The Chronicles Tokyo 2015 Coverage…Part 6: A Visit To ASM Yokohama…

We normally don’t attend the Tokyo Auto Salon event on the third and final day because we had basically already walked the entire show multiple times the previous two days. Sure there is always something we missed or something we should buy but I think with all the madness that came from Days 1 and 2, I was pretty much over the whole idea of being at TAS. I was informed that the third day is usually the busiest as well because it is considered a day off for many Japanese so they all flock to Tokyo Auto Salon. I honestly have never seen it this busy before in all the years that I’ve been going but it is great to see how much interest still lies in this mega event…

Instead of going to TAS ’15, I took the group on a littler excursion over to Yokohama to check out Autobacs ASM for the first time. I’ve always wanted to go there but it just never worked out. This time around Aaron Wang from Go-Tuning Unlimited was over there a meeting so we decided to meet up with him. With him there, we would pretty much have an all-access look inside ASM and all of its little workings. The place isn’t very big but it is just gorgeous. The way the showroom is displayed is very elegant and classy. The bay where they work on the cars is also incredibly nice, with the floors lined in hardwood and even the working table where they package things was wrapped in Recaro fabric. Yokohama is a pretty nice area so the shop just fits perfectly in that city…

Today we’re going to look at the photos that I collected during our visit to ASM. If you guys missed the Vlog documenting this visit, I have also attached it in this post. Make sure to watch that and go over the photos to really get a good idea of what ASM is like. After ASM, we make a stop over at a Super Autobacs store where J’s Racing was throwing a small gathering. The rest of the day was pretty relaxing and that is exactly what we needed after the shark tank that was Tokyo Auto Salon 2015. Enjoy the content and have a good weekend folks…

After we got off the train at Yokohama Station, we started our walk to ASM. On the way there, we spotted this really nice Toyota Aristo Vertex Edition. You could tell that it was modded but it still looked very subtle. Probably one of those Aristos that you just enjoy on the Wangan late at night…

IMG_4934-Edit

Besides the front bumper and added side piece, the Aristo also had gold BBS LM wheels and a carbon rear spoiler…

IMG_4935-Edit

We got a closer look and realized that it was no regular Aristo. It was actually a car that was prepared at Revolfe S.A., a local car shop in the Yokohama area…

IMG_4936-Edit

After we all looked at the Aristo, we moved on down the street to ASM…

IMG_4944-Edit

Welcome to Autobacs ASM Yokohama…

IMG_4946-Edit

Outside was a trio of AP2 S2000s, some were probably customer cars and one in particular was an ASM demo car…

IMG_4947-Edit

This AP2 featured an ASM front bumper and silver Volk RE30s. It also had a carbon Mugen hood that has been color-matched to the body….

IMG_4951-Edit

S2000 Type-S (CR here in the states) on matching white Prodrive wheels…

IMG_4954-Edit

ASM and Recaro almost go hand in hand here as ASM is one of the exclusive distributors of the brand in Japan…

IMG_4956-Edit

“TO THE STAGE THAT NO ONE COULD REACH. YES, WE CAN!!….

IMG_4958-Edit

Here’s a really cool piece that was just sitting inside ASM. This model S2000 was actually built by Mugen specifically for wind tunnel testing….

IMG_4963-Edit

Under the makeshift hood is a piece that looks identical to a Mugen intake set-up…

IMG_4965-Edit

…and in the rear you can see the Mugen rear spoiler. Awesome collectible to have that really tells its own story….

IMG_4966-Edit

A peek into the work area shows their time attack S2000 being worked on….

Eventually they let us into their work area and just let us do whatever we wanted to….

Awesome to finally see this vehicle in person and to photograph it…

IMG_5038-Edit

This is the carbon fiber front splitter for the ASM Time Attack S2000. They said when it is mounted correctly, about three guys can stand on it and it’ll support the weight without breaking….

IMG_5025-Edit

So many intricate little details on this car that you really just have to see in person to appreciate…

IMG_5044-Edit

Moving on…

IMG_5082-Edit

After hanging out at ASM for a bit (hopefully you watched the vlog), we hopped on the train for a couple stops before arriving at a Super Autobacs store in Yokohama. For those that don’t know, Super Autobacs is basically like the Target (insert popular department store name here) of their car community. They offer everything from the most basic necessities to the most expensive aftermarket tuning parts. This is a one-stop shop for car guys. You can buy oil for your oil change and leave with a set of Endless brakes!! We actually had one in the U.S. a couple of years ago but it failed due to poor sales and shut down in 2009. It was a cool store with everything anyone could ask for, it was just a little too pricey for car guys who could easily go and buy the same stuff online for cheaper….

Today Super Autobacs was hosting a small shindig in their parking lot alongside J’s Racing. There weren’t a whole lot of cars there but we showed up pretty late. I suspect there were more cars there early in the afternoon but there were still some cars that were worth a look…

IMG_5081-Edit

J’s Racing Honda Fit demo car right up front at the J’s gathering…

IMG_5083-Edit

Fucking Salem and Murakami from J’s Racing…

IMG_5089-Edit

IMG_5106-Edit

J’s Racing themed CL7 Accord Euro-R…

IMG_5113-Edit

Really random and awesome to see a Mitsubishi Delica on bronze Volk TE37s….

IMG_5139-Edit

I spotted this R34 sedan as it pulled into the Autobacs lot and waited for the guy to leave before capturing this photo of it as the sun set….

IMG_5112-Edit

The others spent most of their time walking around inside and trying to find random things to buy. I went back and forth hoping to catch some more cool cars that came into the meet….

After Autobacs, we actually got lost for about an hour or so before walking through an entire Nissan automotive display gallery and hopping on the train back to our area…

On tap for dinner that night was some really delicious and really pricey Japanese beef aka Wagyu. The cuts of meat are from a Wagyu cattle and is known for its quality and marbelization… This isn’t something we get to eat often so we made sure to try it at least once while in Japan….

IMG_5140-Edit

Premium Wagyu beef tongue…

IMG_5147-Edit

Toss it on the grill for a couple of seconds, do one-flip to eat the other side, and consume right away with lime and salt…

IMG_5148-Edit

Thicker cut of the 2nd highest rated beef. The higher the quality the more marble you see in the meats… They were out of the #1 cut and later after we ate this, they ran out of this cut also…

IMG_5158-Edit

…eventually we had to move onto cut #3 which was probably still #1 compared to most beef we consume here at home…

Well, that’s all for today. I’ll be in Hawaii for the weekend but I still have some updates coming for you guys so stay tuned. The next update features the next Vlog episode covering our visit to Spoon Sports and TYPE ONE!…
