Wekfest San Jose 2019 Coverage… Part 2…

Oh, hello there. You must be looking for Part 2 of the Wekfest San Jose coverage. This is it. I got back from Seattle last night after a fantastic weekend with the boys, experiencing yet another amazing Wekfest event in the Pacific Northwest. Man, that show…it’s got some good shit. Just the vibe and energy of the people is incredible. I really hope you guys find the opportunity to experience it for yourselves if you can. You won’t regret it…

With that said, we can dive right into the Wekfest San Jose coverage today. All the photos from this set have been finished since the end of last week, I just haven’t been able to post them up because I’ve been out of town. If it were up to me and I didn’t need to sleep or be a human being, I’d have had these photos posted ages ago. But, alas, I am human and here we are, some two weeks after the event took place…

This year’s San Jose event, like the previous ones, have been a lot of work. And I mean, A LOT of work. I really commend the boys for getting all this stuff done before the show even took place, whether it be building the entire Wekfest display out of wood, folding and packing over 200 boxes the night before roll-in to have gifts for VIP guests, or simply staging the vehicles so that all 400+ cars fit inside the San Jose Convention Center. This requires a full cast and crew of people normally for most car shows but we did it all with a group of under 15 people. That not only speaks to the chemistry this group has, but also their willingness to work hard and see things through. Just imagine that. A small group of guys with regular jobs, relationships, some even with families, all who are dedicated car guys by the way, put this entire show together. And it all went off with little to no issues. I’m very much on the media-side so I don’t necessarily deal with all the logistics of the event but I get to see it from fruition to execution and I continue to be amazed by these guys when I finally get a chance to sit back to evaluate everything. There’s no departments of teams of people doing any one individual task. Everybody just sort of works together like a well oiled machine. It took ten years to get to this point so it didn’t happen over night, but I couldn’t be more pleased with how far we have all come…

We were at one of the guy’s parents’ house that Friday before the show, all of us crammed together in the living room building boxes and packing them for giveaways while there was also a full blown dinner being cooked in the kitchen. I think it was at this point when I really just stopped to think that this whole experience was pretty amazing. We’re just friends putting together one of the nation’s best car shows and we’re doing it all by ourselves. We’re sitting in the living room folding hundreds of boxes while talking shit to one another and having a good time. Some of our wives and girlfriends are even there helping and they aren’t even complaining about it. We aren’t at the club getting fucked-up, we ain’t trying to grind-up on the models that we hired, and we didn’t hire a bunch of kids to do what most would consider to be menial tasks. From top-to-bottom, it’s just us…

And I wouldn’t have it any other way…

Cheers guys, we did it.

Enjoy Part 2. Much more to come throughout the week and then we jump right into the Wekfest Seattle coverage….

While the long line of show cars were rolling into the San Jose Convention Center, I glanced across the street and spotted this mint DC2 Integra Type R just sitting there completely undisturbed…

Hopefully the owner didn’t leave it there over night…

I actually wrote the story for this NSX a few years back for Super Street magazine so it was cool to finally see this build in person and chat with its owner, Jeff Nguyen from Las Vegas…

I love how the C-pillar/rear shoulder of the Japanese Datsun Bluebird SSS coupes look, considering how much more sleek it is than the U.S. counterpart. These cars look so good just lowered with a front lip and a nice set of wheels…

This 1JZ-GTE swapped RA Celica coupe has become a regular at the San Jose Wekfest events. It’s definitely one of the more ‘stand-out’ vehicles competing at the show and certainly one-of-a-kind…

Beefy rear slicks tucked tightly under the tubbed rear of the RA21 Celica, which was much quieter than I thought it would be considering how it housed a built 1JZ-swap. It was so quiet that the owner could probably drive this thing around on the street and not get hassled, that is, until a cop pulls up behind it and notices its rear slicks…
