after that, you can see the cars in better detail with the coverage below. There is still one more section of photos to post up after today’s update but I’ll unload that on you guys during the next week. Once I get through the photos, we will resume with the Vlogs that cover the rest of my adventures in Osaka, Japan…

I don’t know if many of you guys are aware but I didn’t just go to Japan strictly for the Wekfest event. Yasu actually helped us organize a Phaze2 x Autofashion night meet in Osaka. We had no idea how many cars and people would show up but it was absolutely insane! I also did a ton of other random, interesting, things in Japan that I’ll wedge in-between. Anyways, enjoy the photos below. I think this post in particular highlights some of the best builds at Wekfest Japan and everything that was good about this show. I love that in its second year, the show is already filled with a ton of variety. There is something for everyone to look at and I hope that you enjoy the cars as much as I did…

A favorite of mine from this year’s WFJP event was this pristine E-AT Civic on custom-built OE Honda wheels. The car overall is so simple but has a very distinct look about it. A closer look reveals some really interesting details like the side-exit exhaust. Just a really cool, well-maintained old school Honda…

One of the many surprises that popped-up at WFJP was Yosiyuki Hatano’s Spoon Sports-themed S2000. Many will recognize Hatano’s (aka “Type_H”) S2000 Type-S with its full Mugen look but he switched the whole build around this year for a more aggressive Spoon look. I think I still prefer the Mugen look since its so classic but I can dig it. It looks like an completely different car altogether…

This Rocket Bunny S13 is actually a legit USDM 240SX. The car was imported over to Japan where it was fitted with a full Rocket Bunny aero kit…

IMG_0570-Edit

This Integra Type R sedan also reflected the “USDM” style of the WFJP event. The front end of the DB8 was swapped out in favor of a 98-01 USDM Integra front end with a Special Projects front lip/splitter combo…

BAD QUALITY AE86 Trueno GT-S on RS Watanabe wheels… Sometimes you just know when a car is put together correctly and this 86 was just ON POINT. Love it….

BAD QUALITY VeilSide Fortune Model FD3S RX-7. Such a bizarre-looking car that just looks spectacular in person….

IMG_0588-Edit

This S13 Silvia with 180SX front end caught my eye the moment it pulled into the venue. The huge flares, aggressive ride height, and Ganador Super Mirrors scream for attention and the sound of the turbo spooling as it rolled into the show was undeniable….

I actually spotted this S30Z out in the parking lot of last year’s Wekfest Japan event. For me, this car stole the show and was the best build in (and out) of the building. Again, sometimes you just know when a car is just built right and this was one of the special ones…

IMG_0598-Edit

Under the elongated hood of the S30Z is a individually-throttled naturally-aspirated Toyota 2JZ-GE engine. Definitely not something commonly done on this particular chassis…

Outside, the Z is slammed to all hell on Weld Racing wheels which are tucked under the flared body…

This Toyota Crown wagon was yet another incredibly-interesting build at WFJP. Under the hood is a modern Toyota UZ V8 engine…

IMG_0614-Edit

For the 2015 event, this Trueno, BY FAR, was my personal favorite “Best of Show”. This thing was simply incredible. You never have to do much to AE86s to make them look good, as witnessed above, but the engine bay was just amazing…

IMG_0611-Edit

The Car Peace AE86 Trueno featured a carb’d 4A-GE engine inside one of the best 86 bays that I’ve ever seen. Loved the crazy-looking header and the burnt horns on the carburetors…

Slammed NA1 Acura NSX now living in Japan on Work Emotion CR….

Like last year, I really wanted to make a trek out to the parking lot of the Wekfest Japan event to see what cars were there. The great thing about automotive events like this in Japan is that enthusiasts aren’t afraid to bring their cars out. Here, people worry about theft and vandalism but for the most part, it is much safer in Japan. Sure theft is still an issue but it doesn’t really prevent people from cruising around in their cars. This year, they moved the parking lot across the street which made it a bit of a walk, considering how big the venue is, but we still managed to head on over to check out the “other car show”…

IMG_0619-Edit

Wekfest in Japan is still based very heavily on USDM influence. As such, the show caters to only cars that are both available in the U.S. and Japan. I think they are working on changing that rule but for the past two years, you were only able to show your car if it followed the requirements. I personally would like to see this rule changed because I love Japanese car culture and would love to see builds like this Hakosuka above inside the building. It just helps to add another element to the show that would make it that much better. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Skylines and S15 Silvias inside and competing at WFJP?…

IMG_0623-Edit

I soon discovered a unicorn in the parking lot in the form of a full JUN Auto-themed Prelude. This was amazing! JUN front lip, hood, sides, rear, and even the JUN rear spoiler. It even had Advan RGs on it like the original JUN demo car had…

This Mazda MPV looked great from an aesthetic standpoint but looking inside the engine bay reveals a completely different animal. Lurking in the bay is a turbocharged engine originally from a Mazda Speed 3. If that wasn’t enough, they even managed to mate a 6-speed manual transmission to it…

As far as custom-built Hondas go, this coupe had to be one of the more interesting cars in attendance. Make note of the custom inner trunk which blocks off the reverse lights. Also check out the custom rear wing that’s been molded into the trunk…

Closing things out for the weekend with this CD Accord Wagon on gold BBS LM wheels…

Well that’s all for now. Again, everyone have a safe and fun weekend. Thanks for looking!!!…

  1. Such a beautiful blue on that EK hatch, that blue-black/carbon combo is nice. Really digging the custom rear-end on the coupe as well; I’ve always thought those cars looked a bit like an E46, and that light mod just helps the aggression further.

  2. That coupe… Coupe are so rare in Japan, and it has same wheels as mine. BBS RF’s rocks!

  3. are those train horns coming out the bottom of the rear LINES-RACING skyline?

  4. “Hideo Shingu’s Honda Integra Type R that’s been remade to look like a U.S.-spec ’97 Integra Type R…”

    Corrected?

Love what you do, Joey. Phenomenal work as usual.

  5. What color are the Volk CE28 wheels on Type H’s S2000?

  6. in the background of the first pic, there’s a white ef hatch with looks of bbs wheels…need pics of that
