The past few weeks have been more of a catch-up period for myself personally. I haven’t flown anywhere in a while so I’ve been trying to get situated at home with real life shit. Looking at all these photos from Attack make me miss Japan a little bit, but I’ve spent so much time there this year that I’m happy to just be sitting in front of my computer and catching up on shows on Netflix…
Around this time it always feels like a little bit of a gap between doing car stuff and just not doing absolutely anything, so I guess it works out quite nicely that I took so many photos at Tsukuba Circuit. Car show season is picking up over here in about a month so that’ll give me some more stuff to cover here on the site. While I’ve been at the office everyday, I’ve been hard at work on trying to finish up Volume 2 of my book and also trying to crank out more merch for the 2019 season. The Battlecraft/Chronicles shift knobs are getting packed-up this weekend and I finally received my new batch of hoodies so please make sure to hit up the storefront if you’re looking to get one…
Other than that, I guess you can say I’ve just been living life. Things are good but I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t getting a little antsy not shooting any videos or photos. Maybe once Kristian gets back from Japan on a non-car trip I can go and give you guys some updates on the Hybrid Racing Civic that is getting closer to completion. I don’t think you guys have seen any updates on it since we put it outside for the last Chronicles and Coffee meet last October. Hmm, actually, maybe we should do a meet over here at the shop before the car show season starts. I’ll talk to the guys about it and see when we have some time. This weekend there’s the Stanceworks open house too and Formula D Long Beach is coming up so we’d have to find an open Sunday or something to make that happen…
For now, enjoy some more photos from Attack Tsukuba featuring the Orangeball DC5 along with the ASM S2000 and much more!…
The Fura S2000 with its big front splitter and rear wing sitting atop three floor jacks while the Advan A050s stay heated via tire-warmers in the pits…
Parked in the number 7 stall was the beautifully-executed and incredibly fast N/A-powered ASM S2000…
‘&G Corporation’ SW20 MR-2 Turbo with one-off custom widebody aero built by ‘Samohan’ Nakajima…
One can never really go wrong with a stock-body BNR32 Skyline GT-R on Volk Racing TE37RT…
Furakawa from Five Mart’s personal Honda NSX lowered nicely on Enkei Racing NT03RR…
Kenneth Lau’s Canadian Integra Type R being looked over by the support crew…
The Garage Work EG Civic rolled-up to the Tsukuba paddock towards end of day, looking ready for competition day…
Garage Work front bumper, front canard amd splitter, paired with their widened front fenders for maximum width and tire fitment…
Tomiyoshi and his S2000 heading out to the grid on a fresh set of A050s still wrapped to avoid picking-up unnecessary debris…
The menacing front face of the ASLAN EG6…
Here you get a chance to see what it looks like in its full ‘competition’ set-up with the smaller TEs in the rear. You can also get a better understanding of how wide the front and rear are now…
18×11 Volk TE37SL wrapped on 295/35 Advan A050…
Massive front splitter and plenty of venting throughout the front end of the ASLAN Civic…
Auto Rescue Izu RX-7 parked on the grid once practice day ended and cars were holding their stalls in the paddock..
I thought this was a really cool shot of the Auto Rescue Izu FD and the ASLAN EG…
Nakajima’s MR-2 with its Gazoo-inspired livery. Gazoo Racing is Toyota’s motorsport subsidiary for those that don’t know. I’m sure you guys have heard the name pop-up more lately in media due to the upcoming release of the A90 Supra…
Garage Work Civic unloaded off the trailer. Love the Rays-produced TRD Sport wheels in the rear…
Some minor engine work on an R32 Skyline…
JZA80 Supra built and tuned by Pro Shop Rasty running an aggressive front splitter/canard combo and ARC front-mount intercooler. The rear has a chassis-mounted wing and no rear bumper…
The Orangeball DC5 Integra Type R was a pleasant surprise on Day 2 of Attack. Again, I really had no idea what to expect going to this event so seeing all these well-known Japanese time attack cars in one place was all a little overwhelming…
Next to the Orangeball ITR was another DC5R, this one with carbon doors and INGS+1 aero kit paired with a custom front splitter set-up…
The interior of that particular ITR received the swiss cheese treatment with as much metal on the body punched-out as possible while the body welds themselves have been reinforced with rivets for added rigidity….
Weight reduction is the idea here of course, with little amenities remaining. Even the dashboard has been taken out with just a engine harness and cluster sitting up front along with some aftermarket gauges to monitor the engine on the passenger side…
Also adding some reinforcement was a bolt-in roll cage. You can get a even better look at just how much metal was cut-out front this angle…
Again no dashboard at all, just a floating cluster, a trio of gauges, an HKS Lap Timer, and ATC steering wheel…
From this angle you can see the Mugen hood and how the openings at each end of the INGS front has been blocked-off to direct airflow to the radiator…
I walked by this DC5 throughout the day but never actually got to see it on the ground and on the track. I wonder what was wrong with it or what issues they ran into that preventing them from going out regularly…
The Wacky Mate BNR32 Skyline GT-R has seen some extensive development since it first appeared in Super Street magazine about four years ago. Back then it already had a 900HP HKS Stage 2 RB26DETT in it but now it has rear over fenders, modified front fenders, and a custom front bumper/splitter combo…
The Minamoto Co. JZZ30 Soarer and its full carbon fiber body…
Inside the engine bay is a built 2JZ-GTE utilizing a V-mounted intercooler set-up made possible via a custom core support…
The exhaust dumps right out through the driver’s side custom carbon front fender…
We don’t see that many grip S-chassis builds in North America but there were some good ones at Attack Tsukuba including this two-toned Zenki S14…
Interesting to see bolt-on over fenders on the rear of this R32 Skyline…
NOPRO (Nogami Project) NC MX-5 running their own aero components and Volk TE37Ultra. I got to look under the hood some time later and if I remember correctly, it was running a Rotrex supercharger…
The Technical Auto One’s/T-One’s FD RX-7, owned and built by the late great Kazuyuki Takahashi, was brought out to the Attack Tsukuba event for display in honor of Takahashi, who was long regarded as one of the key players in pushing the envelope when it came to Rotary engine tuning and development in Japan…
When you can get an opportunity to get a shot of the ASM S2000 and Nobuteru Taniguchi together, you better make it a good one…
Team ESCORT CT9A resting in the pit area at Tsukuba…
From what I read in one of Sean Lucas’ editorials on NDF, the family of the late Takahashi plans to keep his FD intact and unchanged, stored away until his son is old enough to drive the car in the future…
Odd sticker placement, but the meaning never changes…
No Good Racing boss Ryuji and the owner of the ‘Captain America’ EK from Tokyo-side, Daichi…
PZTuning/Vibrant Performance Civic coupe, the current record-holder for fastest FF lap at Tsukuba Circuit, as well as at Road Atlanta and Buttonwillow Raceway…
Full Stage FD looking quite menacing as it rolled back into the pits…
The JDMYARD Civic representing Ton from ASLAN/Temple Racing as the guys from ASLAN were so kind and helpful throughout the weekend…
People will cry in the comments about using jackstands and general safety practices but this DC5 is so damn light that if it fell down you can probably just have a buddy come and help you pick it up…haha…
The Orangeball Integra Type R on its way back after one of the afternoon sessions, using a pair of SSR Type-F wheels in the back and TWS wheels up front…
“Imagination come true” would definitely be an appropriate statement for my trip to Tsukuba…
Horiton, owner of the ASLAN EG, observing the grid in his Temple Racing coat…
Yoshitaka Ishii’s S2000 built with the help of S2000-specialists Arvou running a 2.4L TODA Racing stroker kit and Sports Injection ITBs…
The aero combination consists of Voltex front, J’s Racing front wide fenders, INGS+1 rear bumper, what looks to be a K1 Lab rear wing, and rare over-fenders from Car Garage Amis…
Despite the aero being from so many different tuning shops, the car looks pretty fantastic. With a 2.4L stroker set-up, it’s probably right up there in lap times with the Fura S2000, I’d venture to guess…
During the mid-afternoon, a gathering of FDs lined-up on the grid for a few hot laps…
Didn’t get a long enough look to see what this FD was all about but it looked great with gold Volk CEs on it. Aero doesn’t look to be one set brand and a mix of different components…
The yellow “Initial D” FD wearing RE Amemiya aero and SSR Type-C…
This yellow FD RX-7 on TWS forged wheels is wearing newly-released Panspeed aero and a chassis-mounted Voltex wing…
Supercharged Toyota 2ZZ-powered Lotus Exige wearing Outer Plus aero components from Garage Shimaya…
Canadian Will Au-Yeung chatting it up with the Casmiri brothers from Australia…
Capping off Part 3 with this shot of the ever helpful Yasu Shimomukai from Exceed JP cooling down the JDMYARD/Hardrace EG Civic…
I just looked and there are still a ton of photos from this event coming. Hopefully you guys are enjoying it because there really isn’t anything going on lately anyway being that this is downtime for us here in North America. I think our next event is Formula D Long Beach. In the meantime in-between time, let us continue to study the many great time attack builds of Attack Tsukuba. Thanks for looking and stay tuned for more!!…
Let’s take a moment to appreciate how awesome Ton’s jacket is.. That being said, Joey you’ve been doing great work, for what seems like forever, but your Attack coverage has to be in my eyes, your best work to date. Here’s hoping you return to Attack next year.
pics are amazing as usual , great stuff. hope to see a book printed again ,didnt get chance to buy one so i’ll waiting patiently as u garter content
Yoshitaka Ishii’s S2000 looks amazing. That green really suits it well.
