Photos and Words by Joey Lee (@Stickydiljoe)
I know it is Wednesday now (by the time you see this, it’ll probably by Thursday) but there has been an insane amount of shit going on at the shop lately. There are a million orders from the storefront that went out this week, ALL of the Volume 2 books just arrived on Tuesday so I’ve been busy getting those ready for shipment, Yasu is back from Japan once again, and in a few hours, we have a flight to catch to New York City! Wekfest East is happening this weekend so I’ll be pretty busy covering that and thinking of more things to write, lol, and I’m sure there will be plenty to read! Trust me. Things are very different on the other side of the country and I’ll touch on that after it happens, but I’ll keep it super brief today as it is dinner time and Yasu needs to be fed, and I need to maximize the rest of my time at the shop finishing-up a bunch of other shit before I leave. I also have to find some time to do laundry and pack somewhere in there too. Parts 1 and 2 will have provided you a ton to read already. If you haven’t read any of it, please do, because its an important read. With that said, those of you who will be out there at Wekfest in New Jersey, feel free to say what’s up! I’ll see you guys out there. For the rest of you, please stay tuned for more content! The storefront will be updated very soon as well with some new stuff and re-up of stuff that sold out recently that you may want. Thanks for the support everybody!! Enjoy the rest of the photos from Wekfest LA!!…
If there was a set-up at this year’s Wekfest LA event that was representative of the ‘golden era’ of the West Coast car scene, it probably would have been this DB2 Integra GS-R with JDM 1-piece headlights, a JDP front lip, and a set of Takechi Project Racing Hart Type-C Tracer wheels…
Rare to see a set complete Tracers and this clean these days…
Anthony Keuth’s Integra is another that maintains that ’90s spirit with his Integra with OEM optional front lip and 16-inch Mugen M7 wheels…
A leap forward back into 2019 and not too far away from the Integras was this new Liberty Walk Silhouette Works GT Ferrari 458 built by LTMW…
Joe Rawket’s VeilSide Fortune Model Mazda RX-7 sitting on custom-built BBS E88 wheels to fit under the ultra-wide FD…
Big Steve’s Mode Parfume Lexus LS400 on SSR TF1 wheels will be going on a bit of a hiatus I hear after Wekfest. It’s always nice to see this car out and about. We always joke around that our cars can never be out at the same time so now that he’s car is going back into the garage, maybe it’s time for me to take mine out…
Beautiful Kenmeri Skyline parked right up against the backside of the Wekfest booth…
One of the coolest cars in the building that weekend was the Button Built Ferrari 328 GTS bagged, sitting on Brixton Forged BB01 wheels…
Fat Ferrari horn button on the MOMO steering wheel of the 328 GTS…
Matt’s fully restored and modified 1982 Datsun 510 coupe on display at the Rays booth sitting on their bronze Volk TE37V wheels…
Brian’s Varis Kamikaze Toyota 86 is one of Southern California’s more notable builds in the last year or so, making the rounds at every major automotive event in this area, representing the famed JADE Motorsports car club…
Jeff Nguyen’s Acura NSX from Las Vegas has also been in Southern California quiet a bit lately…
One of the highlights of his NSX build are the individual throttle bodies with custom titanium velocity stacks…
The Battlecraft Civic hatchback was all set-up at the VTEC Club USA booth which was pretty much just a bunch of Nobori flags and a table…
Love what Kristian did with the cut-outs on his C-West rear bumper…
One of the best Honda builds inside the LA Convention Center for Wekfest was the Slaughter Boys Civic hatchback…
Inside the engine bay which has been shaved smooth and repainted is a built K20/K24 engine featuring a tucked radiator and custom throttle cable ran through a steel line…
A close-up of the Drag Cartel individual throttle bodies. Here you can see the custom throttle cable as well as the water filler neck which also utilizes custom-bent steel lines…
Solid build throughout. Glad to see it completed and its cool to see that this car has also seen some track time at Buttonwillow…
Super clean set-up with the BackYard Special front with the individual throttle bodies poking out…
If there was a build at Wekfest LA which you could consider to be the ‘most interesting’, it would certainly be this Mazda B2600i pick-up truck built on a custom frame with a rotary engine swap. I first saw this build at SEMA a couple years ago and was surprised to see it pop-up again at WFLA…
Inside the custom engine bay where you can see the exposed wheel/tire and front suspension set-up is a mild street-ported 13B Rotary engine…
Comp Turbo with a dump and wastegate tubes exiting the topside of the 13B…
Custom FC3S RX-7 right-hand drive dashboard with a KEY!S steering wheel and Recaro sets. The custom frame runs into the cabin as you can see from this angle and how the shifter is attached to it…
It’s hard to see the wheels but I really like that he kept it very traditional, running a set of Advan Racing SA3R wheels…
Looking at the truck bed, you can see the custom-built frame here with independent rear suspension, along with the fuel tank, air tank, and lines for the air suspension system. If you’re looking for the bags, it’s tucked near the underside of the cabin…
Such a cool build with a ton of custom fabrication work that really should be seen in person to really be appreciated…
Nicky Higgins exiting the building after the show ended in his Civic hatchback that debuted just a month before…
A couple of NSX guys got together for a photo as I walked by so I snapped my own…
Jeremy wanted to get a photo of his Prelude next to Mike G’s ‘Tank’…
Yasu chillin’, waiting for the building to clear-out after we cleaned-up both the VTEC Club USA booth as well as The Chronicles display…
One more glimpse of Wilder’s B2600 truck…
This bagged 86 looked to be wearing a mix of both Rocket Bunny Version 1 & 2 aero sans rear wing…
Post-show activities usually make for pretty cool photo opportunities once most of the cars start clearing-out and these DA/DB2 owners took full advantage of that…
The VeilSide Fortune RX-7 remained while we were tearing down the Wekfest booth and chatting with friends…
Marc’s Super Trofeo Lamborghini Huracan and the Button Built 328 GTS got together for some video and photos…
David’s Mode Parfume LS430 wasn’t a part of the Wekfest show this year but he managed to sneak it in for a photo with the Wekfest booth before it was destroyed…
And with just two more shows left on the calendar this year, we decided to get our own group photo of the people that make the Wekfest machine work. Everybody has a specific role but it all works seamlessly when we come together as a group…
And that’s that for Wekfest Los Angeles 2019. Hope you guys enjoyed all of the words. Off to New York now, see you all when I return!!…
Appreciate the coverage, keep writing and I will keep reading. Arohanui from New Zealand.
