Wreckin’ Meet Japan 2016 Coverage… Part 3…

What’s up all! Back again with some more coverage that I dug-up from the 2016 Wreckin’ Meet, shot by my friend Shota Mori. Today I’m actually gonna let him give you some words about the event since he was actually there. It’s all translated but I’ll try to paraphrase it as much as I can…

“I always get excited about the JDM scene in the United States. In Japan, car enthusiasts are equally as excited about USDM culture. It continues to grow day-by-day with new car owners, builders, as well as automotive photographers. Unfortunately, there are starting to become fewer and fewer events. The reason for this is due to complaints from nearby residents of the venue because of exhaust noise. It also seems that there are less spectators too, maybe because custom car culture is still commonly recognized as a negative thing by non-car people. They just don’t recognize this hobby as true culture in Japan. This time around, I introduce to everyone the Wreckin’ Meet 2016 coverage, located in Toyama Prefecture, which is about 400km (about 250 miles) from Tokyo. Toyama Prefecture is located on the west coast of Japan. The guys from Lowballers Japan are actually from here. This show is an ongoing event series continued in recent years. New school Euro cars seem to gather in large numbers for this event. There is even a building that around the venue that looks European that is popular with Euro car guys. I enjoyed the event except the weather. A big typhoon hit during the morning of the event which made it difficult to shoot without worrying about breaking the camera. I was wondering whether or not to go, but many of my friends had decided to enter their cars. Since many of my friends came from far away, I met up with them on the way to Toyama. Near Toyama is a neighboring province known as Nigata Prefecture. I have some cool friends from that area and their cars are all very clean and modified simply. Most of them have also owned their cars for a long period of time. I appreciate and respect their spirit.” -Shota Mori
