This update is over a month late, but I liked the cars so much that I had to devote some time to posting it up for you guys. If you are a Honda head or have followed this site closely these last couple years, then you should all be pretty familiar with Yonas Liu’s battleship grey Civic from JDMYard. He’s all the way down under in Australia but his Civic is such a great build that it’s become recognized all over the world. One of the reasons behind this Civic’s popularity is because of how multi-faceted it is. It not only looks great, it also serves time as a time attack and drag vehicle. I’ve become familiar with this car over time because I’ve done a story for it in Honda Tuning magazine and I’ve also been following Yonas’ build for a few years now. Now whenever Yonas has an update on the car, he hits me up on Facebook and gives me all the details on what he’s up to. The car has always been known for having an all-motor K24 set-up but a couple months back, Yonas decided to take his car in a different direction and supercharge it with a Rotrex unit. The car itself has always been pretty quick but now with the supercharger, it’s pumping out around 400hp or so. With the new added power, adjustments had to be made and Yonas has had to re-learn how to drive his car. The Honda Nationals event at Wakefield Park Raceway in Australia proved to be the cars first big test, and it ended up finishing 6th overall on the day. Below are some photos from that event, courtesy of photographer Simon Nguyen…
Oh, forgot to give you guys some details on the event itself. Honda Nationals was one of the first all-Honda track events held out there and cars were divided into 4 different categories, depending on level of modification. Enthusiasts from all over Australia showed up, even some who were 1000km (over 600 miles) away to compete at Honda Nationals…
Yonas Liu’s Civic from JDMYard…you can see the intercooler for the new Rotrex S/C behind the bumper…
Integra with some pretty aggressive Enkei RPF1s…
EG with a similar set-up…
Interesting wing mount on the EG…
Love this S2000 on CE28s…
More of Yonas’ EG…
Extensive do-it-yourself modifications to the front end of this coupe…
Great shots of some Integras on the track…
More of the S2K…
EP3 creeping on this S2000….
Peep the oil cooler where the right blinker once stood…
Meaty tires and massive StopTech brakes….
You can see in this rear shot of the front fender had to be spaced out to make room for the buff ass Enkei wheels…
Yonas in action…
Here’s a quick fly-by video of the JDMYard EGK24A…no onboard video since Yonas forgot his camera that day…
Here are a couple shots of the install prior to the Honda Nationals event…
TTS Rotrex supercharger DIY kit…
How it looks with the bumper off… A full-size DC2 radiator didn’t fit anymore so an extra tank was fabricated to hold an additional 3.5 liters of coolant…You can’t see the HKS blow-off valve here but it’s tucked under the headlight/wheel well area…
After running at the Honda Nationals event, it was apparent that traction and braking were two major issues with the car….
To improve braking, Yonas and the JDMYard crew decided to go with a 5-lug conversion, as well as Project Mu SCR Pro 300mm front rotors and Spoon Monoblock calipers from an S2000….
With the 5-lug, the 949 6UL wheels weren’t going to fit anymore so they took a set of white Volk CE28s off of their RSX project car and tested them on the EG… The 17×9 +22 CEs up front made for an interesting fit, especially considering the 255/40-17 tires… You can also see where the blow-off valve is mounted in this photo…
It won’t be making very many U-turns in the future but they managed to get the wheels to work. Hopefully the wider tread of the 255 rubber up front will help to alleviate the traction issues…
Great fab-work on the ducting/scoop for the oil cooler….
More modifications were made to the front bumper to help direct airflow into the intercooler as well as the side-mounted oil cooler….
Yonas is already back on the track and doing more testing with the new upgrades… This is one of my favorite EG builds of all-time and I love seeing it’s continued evolution…
JDMYard is throwing a big meet on December 3rd and Yonas has been hitting me up for awhile now trying to get some Chronicles merchandise over to Australia. I wanted to do something a little different for him and since I love his car so much, I went ahead and created a custom decal just for him and to celebrate his meet. Hopefully the package gets down there to him in time so he can rock these bad boys on his EG…
One-off Chronicles x JDMYard collabo decal…battleship grey to match his car as well…
That’s all for today. I hope everyone has a wonderful and most importantly, safe Thanksgiving holiday. Be careful out there people…. Thanks for looking…
