Osaka Auto Messe 2017 Coverage… Part 3 of 3…

How is everyone liking the new site layout? I know it comes as a sudden change, being that there was no announcement prior to the change, but honestly it just sort of happened on a whim. I had been itching to sort of change things up a bit towards the end of last year but just hadn’t been able to find the time to go through it all. Now the site has direct access to the storefront without having to go through a separate page, which I always thought was stupid, and the links up top have a specific purpose. You can also head straight to the YouTube channel now to catch up on the Vlogs and you’ll also see a new link to another project that I am working on, tentatively dubbed “The Epilogues”. Why? Well, every great story has to have an epilogue right? Haha… I guess only some of you will get that. And those that do I think will appreciate what we are working on this year. Those that don’t will be in for a bit of a surprise I think. It is something that I don’t think has been done in the automotive community yet and I am excited to start putting it together to better tell the stories of some of the people that helped to make this community such a great and enjoyable place to be all these years. Stay tuned for The Epilogues. The web address is a bit peculiar, but it also makes a strong statement that will stick in people’s minds; “peoplewillreadagain.com”. It is time for people to reset their attention spans and start reading again. Those 15 to 60 second intervals of attention just won’t do if you want to continue to be a learning human being in this ever-changing society…

Anyways, moving on…Today is the final portion of the 2017 Osaka Auto Messe  Coverage. Most of these are just extra shots that both Tiffanie and I captured during the end of the 3-day event. The show isn’t nearly as massive as Tokyo Auto Salon so we got through most of the halls pretty quickly. Many of the cars from the major booths were the same as the ones that you guys saw at Tokyo Auto Salon 2017 so I really didn’t try to get photos of those again. Instead, I just hung out and we just shot whatever. It was more of a practice in just shooting for fun again instead of going through the monotony of collecting coverage of every car there. Enjoy…

In-between the halls of the event, there was a gathering of Super GT cars and a hoard of spectators around them. They were revving the living shit out of the Audi R8 GT car and people were as excited as a group of well-mannered Japanese people can be…

We missed getting a photo of the new Liberty Walk Ferrari 488 GTB during Tokyo Auto Salon so I made sure to have Tiffanie get some photos of it while I was doing video. The 488 GTB is nice and way more aggressive looking than the 458 Italia, but the Liberty Walk kit looks about the same since it still needs to flow with the body lines of the Ferrari…

Occasionally Tiffanie would do some modeling for the booth, which brought a crowd of creepy photographers and onlookers…

The NGK Spark Plug guy was posing this way not because he was happy to see me, which I’m sure most spark plug puppets would be, but I think he was on his way to the toilet and I stopped him, prompting him to put his arms out in a “why?” gesture…

  1. Definitely looking forward to The Epilogues. I’m a bookworm anyway, so bring it on!!! Maybe it’ll make up for Honda Tuning being taken away from us, because I was really enjoying the Legends series of interviews.

  2. Just a few comments about the new site, everyone is a critic right? Big fan of the Website and culture, just looking to add some feedback if desired.

I would recommend changing the header to drop down when only scrolling up. Most viewers scroll down to view the content and only scroll up to get to another section, so its just taking up visual space. Additionally the header takes up about 10% of the screen when viewing a photo. Currently every photo is cropped by header so you never really get to see the whole image in its entirety.

I don’t mind the center justification of the text. But I would opt to rag the last line justified left. It makes it odd to read when you have 3 words centered on the last line, especially because it looks like the text is responsive to the screen size.

Lastly, the white text on the background image on the front page is really hard to read. Depending on the photo being used the background image conflicts with he white text and you can’t make out the letter forms. I would try a low opacity black text box to encapsulate the words or using a small black outline around the text. You need the contrast for easier readability.

Overall I love the new vibe of the site and look forward to reading the Epilogues.
