I’ve decided to compile a majority of my photos from Japan (Outside of Tokyo Auto Salon 2017) all into a series of posts instead of dividing them into separate coverage posts. A lot of the photos are just scattered images that I captured at random times during my trip so it just makes so much more sense to put them altogether in a more traditional blog-type post. With that being said however, the photos that stood out to me the most during the beginning of my trip were my shots from the Rauh Welt Begriff Meet. This event goes on every year during this time at the Hard Rock Cafe in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, Japan. I’ve attended the last couple of years but I always end up going super late because I fly into Tokyo that same night. I switched my schedule around this time to arrive in Tokyo a couple days earlier and as such, I was able to attend the RWB Meet during its busiest time. I would typically arrive at the tail-end of the meet so everyone is gone already. I had no idea how busy it actually got during its peak and that tiny lot in Roppongi was filled to the brim with spectators and fellow RWB enthusiasts from all over the world. I was actually surprised by how many foreigners were there. It almost seemed like there were more foreigners attending than the Japanese but I guess it is expected when you have such a globally recognized and revered brand. It was cool to see so much enthusiasm at this meet because on the outside looking in, people often like to say that RWB is “played-out” or lacking the popularity it once had a few years ago. Being in the presence of these machines presents an entirely different experience. You almost develop a better appreciation for the brand and the vehicles when you are immersed in them. There’s just something so incredibly cool about these cars because there isn’t anything else like it in the world and each build seems to bring with it their own sense of uniqueness and character. It’s hard to explain. I guess you’d just have to be there. For those who think that the brand is getting old, boy do you have it wrong. I don’t even think I’d ever own one of these cars but I still love staring at them every year on the other side of the world…

The thing I enjoy the most about Nakai’s personal RWB builds is that they all show so much character. That sense of rawness just can’t be recreated anywhere else…

I didn’t snap a whole lot of photos and instead reserved myself to just sitting back and enjoying the night scenery. If you guys haven’t had a chance to see this meet in person, it is a definite must if you ever go to Japan around this time. You don’t really get to understand the true feel of a Rauh Welt Begriff build until you’re surrounded by them, all seemingly having their own story, all very different but the same, all at the same time, if that makes sense….
