Just wanted to start things off today by saying a huge “thank you” to those of you who continued to support The Chronicles by watching the YouTube videos and grabbing merchandise from the store. It has been super busy lately here but in an incredibly positive way with so many orders to pack and ship daily. The last two drops have been super successful and I’m glad that The Chronicles continues to grow heading into our 15th year. Yes, FIFTEEN YEARS. How crazy is that? I wasn’t even sure this thing would last two years when I first started it and look where we are at now. I still feel like I’m steadily improving in every thing I do here and I’m so very honored that many of you see that. I can’t always say it has been easy but through all the hard work and sacrifice, I have no regrets…
Now that all the merch has gone out, I can finally sit down and put up some photos that I’ve been collecting over the course of the last two months. I’ve been wanting to post-up more photos on this site instead of just on Instagram but it’s just been so busy that I’ve honestly had no energy to get to it. I shoot a lot of video now because my focus is heavily placed on making the vlogs better and better but it hasn’t stopped me from shooting photos. Photography is one of my favorite hobbies and being able to tell a good story through that medium is something I’m constantly trying to get better at. Lately I’ve just been trying to take my skills as a photographer and trying to translate that to video. The framing aspects and color grading are all derived from my photography side. I think that making both the best they can be ultimately will help add to the storytelling element that has made The Chronicles so successful over the years…
Today I have a small batch of photos from the recent Stay Classick Sleighride event. This toy-drive/car meet has been a product of my friend Barry Ancheta’s hard work over the past decade so I wanted to make sure I set time aside to show my support. Giving back during the holidays is important and it is nice to see so many show up to his event to drop-off toys. The car meet is just a byproduct of a good cause and also a nice way to get car enthusiasts together before the year ends. The event is held at the K1 Speed carting facility in Anaheim, California and the lot isn’t super large so it gets packed pretty quickly. Some nice Honda builds show-up every year so I made sure to remember my camera gear. You never know what you’ll come across at a meet out here in Southern California and though there are many, MANY events happening weekly, you’ll always see something new. Der and I showed-up around the start of the meet at 11 AM and stayed for a couple of hours. We walked around, chatted with fellow enthusiasts and had a chill time before heading back to the shop. I made a Vlog episode featuring this event as well if you want to see some of the cars below in even more detail. I’ll attach it at the end of this post. Enjoy! I still have photos from Wekfest Florida that I forgot to post-up last month that I’ll probably try to later this week…
Hung’s Spoon Sports-themed Civic hatchback build in a traditional white/black motif. The only piece he is missing from the theme is a carbon fiber Spoon Sports front lip which he opted instead to run a First Molding Flugel Plate…
The engine bay has been minimalized and hosts either classic Spoon Sports products or factory OEM Honda. The only identifiable components on this B18C5 swap that aren’t of the two are a full-sized Koyo radiator and a 2000s-era AEM fuel rail…
No OEM CTR rear lip on this Civic, just factory mud guards, a Spoon rear wing, and Spoon Sports N1 muffler…
Inside, the OEM interior panels and carpet have all been removed and in its place are a pair of newer Spoon Sports bucket seats with embroidered log, a pair of Schroth safety harnesses, and a paint-matched roll bar…
Hung’s Civic has gone through the steps to be converted to 5×114 with Spoon Sports brakes added up front to pair with his new Spoon Sports SW388 wheels…
Seeing super simple, well-executed, builds like this always make me think I want to put a Civic together myself, but then I remember he had to drive through the pouring rain with no interior which probably wasn’t much fun, haha. Thankfully it only rains in Southern California like 5 times a year…
Glenn Odvina’s JDM ITR face-swapped Integra resprayed in red rocking a First Molding front lip, Mode Parfume sideskirts, Mode rear spats, what looks to be a J’s Racing vented hood, and Volk Racing CE28 wheels…
The engine bay also looks like it has been resprayed, now housing a K-series engine with an OEM RBC intake manifold, full-size aluminum radiator, and a collection of Hybrid Racing components…
Jonathan Monteith’s AP2 S2000 continues to impress as he steadily evolves his build over time. The entire car has been repainted to Porsche’s “Grey Black” tone wearing a Voltex front, Voltex sides, Voltex Type 7.5 swan-neck wing, ASM hood, ASM I.S. rear bumper, Magical Racing mirrors, and Volk TE37 wheels…
The F22 engine has upgraded valvetrain, a J’s Racing 70RR exhaust, and he recently added a Paxton supercharger set-up. Before installing it all, he had the second-hand blower cleaned-up and sought-out some beautifully-crafted titanium plumbing to give the engine bay that extra pop and detail…
The supercharger unit itself is a Paxton Novi 1200 which features computer-designed gears internally. Here you can get a closer-look at the custom titanium work as well as a glimpse of his super-rare ASM front strut bar…
Here’s a look at the ASM I.S. Design rear bumper with its many vents mated with a carbon fiber Voltex rear diffuser…
Speaking of superchargers, one of the builds that really caught my eye at the Stay Classick event was Royer’s Honda Civic which recently went through a bit of a makeover. It seems like his build has been everywhere this year, appearing on the Hoonigan YouTube channel and all, but it hasn’t stopped him from making changes. New to the build is a Mode Parfume front bumper, Mode Parfume carbon fiber sideskirts, Mode Parfume carbon mirrors, and Mode rear wing which is also made of carbon fiber composite. The really good stuff is under the hood though and it offers a set-up we don’t see very often…
If you’ve been following The Chronicles over the years, you’ve probably seen over a thousand different types of B and K-series set-up—but, you’ve probably only seen a Vortech-supercharged B a handful of times. I can’t even recall the last time I saw another one. It’s an older set-up and most are likely to go the turbocharged route or run individual throttle bodies, but it is always cool to see a Vortech unit inside the engine bay of a 90s-era Civic…
The supercharger, or what some call a “turbo on a stick” is paired with a period-correct Edelbrock Victor X intake manifold and AEM fuel set-up. The factory valve cover has been replaced with an eye-catching billet aluminum cover with a set of rarely seen Accel coil packs. In the nooks and crannies of the bay is a custom oil breather set-up from HL Customs…
Up top you’ll notice a custom R Fab front strut brace and even the G-Plus half-sized radiator has seen some custom fabrication to cover the plumbing to -AN fittings. The Vortech unit shows its age with some obvious wear and tear but overall, the whole engine bay just looks really stout with the supercharger taking up so much space. It is one of those bays that you can’t help but look at because it’s not something you’d come across typically…
With the hood closed, you probably wouldn’t think anything of this Civic until you hear the whining and surge from the centrifugal blower. Excellent work…
Royce Riel’s K20-powered Civic hatchback on a set of GroupB Unlimited NC-01 wheels in silver, complimented with a J’s Racing front lip, J’s vented hood, J’s Racing GT wing, Magical Racing carbon mirrors, and Chargespeed vented front wide fenders…
Royce’s K20A2 set-up is nice and simple. The bay features some custom brake lines running from the firewall to the brake booster, all unnecessary studs on the firewall have been eliminated, and the bay completely resprayed….
Behind the spokes of the GroupB wheels up front are a pair of Porsche 986 Boxster brakes paired with Mini Cooper rotors…
Freddy Martinez’s Wonder Civic looking period-perfect on Racing Service Watanabe wheels, a Doobie front lip, and OsakaJDM rear spoiler…
Love that he added the Option2 decal to give it that subtle period detail touch…
The Watanabe wheels also have the matching center caps that look like they’re brand new…
The dual-angled tips can only mean one thing if you’re a Wonder Civic aficionado. That means there is a rare Mugen exhaust lurking underneath and you can’t miss it once you see the classic logo right in the center of the muffler…
Parked alongside Freddy at the meet was Marco Sandoval’s 1989 Civic sedan also sitting on RS Watanabe wheels…
Wedged in-between the two Revstar Garage Civics was Tony’s EF8-converted CR-X on DAMD Lover Soul wheels with black faces…
Wrapping this one up before the holidays with a photo of the Battlecraft x Exceed Toyota GR86 which was my ride to the meet. The event was a huge success and there was an unbelievable amount of toys donated that morning. I’m glad everyone is in the giving spirit and so supportive of Barry’s event. Thanks for looking everyone!!…
In case you missed it, here’s the Vlog episode featuring this event…
Happy Holidays!!
