Welcome back to Part 2 of The Chronicles 2013 Japan Trip. We are just barely getting started so prepare yourselves for much more of this in the next week or two. I know I originally went to Japan to attend the Tokyo Auto Salon event but to be perfectly honest with all of you, my favorite parts of the trip was the events that happened outside of the TAS show. I was able to see a lot of Japan and build a ton of great memories with friends from both the U.S. and Japan. The friends that we met up with over there made this trip a truly enjoyable one and I’m anxious to go back to visit again…
Part 1 was very word-intensive and may have been a little overwhelming for some of you but today will be more image-based. Part 2 is all show coverage so you’ll only be seeing automotive content today. If you’re one of those people who really enjoy the behind-the-scenes stuff and like to see the candid moments from our trip, there is a whole lot of that coming soon. After the TAS coverage, basically half of the content will be car stuff and the other half will consist of everything else that went on during our trip…
If you missed out on Part 1, simply click on the link below to read through the beginning of my trip leading into the Tokyo Auto Salon event…
The Chronicles 2013 Japan Trip…Part 1: Intro and TAS 2013 Coverage…
Now here is more show coverage, enjoy…
We closed out Part 1 with the Ben Sopra/Tra Kyoto Nissan 380SX so it’s only fitting that we kick off Part 2 with another Ben Sopra car. This R35 GTR has the Ben Sopra widebody aero kit and is prepped by Nichiei Racing Project for the D1 Grand Prix drift series…
NA2 NSX on bronze Volk Racing RE30s…
Honda S2000 with a rarely seen Sorcery front bumper…
Toyota Chaser bagged on Work Meister S1 wheels from “High Quality Car Garege” (Not a typo on my part)…. Interesting use of the custom fender vents and how they run into the doors…
A couple of really cool Toyota 86 models on display in the Option vehicle display area…
Speaking of 86s, here is a pretty wild one from Ruf Racing Factory…
Nutty rear bumper and diffuser set-up displaying the dual exhaust set-up…
Toyota Prius Hybrid also from Ruf Racing Factory….
The Lamborghinis coming from Liberty Walk Japan are all the rage these days, and I get it, it’s pretty cool stuff but this one is a little too much for me. I believe this is driven by a female as well but come on man, the print really takes away from the LB aero…
Loved this custom gold Honda Odyssey on SSR Executor CV02s…
Weird color combo with the gold but the audio set-up was fucking intense!…
Murdered-out Toyota Vellfire van…
Toyota Estima presented by Avanzare…
Honda RA300 race car displayed at the NGK booth…
Loved the paint and custom body work on this Toyota 86 coupe. Cool to see VIP Modular have such huge representation in Japan…
Really hard to capture the paint on camera but you can see a bit of the goldish/orange flake in the red paint. Also note how wide the rear quarter is now…
Full-sized Toyota 86 caricature on display in a giant 86-dedicated section of the TAS show…
Kyosho had a full city model on display featuring all 86 diecast cars…
I didn’t get a chance to capture all of the 86s in that section because it was so crowded but I did manage to get some of the ones that realy caught my eye. The 86 you see above is an HKS demo car utilizing a custom carbon fiber Rocket Bunny kit, as opposed to the normal FRP kit. I’m not 100% certain but I believe this HKS demo car is the only one with the carbon variation of the kit…
Here’s the FRP version of the Rocket Bunny kit worn by the Trust/GReddy turbocharged demo vehicle…
Pretty crazy to see K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider on display in immaculate condition…
4-Door R32 Skyline on Volk Racing TE37SL…
Lexus LS600h from LXF Design…
Lexus GS F-Sport newly debuted by LXF Design…
There were tons of photos of this custom Toyota Police vehicle last year from Tokyo Auto Salon but it was really cool to see this Car Sense demo car in person. It’s just crazy and totally ridiculous but awesome to see…
S14 Silvia from Gloss Factory rocking 326 Power aero…
Matte purple Mode Parfume Toyota Aristo on SSR Professor MS3s…
LS600hs were definitely one of the star vehicles on display when it came to the VIP-styled cars…
URAS debuted its widebody Toyota 86 featuring a 2JZ-GTE swap…
Notice the pie-cut exhaust and the Plexi-glass wing stands… Another interesting tidbit is that the URAs vehicle was wearing a full Falken Tire livery but was on Dunlop tires. They merely painted the words “FALKEN” over the Dunlop logo, haha…
Kazuya Matsukawa’s Falken-sponsored Toyota Trueno drift car…
Gonna close-out Part 2 today with a look inside the Honda manfacturer display at Tokyo Auto Salon 2013…
I fucked-up the exposure on this photo but here is the ARTA Honda HSV-010 race car…
A better photo…
Honda CR-Z GT race vehicle…
1967 Honda RA300 race car looking as perfect as it did over 40 years ago…
Repsol Honda RC213V MotoGP bike…
One more of the RA300…
Honda’s S2000 “Modulo Climax” concept…
Very cool Honda Design Studio display…
Honda T360 pick-up truck…
Loved this Mugen CR-V “Design Study” concept vehicle which is rumored to go into production…
Honda of Japan is really high on their new N-One kei car. I didn’t even know these existed until I got to Japan and saw them at all the Honda dealerships we passed by…
…so it only made sense that Mugen debuted its N-One Racing Concept at TAS 2013…
Custom (kinda ugly) 16×7 Mugen wheels…
Side-exit exhaust…
Custom widebody aero and classic Mugen graphics. It’s honestly kind of an awkward looking little thing but I wouldn’t be surprised if it landed in the U.S. and became an instant hit…
Mugen-equipped Honda CB1300 Super Four ABS…
…and I’m gonna go ahead and cut it off here for today with a shot of the Raybrig HSV-010…
Thanks for looking, come back tomorrow for Part 3!…
Awesome photos!
Viewing them is almost like being there.
A trip to TAS is high priority on my bucket list. I must say, I am very glad that you are posting up photos and info of what all went down for you outside of the show. Of course the Salon and other car related things would be my main concerns while there, but obviously there are other things and events that would ensue as well. My biggest fear of going is the language barrier in Japan, so for people like me it’s cool to see how you got around, ate, etc.
Your blog is awesome, keep doing what you do. I’m in for more on this trip!
