Brandon Kim’s S2000 CR Build Photos… Part 1…

I haven’t done a build feature on this site in awhile, since we typically cover most of this type of stuff on the Vlogs these days, but I decided to capture some photos of Brandon Kim’s S2000 build so both you guys and Brandon can see detailed updates as Yuta moves forward with it. It just made sense to get photos to document everything because Brandon actually lives in Hawaii while his S2000 spends a majority of its time here in California. The car was shipped over via boat a few years and is a resident here at our shop. After Yuta Akaishi came back from Arizona after working at HKS USA for a year, the two of them decided to install an HKS GT2 Supercharger on the CR. Along with the install came a bunch of other stuff that eventually will make its way onto the car. It seems like new things are being added every day as Yuta continues to go through the car. Most of the info and technical aspects of this build-up will be detailed on future episodes of the Vlog but periodically, I’ll toss up some photos as well. Here are the first batch of photos that I captured recently at the very start of the build…

Brandon’s S2000 CR is one of the cleanest CRs you’ll find, running full Voltex aero and barely driven ever since it typically just sits in our shop under a plastic sheet. Once all this work goes into it and events start happening again, we hope to have the car out and about more…

309A6987-Edit

Other than some minor aesthetic add-ons, the F22C engine was essentially stock. Yuta was careful to keep everything as clean and untouched as possible before the supercharger went on so he blue-taped sections that would likely see the most contact…

Some of the OEM Honda components removed from the CR…

309A7003-Edit

The first order of business after the Exedy clutch was installed and broken-in was to replace the OEM exhaust manifold with a brand new HKS header…

309A7025-Edit

The HKS header is a beautiful piece and one that we haven’t come across very often, but Brandon wanted to keep the HKS catalog as an essential part of his build so he opted for this rare piece…

309A7032-Edit

From the bottom of the S2000 is where you see the true beauty of the HKS header, with the runners having a unique twist before it joins into the EVS exhaust…

309A7038-Edit

Unrelated to what we were doing but simply a cool piece on the car was this magnetic Project Mu oil drain plug…

309A7050-Edit

A view of the header after it was secured to the engine and heat cycled to give it that bronze finish…

309A7096-Edit

Next, the OEM air box (with Spoon Sports drop-in filter) was removed to make room for the plate which would house the HKS blower and drive-belt…

309A7100-Edit

Before the supercharger was mounted, the base plate provided a window to view the exhaust manifold…

309A7103-Edit

The Cerakoted plate firmly secured…

309A7279-Edit

HKS GT2 Supercharger mocked-up and eventually bolted into place. Blue tape was also used on the supercharger unit to protect it…

309A7285-Edit

Upper pipe on the intake-side mounted with black silicone hose ends to give it a unique look than what the HKS kit offered…

309A7287-Edit

The front-mounted intercooler installed with the lower side pipe mocked-up to it…

309A7291-Edit

From the top you can see how there was still an adjoining pipe connecting the two existing pieces…

309A7314-Edit

HKS GT2 Supercharger finalized to the plate with its pulley and drive-belt installed…

309A7318-Edit

And here is the current state of things until more parts come to continue to the install. We were iffy about the custom Cerakoted blue hue on the plate and pipes but after staring at it for awhile, it seems to provide an interesting contrast touch to the bay…

As the build continues, I’ll try to get as many photos as possible to coincide with the future Vlog updates. Thanks for looking and stayed tuned for more!…
