Wekfest LA 2012 Coverage…Part 3: The People, The Cars, The Afternoon…

Let’s just skip all the hoopla and just dive right into the coverage. There is so much good content to come that I really just want to keep the momentum going so that the coverage has a seamless feel to it. In part 1, we covered the day prior to Wekfest where you guys had a chance to see all the prep work involved and in part 2, I provided  you with coverage from the morning of the event. Today is going to be a little different…I will cover  a good chunk of what went on in the early afternoon but will do so by providing photos of the people that were involved with the Wekfest LA event. You guys should all know by now that I love to cover not just the cars, but the people and everything else surrounding the events I go to. I think that getting to know your fellow enthusiasts is important and that’s why I’ve gotten to know all types of different car heads from all over the world. Part 3 is going to have a much more personal feel. If you are here strictly for photos of cars, then I invite you to just come back tomorrow because you’re going to be seeing a whole lot of people today. With that said, let’s get moving…

I’ve limited the site to just one post per page because of the volume of photos per post so if you happened to have missed any of the parts from the Wekfest LA 2012 Coverage, click below to catch-up…

Wekfest LA 2012 Coverage…Part 1: Show Prep…

Wekfest LA 2012 Coverage…Part 2: The Morning…

Now on with Part 3: The People, The Cars, and The Afternoon…

IMG_0670

Jay Powers and Chris Sakai’s Civics ready to shine in the afternoon…

IMG_0638

Ken from Weksos sad about something apparently while speaking with ATS Garage members Fred Chapman and Anh Truong…

IMG_0642

Anh snapping a photo of ICB Matt and our two friends from Japan, Tetsuya Yamaguchi from USDM Jam and Takeshi from Type_K Autosource. They were fully entrenched in the USDM lifestyle and eating fried food and BBQ stuff that they probably shouldn’t be consuming…

IMG_0650

Happy to see that people were down to rock their Chronicles tees at the show…

IMG_0648

Nice little Ruckus with a custom Bride seat…

Okay, for those of you who don’t know Anh from ATS Garage with the black ITR, he’s actually a super religious guy and spends much of his free time not only being a good father, but also as a youth minister at his church. When it comes to car shows, there are always women involved…women that aren’t wearing much clothing, so Anh can’t always just go home and show photos of his car from the car shows he attends because his car can be a magnet for import models. Even when his ITR was featured in Super Street magazine a couple years back, he had to put Post-It notes over the girls in the magazine so that he could go back to show it to his church friends…

There was a point in the afternoon when there was an unnamed breezie floating around that proceeded to climb all over Anh’s engine bay for photos. Being that I wanted to keep photos of his car G-rated so he could show his family and friends, I decided to “modify” her attire…

IMG_0657

Anh’s daughter is a huge Dora the Explorer fan, so Dora did a little modeling for Anh’s Integra…

Haha in reality though, here are some actual shots I got minus the Dora transformation…

IMG_0658

IMG_0656

I don’t know how Anh felt about this chick climbing all over his ITR but she just put her body parts all over it without even asking…knees, elbows, etc…

IMG_0659

The guys were kinda laughing about it because they knew Anh would be a little weird considering the circumstances. It was all fun and games until I looked to my right and saw this old dude gawkin’….man with hand in pocket feel cocky all day, you know what I’m sayin’…haha…

IMG_0644

While all that was going on, Ken from Wekfest was also feeling cocky all day, but talking to ATS*FCB aka Fred Chapman… Hologram Tupac was performing that day as well, trying to relive his 15 minutes of fame from a couple months ago, but nobody gave a shit…

IMG_0664

Liked this shot that I took of Anh’s CE28s and Endless brakes. Nice to see it all cleaned up after that long drive from Norcal…

IMG_0665

A shot of the teal horns of Anh’s individual throttles…

IMG_0666

Johnny Wong from Super Street magazine, only dude who was down to wear a jacket all day at a sunny ass event…

IMG_0667

Super Street’s special guest, Noriko “Coco” Komatsu, who flew in all the way from Japan just to hang out at Wekfest LA…

IMG_0677

Random shot of Jay Powers’ radiator setup…

IMG_0679

I wanted to show you guys this shot of Lloyd Morales’ interior of his S14 because I wanted you guys to check out the coating on the dash. It’s almost like a felt like material that Lloyd says is a spray. It comes out pretty nice and he says that it is very durable… Might be something for you guys to look into if you are looking to redo your dashboards without having to re-wrap or paint them…

IMG_0680

Sakai’s Regamaster Evo…

IMG_0684

Not really sure what PG+K Jay was doing in this shot…probably just caught him at the wrong moment, haha… Tokenphoto Mike to the right of him…

IMG_0686

Michael Mao with the NSX along with David aka DeviousCTR stopping by to check out some of the ATS x DPK builds…

IMG_0693

JDM Wong working the Super Street booth in his white limited edition Osaka JDM tee…

IMG_0703

Speaking of which, here is Kazuhiro Furukawa from Osaka JDM taking in the Wekfest festivities… He flew over from Japan to check out the show and from the looks of it, he and his friends had a really good time…

IMG_0709

There was Osaka JDM gear available to the public all day at the Super Street booth…

IMG_0704

A shot from the waterfront to an opposite end of the show…

IMG_0706

Big Abe was torturing his own neck once again, carrying a big ass wheel around his neck all day and stopping to take pictures with fans…

At this point in the afternoon, it was time to go grab some lunch. If you remember last year, I got trapped on the public bus for a good chunk of the afternoon because we somehow got on the wrong one that sent us on a tour of downtown Long Beach. I was kind of reluctant to leave the show this year because I didn’t want the same thing to happen. We hadn’t really had a chance to eat all day though and we had baby Maddox with us, so we set off to take the free transit down to the Pike, a spot down in Long Beach that had a couple of restaurants…

We decided to grab some BBQ from Famous Dave’s and got our hand stamps at the gate so we could re-enter when we got back…

IMG_0712

Big Mike saying hi to baby Maddox…

IMG_0716

Maddox all smiles…

IMG_0720

A shot on the free Long Beach transit bus…

I didn’t take too many photos at the restaurant because it was pretty dark inside. Our buddies Ejay, Parnell, and J Nepo happen to be on their way to the show so we told them to stop by and hang out…

IMG_0723

Ejay and Parnell inside Famous Dave’s…

IMG_0724

This shot came out completely blurry but I thought it was cool to capture the moment…

IMG_0727

J Nepo listening to one of Big Mike’s many stories…

IMG_0732

A shot of the pier on our way back to the bus…

IMG_0735

Really liked this shot of baby Maddox…

IMG_0738

The Queen Mary, which can be seen in the distance from the venue…

IMG_0740

Aquabus II that many of the others took on their 4 hour lunch that I’m glad I wasn’t a part of…haha…

IMG_0745

IMG_0750

A couple shots of Australian model Debbie Sath, who was also a special guest at the Super Street booth…

IMG_0756

Neil Tjin from Tjin Edition…

IMG_0758

Not really sure who this was…just happened to catch her at the right moment…

IMG_0763

Chaba in deep thought…

IMG_0767

Holly Lee looking dapper as always…

IMG_0776

Teddy’s EK with First Molding lip, Livesports rear wing, and Sprint Hart CP-Rs representing FX Auto Design…

IMG_0779

Karl’s S2000 with ASM front bumper and aggressively sized Work Meister S1s…

IMG_0783

Always been a fan of this S13 hatchback…

IMG_0784

Junior from Wekfest riding around the show on his bike…

IMG_0787

RC’s 4-door K-turbo Civic with Mugen aero and Mugen MF8s…..

IMG_0789

IMG_0791

IMG_0792

He’s recently changed up some stuff in his engine bay…

IMG_0795

Crazy H22 swap with a flipped cylinder head on individual throttle bodies…

IMG_0671

My buddy Brian from Auto Concept Elite and his friend Emmarose aka S2k_grl… I don’t know what he was trying to accomplish in this photo but me thinks he does some aggressive nose-picking with that hand…

IMG_0798

Acura RL on Rennen Forged wheels that you saw a photo of from Part 2…

IMG_0802

Custom supercharged Lexus LS that I failed to get an exterior shot of…why, I don’t know…

IMG_0804

A shot of Michael Mao’s custom exhaust and dual intercooler set-up on his NSX…

IMG_0808

Big Mike reppin’ Wek’Sos on his front bumper along with a bit of bird shit…

IMG_0809

His wild Bisimoto header set-up with individual wideband O2 sensors..

IMG_0812

A better shot of his bay…

IMG_0817

A couple of heavy hitters in the Honda community…

IMG_0819

DPK David and Freddie from Autofashion…

IMG_0821

Lexus IS350 slammed on white-faced Work Meister S1…I know crazy stanced out cars are all the rage these days but in my opinion, this is near perfect wheel fitment…

IMG_0825

Abe Cruz’s interpretation of a U.S. EK9 R…

IMG_0830

Closing it out for today with a shot of my favorite LS430 right now from Squadone…

That’s all for today folks, hope you enjoyed it…back with more tomorrow!…

  6. I always love your coverage from the shows. I almost feel like I know everyone. I’m coming out to Eibach this weekend so I look forward to stopping by the booth and saying hello.

  7. I can see a mark of her leg on the cooling plate.
Hope she didn’t dent it aswell…
Great pics and coverage as always! Tnx!

  8. Lol that poor model, that’s what happens when you don’t ask before molesting someone’s car! Still not as bad as the oil ass print on that z from a few posts back! The Dora explorer Edit was funny as hell though! Again awesome coverage, I wish shows in Houston were at that level.

  9. Tupac hologram even made it to WekFest!

  10. awesome coverage joey. love the tupac hologram chillin near the water!

  11. flocked dashboards are cool…to do it proper like a race car it needs to be done with an electrostatic gun…i remember looking this up back in 05 and the units were expensive and a quick search shows that there are cheaper ways to do it now but I’m sure they don’t have the same durability or quality of a real electrostatic flocked dashboard.

any info on that flipped head h22?? that looks bitchin…reminds me of the old touring car honda accords =]

  12. @vrocsone, damn, I’m so intrigued by this. I recall reading about this back in the days, but didn’t quite understood it then. Thought it was just a hardcore race thing to do for Super Touring. This is giving me ideas for the street. What does Bisi think about this?
