Hopefully you guys enjoyed the newest Vlog episode. If you haven’t please try to give it a watch, I think you guys will enjoy it. It’s one of those episodes that may feel foreign to some, because they’re so used to me covering mostly Honda-related content on here, but I think people forget that I’m just a car guy that enjoys all different makes and models. Even though The Chronicles was built on the foundation of great Honda builds, I’ve always dabbled with other styles and makes of vehicles. Hell, coming to you as a ‘Honda guy’, I currently own a Nissan, Toyota, and a Honda—and my Honda is the only car that isn’t heavily modified. I just love cars and through my many journeys all over the world documenting car culture, I’ve come to appreciate so many different sub-genres…
One of the main reasons why I started this site was to not only cover automotive tuning culture as a whole, but specifically the adventures that I have experiencing the culture with my friends. It’s to provide my audience with a very specific behind-the-scenes look at a lot of the cars you’ve come to be familiar with online. I’m thankful I have so many dedicated automotive enthusiasts as friends but I’m even more thankful that my friends have diverse tastes and style. Most aren’t just into Hondas and as you may have noticed over the years, they all dabble in different cars. I think the variety within my circle helps all of us to appreciate what one another brings to the table and helps to continue the admiration we have for all types of automotive builds…
Recently I’ve been covering more content in the subculture that is grassroots drifting because Yuta and Phil have been working specifically on getting Phil’s S2000 to slide. This chassis is known for being especially tricky when it comes to getting them to drift and it was Yuta’s mission to understand all the nuances of the car to get it to be less twitchy on the track. Phil has always been a great driver, having become one of the more established drivers to come from the Chicago-area, but when he moved out here to California a few years back, he found himself in an S2000. The itch to go drifting grew as he continued to do more grip driving in his S2000 so they decided to dedicate a good amount of time into getting the chassis to go sideways. You guys have seen the results of that over the past few months, and though there are still many who declare that an S2000 is not a drift car, I think we’ve done a good job in proving otherwise…
When I was thinking about attending my first-ever Club Handz event a few weeks ago, one of the people who actually hit me up was Phil. He said that he wanted to drive at the event and since I was thinking about going anyway, it would work out because I could also help him carry some extra tires that he planned to burn through. Der also wanted to shoot some film stuff at the event since he’s been completely dedicated to photography lately so I dragged him along with us. As I mentioned in Part 1, I’m so glad I was able to finally experience Club Handz. My boy Kam is one of my favorite people so whenever I can support him in any of his endeavors, I’ll definitely try my best to be there. This year has been an absolute mess but one of the major takeaways for me personally was being able and present to spend quality time with my friends…
On that note, here are the rest of the photos from my adventures to Apple Valley Speedway. Enjoy!…
Picking up right where we left off in Part 1 with Jack Wischmeyer and Kemritte Seang’s tandem AE86 run…
Meanwhile a newer 86 was beached in a dirt section of AVS while others drove by…
Huge props to JR for taking his TE out again after the roll-over flattened his roof and broke his windshield. Not really sure how enjoyable this run was with all the dirt coming into the car as he drove but it looked like an absolute blast, haha….
Eventually we were able to get Kemritte and Phil out together on the track for some tandem runs, which made for some pretty solid shots…
Kam leading the way with Phil close behind…
Wischmeyer joined in soon after with the AE86 and S2000 leading…
When I say that Apple Valley Speedway isn’t particularly the best track to drive on, I mean that there are literally massive potholes on the course. This is on the long straight where guys pick-up the most speed…
At least they highlighted it with a cone so drivers know…
Philstar going off super hard after the long straight. This is when he went off and cracked the GoPro that we had mounted to the side of the hard top…
The dust trails made for some good effect, I guess. If you look closely, you can see how the GoPro has shifted from the S2000 going off…
It didn’t stop Phil from driving though as he got right back on the track and continued to rip it…
A couple more of Ricky’s 1JZ-GTE powered Itasha-styled 240SX…
I absolutely love the G-Corporation front face and brick headlights on Jacob Castro’s S13 coupe…
The back end of the coupe doesn’t look to shabby either with the bulky trunk-mounted Wangan-style wing and clear taillights. The small re-lipped SSR wheels and chunky tires also add a very unique, very period-perfect, look to the build…
Phil liked the S13 so much that he went off course again while watching Castro drive in front of him…
Didn’t even realize I took so many photos of the car but it is just so photogenic that I couldn’t pass it up…
After Phil came back, we were able to assess the damages. The glass protector for the GoPro cracked from debris-impact but it was still in 100% working order and I went on to see it the following day at Super Lap Battle with no issues…
The S2000, on the other hand, has seen better days, lol. The paint on the front bumper has cracked and started to flake-off, there’s now a hole in it from Phil tapping the rear of an 86, but surprisingly, the BackYard Special front lip is 100% percent okay…
Kam told me that Club Handz is all about the vibes and as the sun started to set, you could definitely feel it…
As the day winded down, guys began to load-up to get ready for the trek home from the desert that is Apple Valley, California…
After JR took the car out for a few sessions, we were finally able to get a closer-look at his TE after the big roll-over…
Most of the damage was all up front, and up top, while the rear looked pretty intact…
Upon closer-inspection, you can see the crumpled roof and how it began to wrap around the front of the Corolla’s roll cage…
You don’t see as much of the damage at a glance from the side-profile but you can begin to see the denting of the roof edge…
Though the car was repainted, the yellow from its previous iteration can still be seen from the inside. The custom dash that Kam set-up when he owned the car previously was still very much in working order…
The busted windshield from JR’s Corolla after it was removed from the chassis, being that the roof was pushed-in and no longer fit the frame…
Random shot of e_ought’s rear hatch on his RPS13…
I very much enjoyed the community-vibe and togetherness of the Club Handz x LSD event. Here, Joshua Behrens and friends worked as a unit to help load-up his RPS13 into the trailer…
Kam had a couple drinks and was feeling real good so he took his AE86 out one last time before they closed the track as the sun set on Apple Valley…
Caesar Quiocho’s Type-X look S13 in action spinning the tires on his bronze TE37/LMGT4 mismatch combo…
Towards the end of the day, Karl from Toyo Tires showed-up to have some fun in his Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor which he purchased, and his currently building, for the Spec P71 Racing Series. The Spec P71, for those who don’t own Crown Vics, is a one-make racing series completely centered around the Ford Panther platform…
It’s always fun to see Karl out on the track with that Crown Vic but it was really more of an opportunity to get some chase photos with Phil’s S2000…
I think sometimes we forget how small S2000s are until you put them next to a ‘normal-sized’ vehicle like a Crown Victoria…
If this isn’t the most random car to see on the track at a drift event, I don’t know what is…
I wonder how guys who didn’t actually know Karl feel about looking in their rear-view mirror and seeing a Crown Vic chasing them, lol…
I don’t know how I feel about the track conditions at AVS, but when the sun sets, boy does that place look really fucking scenic, lol…
On that note, that’s a wrap on this event. Hope you guys enjoyed it, I know drifting is never something you guys are used to seeing on this site but I like a variety of things and it is nice to add a more diverse line-up of content here. Thanks for looking!!…
