Man, I gotta say, it feels good to be back posting content consistently. I mean, it also feels good to actually have things to go to where I can shoot and gather content as well, but there is just this sense of accomplishment that I feel when I do have something to show you guys. Back in the early years, before I could even shoot, I would just hope on every night and generate content with just words and random stupid shit that was going through my mind. I had all kinds of time back then being that I literally had NOTHING to do but sit at home in front of my computer but sometimes I wish I could go back to simpler times when I just had all kinds of time to post random shit I found on the web. A decade later, I’m still here having all kinds of fun with this site so I guess I really can’t complain. We all have to remember that times are different now as well and life has just become so streamlined with social media that people just don’t wake up and go on a website these days to look for updates. Most people just wake-up and the first thing they do is look at their various social accounts now and if there are updates, they will usually catch it there instead of going through the process of opening a browser to look at a website. Isn’t it crazy how something as simple as going to a website has been streamlined for your convenience now? That’s wild if you really put it into perspective. We used to worry about magazines dying off because people won’t even pick-up a hard copy to read. Now we gotta worry about websites dying off because people are too fucking lazy to open a browser and type in the first two letters of their favorite website…

Whatever the case may be, I hope you guys have actually made it over to the website today to see Part 2 of 2 of the Wekfest Atlanta 2018 coverage. This was my first time being out at an event in a while so I really tried to chase good photos instead of just shooting everything that was in front of me. There were various perspectives and angles that I really wanted to capture and I think I accomplished what I set out to do that morning. The rain made the early morning roll-in photos really dramatic and today we’ll be looking at the photos that I shot after I left the front entrance and started walking around inside the building. You’ll see many of the cars that you saw in Part 1 because these were the cars that caught my eye. I also had to squeeze in some time to get some video of the cars that I knew I didn’t get a chance to get a photo of and the Vlog will follow this post and be posted here and on YouTube this weekend…

The first Atlanta Wekfest was a good one. There were some issues due to the weather but it didn’t change the overall feel of the event. I think there is a lot of growth here that we will see come to fruition in future years if Wekfest does decide to come back. From chatting with the staff, I think they were pretty happy with their first endeavor in this area. I’d like to come back to see where this event goes and what it can become. As promised in Part 1, here are some more detailed photos of Jason Pham’s Vertex S15 from Emotion. By far….FAR…the most well-built, well-rounded, car at Wekfest Atlanta. Just everything from parts selection, execution of said-parts, color choice, engine set-up, interior, audio, EVERYTHING. A throwback to how award-winning cars were built in years-past while also being incredibly relevant to current times in terms of execution…

RB26DET swap inside the cleaned-up and repainted engine bay of the Silvia. Check out how the ARC Induction box has been refinished to match that of the wrinkle finish on the valve cover. Also note how the Induction Box is set-up to run to the turbo via custom piping utilizing Ticon titanium….

Pham’s Silvia also runs a Abbey Road Company radiator, front-mount intercooler, oil cap, and radiator cap to match the Induction Box. Mounted to the front strut bar are remote reservoirs for the Fortune Auto coilovers. The interesting thing is the titanium piping which runs to the intake manifold routed through the chassis. I wish I had the chance to show you guys the interior and trunk as well but I didn’t want to disturb them while they were cleaning the car up and by the time I went back, there were plenty of people around it studying it already…

One of my favorite builds at Wekfest Atlanta was actually this custom widebody Lexus IS. Love the quarter panel work and how the widened front fender runs into the custom front bumper….

Casey Whitaker’s Civic was one of the builds that I had anticipated seeing in person at Wekfest Atlanta. He had actually attended the Eibach Orlando event the day before with some friends and the three of them piled into the hatchback and made the trek up north from Florida to Georgia for Wekfest. Whitaker has had a Mugen-themed Integra and S2000 in the past, both of which were magazine-featured, if I remember correctly, so the guy knows his way around a Honda…

Under the hood of his Civic was a traditional B-series swap with a nice collection of parts including, but not limited to, a Mugen airbox, Mugen strut bar, Vision wire cover, and rare APEXi spark plug wires…

From this angle, you can see Casey’s TODA Racing header. I like how the engine bay is both cleaned-up but still retains that “OEM” feel running factory hardware, and a traditional half-radiator set-up with the factory-style hoses and clamps. I guess you can qualify this as more of a “resto-mod” type of build that is growing in popularity these days…

Alas, here are the more detailed photos of Mark Johnson’s wild Civic hatchback build which he completed just days before the Wekfest Atlanta event. He also attended both the Eibach Orlando event and Wekfest on the same weekend which meant that he made the trek from Florida to Georgia. The front bumper has been cut to expose the huge front-mounted intercooler, carbon fiber sheets have been cut to block-off vents in the bumper to bring air straight into the intercooler, and a custom front lip has been mounted for downforce. Spaced-out and cut front fenders provide clearance for the front-staggered Enkei RPF1 wheels, and as you can see, the doors have been removed so show attendees can get a look at the gutted interior of the Civic…

Here you can see the turbocharged B16A set-up with the dump pipe routed-out through the passenger-side front fender. On the bottom photo you can see the Skunk2 Race Series intake manifold as well as the custom radiator neck which we will get into a little bit more below. Also note that the distributor has been eliminated in favor of a coil-over-plug set-up which is direct-ignition via coil packs which likely come from a K-series engine…

From the cockpit you can see the digital display, which replaces the factory cluster, and a quick release steering set-up. The climate controls and radio have also been deleted and mounted in the center of the dash is an iPad. The Civic features a custom roll cage that runs into the dashboard…

The rear quarter glass, likely Flexilite Lexan or something similar, houses these dual-hosed NACA ducts on both sides….

The reasoning behind the use of the NACA ducts is that it routes air from the rear quarter glass straight into the rear, truck-mounted radiator. This set-up is a bit polarizing in that some would argue that it doesn’t help cooling that much or it might not be necessarily functional over a traditional cooling set-up but hey, to each their own. Mark decided he wanted to run this set-up and he does fully intend to race his Civic. I think he mentioned that he would be testing the car in the next few weeks so I guess we will see just how well it does…

A rear angle-look with the cut rear bumper and custom rear diffuser set-up. Mark was kind enough to cover-up the edges of his rear diffuser so that people walking by don’t end-up cutting their fucking legs off. Nobody wants to go to the hospital and have to explain to doctors, friends, and family that they’ve experienced leg amputation due to attending a car show with none-moving vehicles….

Some will like it, some won’t, some will have plenty to say about it but I’m glad Mark decided to take a risk and put a car together that he wanted to, based on his own ideas, and more importantly, by his own hands. The car is completely self-built and I can appreciate it for what it is. You can’t ever really truly hate on someone that has the same dreams as you just because they don’t choose the same route….

Gotta close things out with one more shot of the Wekfest Atlanta “Car of the Festival”, Jason Pham’s Midnight Purple Vertex S15. It was announced at this show that all future Wekfest “Car of the Festival” or “Best of Show” winners will be offered free entrance into any future Wekfest event with either the build that won the award or any future builds they may be putting together. Pretty cool idea, I think, and encourages enthusiasts to build at a higher level. Maybe we’ll see Pham’s S15 face some stiffer competition in the future, who knows, right? In the meantime, congrats to him and the Emotion car crew for the accolade. Thanks for looking folks and have a good weekend…
