Meguiar’s “Portrait of an Icon” 2010s-Era Shoot…

For the fourth installment of the Meguiar’s “Portrait of an Icon” series, we head into “The High-Tech 2010s”. This one was a difficult one for me because I wasn’t able to tap into my ‘nostalgia’ bag since the 2010s were just a few years ago.

I had to consider what were the big trends of that time, be it pop-culture or automotive, and 3 things immediately stood-out to me; bolt-on widebody kits, digital streaming services, and well, not to toot my own horn but—The Chronicles. I thrived in the 2010s and I don’t think many would argue that my work was very pivotal to the growth of Japanese tuning culture during that time.

So what I thought I’d do this time around was take you all to an alternate universe. In that timeline, we’d have been given the opportunity to create a series for Netflix similar to the format of an incredibly popular series known as ‘Top Gear’. The show would center around Sara Choi, Kristian Wong, and myself where we’d test drive fellow enthusiasts’ builds, both garage and shop-built. We’d give honest reviews about them, discuss them, and also have fun adventures in modified vehicles. Sara is the face of the show since she is good on camera and can drive/drift, Kristian brings a wealth of tuning knowledge and automotive experience/skill, and I’m there just to make lame jokes/look handsome lol

The show would be presented by Meguiar’s and would essentially be our own take on what Top Gear was doing but with modified cars.

We’d call it “Style and Speed” cuz there’s no point in going fast if you don’t look good doing it and the tag line for the series would be “Why Can’t You Have Both?”

THIS IS NOT A REAL SHOW.

If anything it’s just a proof of concept.

I created various title and homepage screens, scrolling screensavers that Netflix uses, a faux episode guide, and even promo posters. Noel Barnum’s Varis FR-S was the perfect hero car cuz it represents everything great about the 2010s and the Battlecraft EK served as the race car counterpart. In that timeline, Kristian’s car works lol.

Imagine the confusion of a futuristic new fan of The Chronicles stumbling upon these pics without knowing it wasn’t a real series.

Can’t wait for the next installment! 😛
