I sit here and just think about all the photos that weren’t taken this year at Wekfest East. It’s been days and I’m still annoyed with myself, lol. But it is one of those things that I can’t really go back and change so I’ll just have to make adjustments going forward. People have offered to second-shoot for me and get coverage when I can’t but I just prefer to have my own photos on my site. I’ve had guest photographers in the past, albeit sparingly, but I feel like the site has such a consistent look over the years that I don’t want to change that. I also don’t feel like enthusiasts who have their cars captured would have that same feeling had it been shot by someone else. I don’t say that to sound cocky or anything, I just think people want their cars on this site shot by me and me alone. We are both of the understanding that this site represents my body of work and if they want to be a part of that body of work, it has to be captured authentically by me. I think the big issue now is that I’m so obsessed with getting video and capturing b-roll that it does eat up a lot of my time in the mornings. We also changed the format of how people roll-in this year too so it took some adjusting on my end to figure out where everyone was. I don’t want to keep going on about it so I’ll stop here, but I sincerely apologize for the lack of coverage. I know that people were excited to see what was out there after I was gone for so long and wanted to see a lot of photos. Trust me, I’m working on something that will help me cast a brighter spotlight on the East Coast car community. Just stick with me and understand that I’m doing my best over here…
With all that rambling out of the way, I invite you to watch the Vlog episode if you have already seen it. It serves as coverage in itself and provides a glimpse of some more builds that I didn’t get in photos. I think everyone is tired of hearing about the accident that happened after the event, and it’s old news now, so there’s no need to touch on it. If you do want to hear my thoughts on it, I address it at the end of the Vlog episode. I just hope everyone recovers and the one involved turned himself in to the authorities. It’s the right thing to do…
Here are the rest of the photos that I snapped that day. These pick-up right where Part 1 left-off. Enjoy!…
Markee Tin’s Spoon Sports-EVERYTHING EK9 Type R-converted Honda Civic hatchback. One of the rare times you’ll encounter the aluminum center caps from the Desmond Regamaster EVO on a Spoon SW388…
Rudi’s Spoon-styled Civic with EP3 Civic Type R conversion, Shift Sports carbon vented hood, and white Volk CE28N wheels…
Josh’s JDM RHD EF Civic sedan representing Akebono here in the U.S running a Civic Shuttle/Wagon front bumper paired with an SI lip…
One of the more unique aspects of Josh’s Civic are these custom re-barreled OEM Honda wheels…
Chris Acosta’s track-bred, fully-caged, B18C-powered ’97 Civic sedan running a custom front splitter, custom vented hood, and GroupB Unlimited NC-01 wheels…
More of Marvin Ma’s HKS GT Supercharged AP2 S2000 wearing an ASM front bumper, ASM vented hood, ASM rear over fenders, Powerhouse Amuse Legalo Face front fenders, J’s Racing side skirts, J’s Racing rear wing, Spoon Sports rear diffuser, Spoon Sports mirrors, and Volk Racing RE30 wheels paired with a front Renegade Motorsports x APG big brake kit…
Just looking at the AP2 and describing that parts selection alone would probably lead you to believe that Marvin won “S2000 of the Festival”—which he ultimately did at this year’s Wekfest East…
Desmond Regamaster EVO wheels were definitely a popular choice this year…
A look at the rear-end of Los’ turbocharged K-swapped Integra while he looked right at me. He later ended the day winning the overall “Judge’s Choice” award, which was essentially the runner-up to best of show…
George Gomez’s Championship White NA2 NSX running a JP USA front lip, Spoon Sports Aero mirrors, Downforce NSX-R style hood, JDM NSX-R headlights, and Downforce NSX-R rear wing. The wing has also been color-matched to Champ White with a Rocket Bunny carbon gurney flap molded-in for an even more one-off look…
ASM aero looks so good on AP2s and give the S2000 so much presence. The Wasp Composite splitter also gives it more of an aggressive appeal…
Dalton’s EF Civic encapsulates that true Japanese spirit with the custom center-exit exhaust which is quite common on Osaka-based Civics. I love that the rear bumper has also been customized as well to eliminate the factory exhaust provision…
Ismael Camilo’s turbocharged J’s Racing-themed DC5 RSX Kouki on 18-inch Desmond Regamaster EVO II wheels. Not sure many of you can notice but he also has FK8 Civic Type R Brembo brakes retrofitted in the front…
A couple more photos of the BN Sports JZX100 Toyota Cresta on 3-piece Work Meister wheels…
It’s the subtle details that count for Honda builds like this. Sitting above George’s staggered Regamaster EVO wheels are factory OEM JDM NSX front fenders and rear quarter panels. Shape-wise they are the same as USDM models but the main difference is the lack of amber front side-marker lights and rear red side-marker lights on the Japanese versions. Instead of the gigantic amber side-marker, the JDM front fenders have a more traditional, much smaller, amber marker…
Chris Kane’s Midnight Purple II R34 Skyline GTR V-Spec running a pair of bronze Volk TE37 wheels on the driver’s side, and a pair of original white TEs on the other…
One of my favorites from this year’s Wekfest East was this stock-body X80 Chaser sitting aggressively on Volk TE37SL wheels. The exterior didn’t even have any other additions other than the visual ride height and wheels. The engine bay was very well-executed and still retained a 1JZ-GTE powerplant as well. I wish I had more opportunities to get more details photos of it that day because it stood-out, even without any aero additions…
This doggie riding with its owner on a Ruckus was one of the most adorable and random things I saw that morning. I literally walked over to the gate to drink some coffee, looked-up and saw this dog staring right at me…
Apparently this is a pretty common thing for both dog and owner as they ride everywhere together…
I’m more partial to the GR86 platform but I do always enjoy me a clean Toyota 86 build. This Kouki 86 looked great with a GReddy front lip, TRD V2 sides, TRD fender aero fins, what looks to be a TRD rear lip, rare JUN Auto carbon mirrors, and white Volk TEs…
Imported 1992 Nissan Cima repainted in custom Dark Fuscia Metallic sitting static via Fortune Auto coilovers on 18-inch SSR Koenig wheels…
Once most of the cars rolled-in, I made my way inside thinking I’d start getting detail shots of cars that caught my eye inside the building. The first build I wanted to get a closer look at was Tony Salcedo’s VSM EK9 Civic Type R. He had built a pretty nice blue EG Civic in the past so I was eager to see what he’d done with an EK9 chassis. Surely he did not disappoint. The outside was simple, needing not change the rare silver EK9 much, but the OEM front bumper was replaced by a BackYard Special front bumper. Spoon Sports carbon fiber mirrors were a must to go with his Spoon Sports brakes and Spoon-themed engine bay. The bronze from the Mugen MF10 wheels adds good contrast and a peek inside reveals a pair of Mugen MS-Z seats…
Under the Spoon Sports carbon fiber hood is a B16B set-up filled with practically everything the Spoon catalog had to offer…
That includes a Spoon Sports valve cover, Spoon Sports oil cap, Spoon cooling hoses, Spoon header, Spoon oil cap, Spoon spark plug wires, Spoon carbon kevlar intake arm, Spoon radiator cap, Spoon reservoir socks, and Spoon strut bar. As you can see, there’s a theme going on here. I also like how he acquired an Optima yellow-top battery to match the valve cover…
I thought I would have time to shoot some more but then I was called-up to the front to do the judges meeting and after that, it was just nonstop judging and chatting with car-owners. As I mentioned before, I didn’t even have the opportunity to pick up the camera again until after the awards ceremony. That’s how crazy the day was. I did manage to get some photos outside though, until of course, the owner of the BMW 3-series wagon decided to run over two people and kill an innocent turtle. After that it was just damage control and making sure everyone was okay…
Caught a quick photo of the C6 Corvette on Volk TE37SL wheels as it was leaving. Such a good look and good sizing for that chassis…
One more of the BN Sports JZX100 Cresta…
The bright green Liberty Walk LB-Silhouette R35 GTR heading off into the sunset…
The new makeover of Andres’ EK4 SiR worked out great helping to give the Civic a more aggressive appearance with the addition of a First Molding front lip, First Molding hood, OsakaJDM mirrors, Seeker rear wing, and bronze 16-inch Volk TEs…
A couple days ago I responded to Kevin’s DM after noticing that I posted a photo of his Mugen-equipped Integra Type R on my Instagram feed. Soon after Kevin let me know that it was a DM he sent to me 3 years ago. I’m glad he finally got his response, lol…
Faction Motorsports-built Toyota Cressida drift car powered by a newer 1JZ-GTE VVTi engine swap which was on display at their booth…
The boys from SSB got together at the end of the day to get a group photo together outside after winning the Wekfest East “Car Crew of the Festival” award…
Nicholas Cruz’s K24-swapped Integra which has been wrapped in a green running a Special Projects front lip/splitter, Voltex GT wing, J’s Racing front fenders, and bronze Volk Racing CE28…
And with that, we reach the end of this photo set. I guess it’s only appropriate that the last photo I took that day featured a car with Florida license plates. Our next and final stop of this year’s Wekfest tour is in, you guessed it… Florida. It’s been a while since we were back so we hope it goes well and we get to see some nice builds out there. Now it is time to take a couple weeks off from traveling and then back on the road I go! Thanks for looking folks!…
