A Night Meet For Hope…

I apologize for the sudden interruption of the 2015 Eibach Honda Meet coverage but I feel that today’s post comes with a sense of urgency…

I was contacted by my good friend Yasutaka Shimomukai over the weekend with some news that he had participated in a local meet out in Osaka, Japan. Unlike most meets out there that seem to happen almost weekly, this particular one was a special one. There was a young 10 year-old Japanese boy by the name of Yuki who was stricken with a life-threatening brain tumor and didn’t have much time left on this Earth. He was a car enthusiast as long as he could remember and one of his favorite films was “The Fast and The Furious”. Yasu told me that he had become very ill and people out in that area wanted to organize a meet for him so he could participate in the thriving Osaka car scene and experience it for himself. He was a big fan of American car culture as well thanks to the popular movie franchise and his favorite magazine was Super Street. His favorite car? The legendary R34 Skyline. Yasu asked me if I could get these photos up for the boy to see so that he could relive the moment when he was back in the hospital. Maybe he would provide him with strength and motivation to move forward. I told him he didn’t even have to ask and I would do everything in my power to get these up as soon as possible…

I simply cannot even imagine what this boy has gone through in his short-life so far and what his parents and family have had to endure. It is incredibly saddening to see such a young child go through this much. Things are out of his hands and he has simple been forced to deal with the hand that he was dealt. I know many of my friends have kids and it strikes a cord in all of us whenever we see stuff like this because we are all very close. I love that Yasu and the guys over there came together to organize this event for the boy and his family because he deserves to be able to experience as much as he can with whatever time he has left. From chatting with Yasu, he tells me that the boy was pretty weak and was incredibly nervous to be around so many people at one time because he had spent much of his life in the hospital. On top of that, there was just a lot for him to take in that he wasn’t quite ready for. Originally, it was planned for him to leave the hospital for two hours to be at the meet but he ended up staying for only 20 minutes. His body was just too weak and the loud exhaust notes made him a bit nervous and wore him out. Hopefully he can look back at these photos and remember the night where a dedicated group of car people got together in support of him. I just heard last night that the boy wasn’t doing so well and maybe has only a couple days to a week left. It is incredibly heart-wrenching to hear but we pray for his health and continue to provide hope that he will be better…

Thanks to Yasu and all the car guys out in Japan who got together that night for the boy and his family. At the end of the day, it is more than just cars that we care about and the relationships we build is what makes this community so great. Below are some photos captured from that night. Enjoy…

Here’a great group shot of those in attendance by Genki Yunoue….

Remember everyone, life is a very precious thing. Make sure to make the most of it and live it everyday with those who you care about. And never be afraid to tell or show someone your appreciation for them, because you just never know when it might be the last time you see them. Thanks for looking…
